For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information by following the link at the very bottom of the page

Quattrocento · 04/02/2008 19:35

fullmoonfiend · 04/02/2008 19:37

thank you Yoda!

fruity we are, a bit now and then.

OverRated · 04/02/2008 19:55

Ouch, MissC. I know how painful biting is. I bled once from it and bloody milk seemed to be enough to stop DS doing it again. That and the ear-piercing squeal I made.

No F&V here today

pinkspottywellies · 04/02/2008 20:16

Ooh MrsC your poor breasts just don't have an easy time of it do they

Boco hope you're curled up with a hot water bottle and some chocolate. Do you need some crying chocolate? I could send you mine now I know where to get it

How's the bump coming along Franny? Have you passed the 'well she might just be fat' stage!!??

DD sat at the table and screamed for 5 mins today before she ate her lunch and tea She was quite happy before and went on to eat ok so no idea what that was about! I think she might have some more molars coming. We were up at 5:30 this morning too [tired]

Today I ate a pear, dried apricots, apple juice, leek and potato soup, dairy milk, sprouts, carrots, peas, soya beans. dd ate the parsnip (it was leftovers so only one piece left!)

pinkspottywellies · 04/02/2008 20:17

OR they say you shouldn't yell when they bite you I couldn't help it! But she only bit me about 3 times and not too hard!

wheelybug · 04/02/2008 20:22

Hi All ,.....Blimey it moves fast around here (and such foul language ).

Have so far today managed:

raisins

2 big bowls of fruit salad containing:
bluberries
raspberries
satsumas
grapes
mango

salad of:
leaves
tomatoes
avocado
cucumber
sweetcorn

Dinner is yet to be had but will either be a pasta with bacon and brocolli or a jambalaya with red peppers green peppers, tinned toms and spring onions.

Does Hummous count ? if so I had that too (well I had it anyway but might not need a mention !).

OverRated · 04/02/2008 20:26

I know, PSW, I read that too. But it was in a book written by a man so I assume he has never had a toddler sink their teeth into his nipples so hard that it draws blood. Tis rather hard to smile sweetly and say, "Please stop biting Mummy, there's a dear."

The pulling them toward you thing does work though.

OverRated · 04/02/2008 20:27

I count hummus. I bet Franny doesn't but I'm not as hardcore as she is

littlerach · 04/02/2008 20:42

I count hunous too.

Especialyy the one with lemn and coriander in.

I am a bit excited as our local supermarket ha sstarted doing veg boxes and most of th ocntents are local, like Bath area. And they are 38 for a small whcih is actually quite big.
I have ti=old them that they need to advertise them as they a egood.

Humous and sald pita, with tomatoes and cucmber.
Banaanan
Apple
OJ
pineapple juice
No dinner tomight
Nevermind.

Poor dd2 is abit poorly. She ha shad a temp for almost a fornght, and a hacking cough. I finally took her ot the doctots today, and she has oral thrush, and may have had tonsilitis and they a etersting her for a urine infection.

Boco, I do hope you get some rest, and take time ot relax. And eat chocolates.

Franny, what is your due date? My sister has anounced she is pg and due July.
there are lots of it around!

FrannyandZooey · 04/02/2008 20:46

I do so too count hummus
I am about as far from hardcore as it is possible to be atm
I think i must be softcore. Erm well perhaps not

PSW in the right top I am extravagantly pregnant looking - it is nearly all cake but I put 99% of weight on my stomach so it looks like I am about 6 months gone. Someone I hadn't seen since before Christmas, who didn't know I was pg, saw me and went "wahoo look at that!" so I think I am hopefully past the fat bit.

LOL @ 'yoda'. Everyone seems very funny this week

I had more green salad and a quiche, potato salad and pasta salad for dinner. Bloody nice but not many portions in it. I really felt more energetic at last today and spent it mostly doing things and now feel sledgehammered again. Think I may be getting a cold. Early night either way.

