ZOE NUTRITION NEW THREAD- anyone want to join in?

LisaLovedUp · 20/11/2022 08:37

I've started a new thread as my previous one was titled for techie stuff.
If anyone is fairly new to this please join in and we can share!

I am now on Day 4. All tests done and now recording my food each day. It takes me ages as my phone is slow (needs replacing) and some things I eat aren't listed (it relies a lot on packaged foods.)

eg yesterday I made a veggie curry and the only options were branded readymade ones so I just had to pick one I felt was close enough, rather than itemise every veggie in the one I made.

I noticed this as some 'negative' feedback on another platform.

Has everyone/anyone done the advanced health questionnaire? I started it but gave up. I felt it was more for their data gathering (which is fine to an extent) but also very intrusive and I didn't want to give my personal medical history when it may not be 100% safe from hackers.

I'm going to feedback on this to them.

My blood sugar readings so far are in the 4 - 5.4 range mainly although on a couple of mornings it was below 4. The highest was 7.3 after a sweet dessert ( a one-off for me - out with friends) plus ice cream.

Any tips from more experienced users welcome!

I've been listening to Tim Spector's book on Audible - and I'm pretty sure he says that the unknown (and worrying) factor is the impact of the herbicides etc on the gut microbes - so Organic if possible,

The issue with organic veg is that if you want to eat organic grown in the UK, it's very limited as it's seasonal.

Much of the organic veg in supermarkets is grown overseas and I read many years ago that their definition of 'organic' was not as strict as ours.

eg they could use land that had not been solely used to organic crops relatively recently, whereas the UK regulations insist the land has a longer organic history.

I think there is going to a trade-off here between knowing the veg are truly organic, when we can't be sure of their provenance, and getting the variety we need for the Zoe way of eating.

Can I ask a silly question from the more experienced people here....

when you come to the end of your coaching (after activating your personal diet etc) what happens to all the data on your phone?

Does it stay there for future reference? ie the suggested foods, menus, scores for each food?

One bit of feedback I want to give is I'd love to have had the program on the pc, instead of having to read everything on a tiny screen and rely on my phone.
My phone is slow, old and it's really frustrating working through the app on it.

Hi, does anyone have a referral code they'd be willing to share? Please PM if so - TIA!

Tuckytuck · 15/12/2022 09:51

Hi, another seeking a referral code.

Please PM me if you have one.

Many thanks 😊

Hi, happy for you to use mine joinzoe.mention-me.com/m/ol/gf1eb-69195df731

@LisaLovedUp I think you lose access to it all. I'm in a FB group for Zoe too and a lot of people at the end spend a lot of time screenshotting their results and scores so they can keep them.

What I don't know is if you take a break and then come back whether it keeps it all for you ready to reinstate or if it's lost. One for checking with the coaches maybe.

Thanks @MrJellyBelly that’s really good to hear. It can seem a bit overwhelming at first, but I really like the way that the app breaks the changes down into smaller steps. I was thinking I needed to aim for a daily score of 75+ every day, but I’m not at that stage yet and that’s fine.

I’m wondering whether to get Tim Spector’s latest book - has anyone on here read it and would you recommend?

Hi Texican, can you direct me to the Facebook Group - I generally hate FB but would like to see another thread with users discussing their experiences.

In terms of keeping your data, I've been told that it does stay there so you can reinstate your account. I plan to do this at some point but I'm hoping they revise their subscription model first. I can't see why a monthly fee should be the same for those who need minimal support (basically just scores and updates) vs those with regular coaching requirements and lessons.

Cheers,

Matt

Totally agree with your point - I too would have liked a web version so I can log in at work when I'm eating my lunch or just scroll through the lessons easier.

LisaLovedUp · 16/12/2022 15:52

Thanks @texican !

@MrJellyBelly I think there ought to be a simpler (cheaper) subscription. Most of the Qs I've asked the coaches have been technical (ish) about the site.

I also hate doing the whole thing on a phone and would like a laptop/desktop version and able to use a monitor.

I had a query over the scoring of foods because it's rarely that any food gets a 'good' for BG, fat and gut.

I don't need long term coaching, but I'd like to be able to see the scores/ tally of some food combinations, longer term in case there are any surprises.

Not read it, thought about it, but reckon that paying £300+ for the Zoe stuff it may well just repeat what I know already.

