ZOE NUTRITION NEW THREAD- anyone want to join in?

509 replies

LisaLovedUp · 20/11/2022 08:37

I've started a new thread as my previous one was titled for techie stuff.
If anyone is fairly new to this please join in and we can share!

I am now on Day 4. All tests done and now recording my food each day. It takes me ages as my phone is slow (needs replacing) and some things I eat aren't listed (it relies a lot on packaged foods.)

eg yesterday I made a veggie curry and the only options were branded readymade ones so I just had to pick one I felt was close enough, rather than itemise every veggie in the one I made.

I noticed this as some 'negative' feedback on another platform.

Has everyone/anyone done the advanced health questionnaire? I started it but gave up. I felt it was more for their data gathering (which is fine to an extent) but also very intrusive and I didn't want to give my personal medical history when it may not be 100% safe from hackers.

I'm going to feedback on this to them.

My blood sugar readings so far are in the 4 - 5.4 range mainly although on a couple of mornings it was below 4. The highest was 7.3 after a sweet dessert ( a one-off for me - out with friends) plus ice cream.

Any tips from more experienced users welcome!

Oh and I've signed up for a year - I want to fully embed the change of habits and am enjoying some of the recipe suggestions in the app.

Sooverthemill · 01/03/2023 21:09

I've signed up today for a June start. I need to make changes following a really tough few years of bad health following severe food poisoning which seemed to have destroyed my gastrointestinal response to food. Been trying to,follow the advice anyway but I feel I need the discipline

BatFaceOwl · 01/03/2023 22:25

I'm about ten days away from my results I think. But he had a little mid way report and my biggest spikes were caused by porridge and seeded sourdough so that's weird

Bigger spikes than the day I ate an entire packet mini choc rolls, 3 bags of crisps and macaroni cheese ...

LulooLemon · 02/03/2023 08:16

I've just my mid-way report too.

Yes, porridge gave me one of my worst three sugar spikes - disappointing.

The very worst spike was from a bar of chocolate - it was only 205 calories, so not exactly a binge.

TheOnlyKoiInAPondOfGoldfish · 02/03/2023 08:45

Yep the oats spike is bonkers - but can be mitigated by adding other things. Many of us have switched to barley, which doesn't cause the same spike.

MrJellyBelly · 02/03/2023 09:31

Surprised to hear that oats are spiking so many people - they are almost like my super power, high scoring & fill me up for hours. Most days I reach for porridge with a spoonful of but butter (whole earth chocolate & hazelnut is a surprisingly high scorer!) with chai, sunflower & pumpkin seeds.

I guess thats the power of personalised nutrition though, every body is different.

BatFaceOwl · 02/03/2023 09:44

Don't actually really like porridge so tbh it's no great hardship not to eat it. Although I do understand that the spikes could be levelled off by maybe eating it with peanut butter or Greek yogurt or seeds etc

Ive skipped it for now anyway and am having Greek yogurt, chopped fruits, linseeds, chia seeds and a teaspoon of peanut butter for breakfast right now

Anyone else miss their blood sugar sensor at all or just me?!

SomethingNastyInTheBallPool · 02/03/2023 11:45

I miss my sensor! I might get another.

My biggest spikes came from butternut squash risotto (expected) and a falafel wrap (surprise). My smallest spike came from a healthy meal of Häagen-Dazs salted caramel and Kelly’s clotted cream ice cream.

Porridge is spike city for me, which explains why I feel ravenous after just a couple of hours.

BatFaceOwl · 03/03/2023 16:12

Still waiting for results! Mine say they're expected around the 13th March and there's just the gut health analysis to go

SomethingNastyInTheBallPool · 03/03/2023 21:10

Same here - mine says March 11, and it all hangs on the poo.

LulooLemon · 03/03/2023 23:07

it all hangs on the poo. 🤣

Same here. I'm kind of hoping the report comes earlier than it says.

BatFaceOwl · 05/03/2023 19:49

Well keep us posted as and when you get your results. Fingers crossed for a little earlier

Having said that though - the daily lessons are a nice touch

FinallyHere · 06/03/2023 07:18

@Batfaceowl

Anyone else miss their blood sugar sensor at all or just me?!