Oooh oooh dp and I are going out tomorrow night! We have tickets and everything so we can't back out, plus Vegan Friend TM is babysitting. The show does not start until 8.30 pm, I mean EIGHT THIRTY PM that is cup of horlicks and slippers time

Littlerach it is July 4th. I was emailing my boss for Saturday job today, trying to convince him even though I am hoping to come back to work later in the year, that I will NOT be back for the beginning of September as he was hoping. I pointed out amongst other things, that I hope to be breastfeeding and I need to let that settle down first etc. There was this sort of shocked silence by email and then a small quiet reply came back "you know, I don't think it had actually sunk in for me, that after you had finished being pregnant, that you would in fact have a baby to look after and that it might get in the way of work...." LOL bless him

anorak · 04/02/2008 20:51

I expect people have asked you this Franny but do you have any cravings?

I have a bunch of beetroot leaves in my fridge to cook tonight - another new local veg to try.

TigerFeet · 04/02/2008 20:52

I would count houmous, definitely. The Lemon & Coriander one is lush, we make a chilli one at work which is pretty good too. I never liked it until I started this job, I have developed a taste for it now

I am eating toast atm. Didn't think I was hungry until dh made some and I just can't resist the smell of fresh toast

[pops off to kitchen for more toast. maybe with marmalade]

FrannyandZooey · 04/02/2008 20:53

when I was feeling crap in the mornings I only wanted potatoes and cheese
the cheese thing has not gone away
I also fancy crisps which is odd as I always used to enjoy them until going completely off them while pg with ds
I like orange juice and satsumas, eggs, bread products, butter and cheese mainly

OP posts:
anorak · 04/02/2008 20:59

You need to go to your mum's

I remember your posting about the large quantities of cheese she serves up for you.

wheelybug · 04/02/2008 21:00

ooh hoorah for Hummus !

OK So next question for you seasoned F&V people - Does mango work well as a base for a smoothie ? I am allergic to bananas but fancy having a go at making smoothies. Even better, waitrose (did F&Z notice?) do frozen mango so could always have some in freezer Just In Case. What d'ya reckon ?

MissCreant · 04/02/2008 21:00

It has never occurred to me to count houmous in my portions. I shall do so henceforth.

pinkspottywellies · 04/02/2008 21:01

Francis, you watch yourself young lady. Out after 8.30pm. You'll turn into a pumpkin! at boss's penny dropping about the actual baby!!

FrayedKnot · 04/02/2008 21:01

Boco hope you are feeling a bit better tonight..

Avi, no I haven;t - we are very limited on house / furniture / furnishings retailers round here and therefore on choice. I found a stockist of Crucial Trading etc which I think might be better than some, but it means a special trip as it's quite far away.

WE had our big stir fry and DS refused to eat any of it (unusual), and wasn;t bothered about having anything else. So he had nothing for tea. I took him up a seed bar to eat before bed but he wasn;t overly interested, although did eat it....this doesn;t augur well.

Tomorrow I am doing Part II of my gym induction and Yoga.

FrayedKnot · 04/02/2008 21:05

LOL at Franny's boss

Hummous...well, well, I didn;t ever really count it but I eat quite a lot. Oh good

FrannyandZooey · 04/02/2008 21:07

anorak YES she is a total cheese pusher and normally it just nauseates me to eat much of it

she came to visit and I was trying and failing to pretend nonchalantly that I could take or leave it

OP posts:
filthymindedvixen · 04/02/2008 21:31

please help. Please!

poetry, gah!

OverRated · 04/02/2008 23:47

Yes, yes, mangos work well as a base for smoothies - fresh or frozen will do. We have a bit of a problem with them on this thread though so don't boast if you get a good one I have 2 sitting on my counter but haven't dared try them yet.

Ooo, cheese...

FrannyandZooey · 05/02/2008 08:15

Melon, grapes, raisins, apple

"it's raining
it's pouring
the old man is snoring
he went to bed
and bumped his head
and couldn't get up in the morning

Did someone glue him in, Mummy?"