I've been doing ok with my scores so for me, it's a case of adding in a few more things to try to get diversity in the gut, although the overall score for it was high.

Like others, I was a bit surprised that one small item (like a biscuit) took around 4 points of my daily score.

On the app, recording food, it's good to be able to zap the barcode but the thing that annoys me is quantities. I have no idea no the weight of some things and all the faffing around to weigh stuff is just tiresome. I'm not doing it to lose weight but I am interested in how much carbs/protein I tend to eat in an average day.

Good luck!

FancyFelix · 23/12/2022 08:02

Has anyone had results recently? My test day was in early November and still no sign of results. All the lessons have finished and I've had nothing new in over a week. Had a holding response in the chat with an assurance that my results would be available within a week, which has now passed.

texican · 23/12/2022 09:05

Sorry @MrJellyBelly I missed your request before - I can't seem to get a direct link but if you search on FB for 'UK Zoe Nutrition Chat (unofficial)' it should come up. It's really active and lots of different types of people/scores so a good range.

@FancyFelix mine went into my Junk email and I missed it, but it sounds like they've actually said yours is delayed so it's probably not the case for you, sorry.

MadameLeotta · 27/12/2022 18:54

Not going well here - realistically I think I might need to just aim for a couple of ok meals a day and try not to worry about the copious amounts of chocolate, biscuits and other festive crap that I’m eating until all the family visits and Christmas socialising is done with 😩

Wazzzzzuuuuuuup · 27/12/2022 21:40

Results came back this evening. Sugar control is good, fat control is poor, gut diversity is moderate and overall gut health is in the second quartile 'lower 25%'. I was surprised that my gut health wasn't better, given that I have been pescatarian since I was 13 and generally eat a good variety of plant foods.

I wasn't surprised that my fats were so poor (31). I know I have high cholesterol and have likely familial hypercholestraemia, although my gp was not interested in testing me until I turn 40. My cholesterol runs around 7-8.5, so I knew not good. I'm interested to see what I can change, particularly by influencing my gut microbiome. Thankfully I enjoy many of the foods that are recommended for me, and can already see small ways I can improve my meals.

I'm guessing noone scores highly on white bread, even with good glucose control? One of my biggest challenges will be reducing/eliminating the rubbish carbs. I've been full of baileys and pudding over Christmas but had a good scoring (74) day today, and back at work tomorrow so hope I can start a new conscious eating routine.

SwimmingFree · 27/12/2022 22:57

Hi there, I'm on the wait list for a while now and have had an invite to join from April.

I wondered if anyone had a referral code that would get me started earlier? Thanks

texican · 27/12/2022 23:11

Hi @SwimmingFree my code is joinzoe.mention-me.com/m/ol/gf1eb-69195df731 and you're welcome to use it

@Wazzzzzuuuuuuup what a time to get your results through, in the midst of Christmas and Baileys. It will be helpful to have some time to get your head around it all ready to go to Jan though, I'm doing something similar this Christmas.

I think white bread is out for most but through the lessons you learn the best way to eat the carbs ('clothe your carbs') if you're going to choose to have them. I find that bit the most interesting and most challenging to get my head around

towardsexperience · 28/12/2022 07:55

Clothe your carbs sounds intriguing. I begin in April after using a referral code thanks to a lad on here. I am really looking forward to learning what might help or even hinder me. Really enjoying reading each of your journeys and what you are all learning along the way.

texican · 28/12/2022 13:30

In fairness I think the clothe your carbs phrase is actually coined in the Glucose Revolution book by Jessie Inchauspé which is a great companion to Zoe as that's the principle they're going for.

You're very patient @towardsexperience but hopefully following others' journeys will also help prepare you for your turn too

towardsexperience · 28/12/2022 18:14

Ive just received the Glucose Revolution so will be delving into that shortly. I wish i could start tomorrow but the link had me set up for april so I will take my nerd for nutrition/diet self and study up ahead of my test kit! lol I cannot WAIT for the glucose monitoring I think its fascinating.

Wazzzzzuuuuuuup · 30/12/2022 06:56

@towardsexperience I have a refer a friend code if you're interested. It doesn't reduce the price but gives you immediate access, acting as a 'queue jump'

towardsexperience · 30/12/2022 06:59

Even if im already signed up? I thought my husband had used a code from on here to buy the package, but only allotted April.

towardsexperience · 30/12/2022 07:01