Like @SomethingNastyInTheBallPool I bought some extra sensors from the app. I'm wearing one again a year after I originally did the Zoe tests. I'm delighted to say that my blood sugar remains very stable and a year later my average reading has dropped from 7.2 to 5.3 mmol/L

That in itself justified the cost of Zoe for me. I might have been able to do that myself without Zoe but the fact remains that I didn't. It's all good.

LulooLemon · 06/03/2023 08:51

@FinallyHere

May I ask, when you bought the CGM from the app, did you then need to open a new account in your own name? The Zoe CGM had its own password I seem to remember.

Was there any problem in buying it if you are not diabetic?

Just wondering as I am thinking of buying one too.

FinallyHere · 06/03/2023 10:12

@LulooLemon

Goodness, I had forgotten that I used login details supplied by the Zoe team.

I had no difficulty at all buying more sensors, no qualification required at all.

Set up a new account for DH, and used my existing account for my own continuation. I was a tad disappointed to discover that last years stats have disappeared. I have the headlines and I suppose the details are of limited vale a year later.

The only difficulty I found was my DH not being as interested as I am and stalling on wearing one. Nearly a year later he has agreed to start using on on Tuesday. I have no idea what's special about tomorrow but so long as he agrees .... Tuesday it is.

These sensors are commercially available so I expect the manufacturers don't really care because they don't have any duty of care. They will just be happy to sell more.

LulooLemon · 06/03/2023 10:24

@FinallyHere Thanks v much.
Good luck with DH!

pistachioicecream · 06/03/2023 10:47

I'm on day one today.

Had the joy of the breakfast muffins a couple of hours ago and can't wait for lunchtime so I can enjoy it all over again!

I have a couple of questions about the Libre app that I wondered if anyone could help with.

Are you supposed to log that you've eaten something in the Libre app?

Then does anyone know if there's anyway of seeing the data points as numbers rather than just the graph and the current number? Not sure if that makes sense. Just realised I didn't record the highest number my blood sugar went to after eating the muffins and now its' hard to tell exactly from the graph line.

Thanks

LulooLemon · 06/03/2023 11:17

@pistachioicecream

The lunchtime muffins have a different recipe and are nicer.

No, you don't need to record meals on the Libre app, but you can if you want to

The way to get accurate numbers is (as far as I can see) just to scan your CGM a lot. If you want to see the effects of a meal, then scan every 15 minutes to see the changes. There's no limit to the number of scans you can do.

pistachioicecream · 06/03/2023 13:37

Thanks @LulooLemon Just finished the lunchtime ones - I thought those were worse to be honest and my glucose level has gone up to 9.0 which was much higher than this morning. Anyway done now so that's good.

I have a splitting headache though. Probably from no caffeine as I don't like black coffee.

Am counting down the minutes until I can do my blood test and then have a coffee!

I have a Libre3 sensor which sends data to the app automatically so you don't have to scan it at all.

Its all very interesting though.

LulooLemon · 06/03/2023 13:51

@pistachioicecream

Oh, you found the lunchtime muffins worse... 🤦‍♀️. Never mind, that's the end of them now!

You're right, you don't need to keep scanning, but I think you have to do it at least every eight hours for it to stay connected.

But if you want really accurate blood sugar readings before and after meals, then scanning manually will give you more precise data than you can see from the graph. Then you can see these numbers in your logbook on the libre app.

ZOE NUTRITION NEW THREAD- anyone want to join in?
pistachioicecream · 06/03/2023 16:18

@LulooLemon oh that's interesting. My log book is currently empty.

I can't see anyway of manually scanning the sensor though. Did you have a Libre3 sensor or 2? I think I'll message the Zoe app and ask.

Thanks for your help

BatFaceOwl · 06/03/2023 16:43

@LulooLemon you use your phone to scan

Just open the libre app and hit 'scan' and then hold your phone over it

BatFaceOwl · 06/03/2023 16:43

Sorry @LulooLemon tagged you in error! I meant @pistachioicecream

pistachioicecream · 06/03/2023 16:47

Thanks @BatFaceOwl

I just messaged the ZOE chat in the App to ask as well and they've come back to say I don't need to do that. Apparently the Libre3 sensor uses bluetooth to download the sensor data so you don't need to scan it at all apart from the initial set up scan.

I think that must be different to the previous version 2 sensors some people will have had.

BusyBeeBB · 06/03/2023 19:54

where do you buy the sensors from?
