Advice re really painful blister on foot WARNING.. GROSS PIC ATTACHED

This blister started on Tuesday due to new boots rubbing. I stupidly popped it on Wednesday morning and lots of puss came out. However, it's now come back with a vengeance. The picture shows half of it as the other half has a compeed plaster on which the pharmacist suggested I put on yesterday. However, it's so bloody painful I am struggling to walk and have to basically walk on the side of my foot on tip toe. I've got two big labs that need walking.

Can anyone suggest anything to speed up the healing process. Also, it's quite warm to the touch so I'm concerned it may be infected. (I had sepsis a few years ago so I'm a little anxious I suppose).

All advice gratefully received 😌

Never pop blisters. The blister is protecting the raw skin from infection. Soak it in warm (not hot) salty water which will increase blood flow. In terms of walking you can get special blister plasters which are extra cushioned to protect the area and reduce pain. If pain gets worse, it throbs, feels hot, gets really red or oozes pus you probably need an antibiotic.

Compeed is your friend. I had this last weekend in Rome doing 30k steps a day. I ended up using compeed blister plasters and new trainers. I will never go away without compeed every again

Hope it gets better soon! I have a habit of wearing impractical shoes so I’ve had loads of them over the years. I did an experiment once where I popped one on one foot but not the one on the other and the un popped blister healed much quicker and left no mark behind so it really is true lol

caringcarer · 18/12/2022 17:08

I second Compared blister plasters..

Sunshinegirl82 · 18/12/2022 17:24

I'd soak it in hot salty water lots tonight and see how it is in the morning.

When you say pus came out do you mean the clear blister fluid or proper greenish pus?

Sunshineandrainbow · 18/12/2022 17:27

Tesco blister Plasters are really good

Sorry, not puss, it was just clear fluid. Thanks for your reply x

That's useful to know. Lesson learnt the hard way. I'm so annoyed at myself as I was hoping to wear heels on Friday night, but I have enough difficulty walking in trainers 😭

Thanks for all the advice. I've been soaking my foot in warm salty water, but it's still very painful. I attach another picture. Am I being paranoid or does it look worse? I've had to take codeine and ibuprofen for the pain 😭

Ouch! Do you have any soled slippers you can walk the dogs in? I would be either getting someone else to walk them or totally giving the walks a miss.

I had a blood blister on the sole of my foot this year. I put a compeed on and it harden up pretty fast on its own

TheLovleyChebbyMcGee · 18/12/2022 22:34

Get compeed blister plasters, they are great. It doesn't look infected, just inflamed and sore. Paracecetamol or ibuprofen may help too

olympicsrock · 18/12/2022 22:37

Eek that looks sore - try and do as little walking as possible.
perhaps buy some double layer walking/ trainer socks that slide over each other to minimise the friction on your foot while it recovers. Can get from Amazon.

MyKitchenRules · 19/12/2022 00:12

Might sound crazy but get some surgical spirit from a pharmacy. It will clean and disinfect the area and also harden the skin to prevent further blisters. Its used for many things such as dancers feet that use pointe shoes. Also bed sores etc.

Ihateboris · 19/12/2022 16:45

It's me again!! I know the general consensus is NOT to pop the blister, but it's got even bigger throughout the day and it's bloody painful. I've attached a picture just taken. What are your thoughts?

OP posts:
Ihateboris · 19/12/2022 16:45

Ps... Compeed aren't large enough!

I'd be calling tomorrow asking a nurse at the GP surgery to have a look as it's got worse and has that darker ring round it.
If you're diabetic, I'd call the surgery/111 today.

October2020 · 19/12/2022 17:06

I'd pop it. I know you're not supposed to but I always do when they get really bad. Keep it clean and covered.

Chaiandchocolate · 19/12/2022 17:11

That’s starting to look a bit nasty - I’d go and ask at a pharmacy today to see whether they think it’s infected

WeeOrcadian · 19/12/2022 17:21

Please don't pop it, as tempting as it is. Could you get to (no pun intended) walk-in?

mincepiepie · 19/12/2022 17:54

Call the surgery now and ask if you can send picture to get advice over the phone. It looks awful.

I would have popped it as well OP.

Rainydaize · 19/12/2022 18:40

I always find its easier once popped with a compede on the top as you can put pressure on it.

Rainydaize · 19/12/2022 18:40

And I second getting pharmacy advice, or 111 online if you can add a photo

prettyb00by · 19/12/2022 18:46

Ouch. You might save some money by looking for hydrocolloid plasters/dressings rather than blister plasters. Same thing, generic name. As for infection, watch for redness around the blister and the 'new' skin looking a bit grim. Speedy healing - blisters suck.
