Advice re really painful blister on foot WARNING.. GROSS PIC ATTACHED

Ihateboris · 18/12/2022 16:21

This blister started on Tuesday due to new boots rubbing. I stupidly popped it on Wednesday morning and lots of puss came out. However, it's now come back with a vengeance. The picture shows half of it as the other half has a compeed plaster on which the pharmacist suggested I put on yesterday. However, it's so bloody painful I am struggling to walk and have to basically walk on the side of my foot on tip toe. I've got two big labs that need walking.

Can anyone suggest anything to speed up the healing process. Also, it's quite warm to the touch so I'm concerned it may be infected. (I had sepsis a few years ago so I'm a little anxious I suppose).

All advice gratefully received 😌

I was just about to reply that you need to go to a walk in centre or a&e, then saw you've been to a&e after it got much much worse!!

Hope the recovery is good x

NewNameForXmas · 20/12/2022 14:54

Ouch! Hope you recover soon. For future reference, 111 online has been brilliant for me recently. Fill in online, get a call back, send pic, script sent to local pharmacy - all within a couple of hours.

NewNameForXmas · 20/12/2022 14:55

(For before it got as bad as later pics)

PragmaticWench · 20/12/2022 14:56

Your update is worse than I could have imagined!! Very glad you were seen and treated. Sending you huge sympathy, I take it you won't be going out on Friday night now?!

Faint 😵 I had no idea blisters could get that bad. That looks bloody painful. Did they numb it?

No, they didn't numb it. I had to grit my teeth and bear it. 😭😭😭. I've had lots of blisters in the past as I'm a runner, but nothing as bad as this.

All plans postponed!!! I'm gutted. Should have been at a dinner dance on Thursday night, early drinks in Chester on Christmas Eve, and our local pub for Christmas lunch. Can't even have a drink due to the tramadol and antibiotics 😭. Merry Christmas to me.

Wtf! They didn't numb it?! Did they say why it had got so bad? Its taken a chunk of your foot off 😬

They said it looked infected and felt warm to touch. You should have seen the amount of gunk that came out. Jesus Christ. Antibiotics now and a check up on Thursday. 🙏

OMG not numbing it sounds horrendous. I don't know how you were able to.

Going back in - will they give you an appointment? Might be worth checking if they can transfer the dressing change to district nurses or anything if they won't give you a specific time they'll see you.

ClarathecrosseyedLioness · 20/12/2022 15:09

Please see a chiropodist/podiatrist, they can supply/advise padding etc.

Ihateboris · 20/12/2022 15:09

If there are any medical people reading, how long will it take to heal?? I'm missing my running already 😭

How long is a piece of string?

The longer you avoid friction on the lesion the better.

No-one 'medical' can advise you as to the prognosis just from a picture.

District Nurses are for the housebound not for able-bodied.

OP, you say you have an appt on Thursday so you need to keep that and follow their instructions in the meantime.

Yes, I just have to be patient. Netflix beckons.

Never had blisters quite that bad but it’ll take at least a week to fully heal. It does heal. I wouldn’t try to hurry it along at all.

Get strips of plaster that you cut. Don’t walk much and soak if you can bear it to trim off excess skin (I think?).

Splodgerbodgerbadger · 20/12/2022 15:24

That looks very painful, I’m glad you got it sorted out. I got these on a walk with my friend last year, she had to go and fetch her car as I couldn’t walk any further, I’m a runner too so sympathise with you not being able to run. I hope it feels better soon.

Omg, it's so painful isn't it? As for the running, it's my therapy, and if I don't run, I feel very depressed. 😭

Omg @Ihateboris I'm so glad you finally got seen to.

It looks spectacularly painful. It's very disappointing to be laid up over the festive season and miss out. You'll have to set yourself up on the sofa with some mince pies.

I'm sure you could manage a single glass of Prosecco / gin and tonic at some point as long as it's not the evil antibiotics, where drink is forbidden!

Wishing you a speedy recovery, and looking forward to the updates!

FolornLawn · 20/12/2022 15:29

Fuck! That photo is horrific! You can see all the insides! Well done OP, you've been very brave. I think you should post a link to this thread on Sporners' Corner, the deviants over there love this type of thing.

I’m exactly the same with running I feel very down when I can’t run too. I really hope it feels better for you soon.

Bloody hell! That’s the most horrific blister I’ve ever seen - you poor thing!

Abraxan · 20/12/2022 15:35

Hopefully the pain will start to decrease as any infection goes, with the antibiotics.

Have had similar once. Not quite as big but nasty and horribly infected - it was tracking up my leg by the time I went to A and E. Took a while but did improve gradually.

Doyouthinktheyknow · 20/12/2022 18:29

That’s horrific, looks so painful! That’s going to take a little while to heal, I think. Lots of rest for you.

WeeOrcadian · 21/12/2022 12:02

JESUS, that's made my toes curl and I'm a hardened sporner (and proud of it)

You'll be welcomed in sporner corner though, do expect requests for photo updates!
