For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information by following the link at the very bottom of the page

Not only is it Friday, it is half-term, thank god for that.

No breakfast yet but a friend is coming after school for blueberry and banana buckwheat pancakes that I haven't made yet as the packet in the cupboard morphed into a box of felafel overnight. I hate it when that happens.

wheelybug · 08/02/2008 09:10

No half term here yet (So we get that rubbish split thing with easter weekend and then 9 days later the easter hols )

Manage to add some olives, carrot batons, tomatoes and hummus to my list yesterday at book group. Oh and some apple and rhubarb juice which was surprisingly nice.

Only raisins so far this morning. Then we're off for a long weekend with friends of much wine drinking and bacon sandwich eating so will probably fail miserably on F&V intake this weekend.

TigerFeet · 08/02/2008 09:30

Half term doesn't figure here yet - will do from September though. They do that split Easter thing here too.

I have left my lunch at home again today so I am left scavenging whatever I can find in my desk. So that's porridge for breakfast and lunch, and again for tea as I am going out straight from work for a colleague's birthday drinks thing. First time I've been out without dh and/or dd for almost a year (wonders if dancing on the tables will be involved) but I'm not drinking though so shouldn't get too raucous.

I may have to nip to the shops for different food later [sigh]

Aviatrix - not sure I've said where I am but I am south west london ish - between Wimbledon and Kingston - so in no man's land where people look down their noses at us for not being London proper from one direction and not being Surrey proper in the other. What's a gal to do ?

TigerFeet · 08/02/2008 10:05

Bloody hell Aviatrix what on earth happened??? How come you think you were sacked???

ZippiBabes · 08/02/2008 10:07

avi that's crap!

Can you get a free half hour with an employment lawyer? I did that when I had a grievance with an employer - sadly I was advised that I didn't have a case but at least it didn't cost me anything to find that out.

wheelybug · 08/02/2008 11:41

Avi - MOst lawyers (esp. employment) I think will give you a free consultation before you go ahead. Hope you get it sorted !

Wish I'd said I'd come from Honolulu now - surburbia doesn't quite sound so exotic !

lullabyloo · 08/02/2008 11:58

oh avi
I'm sorry

pear,blueberries,raspberries
running to get ds in a mo....spinach soup, beetroot, cucumber, tomato, pea, pepper, avocado salad with pittas & houmus for lunch & then speeding off to the cinema where there will be an ice cream & popcorn fest I suspect.
Ds & I need cheering up

Greensleeves · 08/02/2008 12:02

Avi that's awful, how dare they treat you like that

yes Frannster, tis me...have been rather preoccupied this week with ds1's burgeoning issues (threads passim)

I am planning a raw f&v fest for lunch with ds2...to make up for the takeaway we will doubtless be eating this evening [too dispirited and generally shellshocked to cook emoticon]

lullabyloo · 08/02/2008 12:31

what's up Greeny?

Greensleeves · 08/02/2008 12:39

this

but I am overreacting

Why do I just not fancy fruit and veg when I am below par? I WILL eat apples and carrots and cucumbers for lunch...but in my mind I will be tucking into cheese and potato pie, with shortcrust pastry, and beans, and ketchup, and too much salt [drift]

We get letters like that in our local paper and it is infuriating but takes so much energy to reply sometimes.

I wrote a very long one once in response to someone moaning about the blankets left by the homeless in the graveyard, making the place look untidy, there should be ways of making sure they don't get in to sleep there apparently.

So, I got angry, spent ages writing it, waited to see if they printed it, then waited to see if the person responded. When they didn't, I wondered if they'd read it, whether they cared etc. Is it worth expending the energy sometimes but then there's the guilt of apathy and so on. So, I mostly don't read the local paper.

MissCreant · 08/02/2008 13:35

and yum to cheese and potato pie, I haven't had that in years. Eat it, I say, with brown sauce.

ZippiBabes · 08/02/2008 13:46

i am going shortly have spent the whole morning deciding what to put in my very small cheap barbie suitcase

slight horror maybe his flatmates will be there...how scary

lullabyloo · 08/02/2008 17:01

Greeny you are not overreacting whatsoever.
Cheese & potato pie seems like an excellent idea...raw veg just wont fill the need really...

Mrs C...I used to live in Bournemouth until my late teensThe council rubbed it's sweaty little hands in glee when they came up with the ingenious solution of putting an arm in the middle of the park benches so noone could sleep on them

filthymindedvixen · 08/02/2008 18:06

HAS ANYONE GOT A NICE EASY RECIPE FOR CHEESE AND POTATO PIE? i WANT ONE!
