On the back of my neck. Had it for at least a year. A tiny spot. It’s SCC. In shock. How bad are these things? Google says less bad than a Melanoma but worse than a BCC. Worried it will have spread 😭😭😭

Try not to panic.

My dad had skin cancer on his neck. It was cut away with a large margin of healthy tissue and didn't come back. He also didn't need any other treatment

Hi how are you now OP? Having a bit of a scare myself with some suspicious skin areas

A guy I work with had skin cancer on his face and was back to work after it was cut out and he got the all okay, he’s doing really well.
a friend also had skin cancer on her face, nhs said that she’d have to wait until it had doubled in size before they’d do anything about it so she paid privately to have it removed and is also now in the clear and doing great.

Eyesopenwideawake · 21/02/2024 22:27

I had a 'spot' on my earlobe that kept coming, going, crusting and bleeding for about two years before I got it checked. BCC, 30 minute op and all done. Wish I'd got it looked at earlier though; would have saved a lot of 'what ifs?'

TheChosenTwo · 21/02/2024 22:27

Although this thread has made me wonder if a persistent bump/spot patch on my nose might actually be a bcc - it’s been annoying me for over a year! Never even considered that it might be anything dodgy.

shonapop · 21/02/2024 23:46

Thanks for the replies. It really does worry me as I've gone down so many Dr Google rabbit holes, and if I'm honest, there are so many bits on my body that look like the images I'm finding. Then, I'm tearing myself up, trying to remember how long it's been there.
I am a sun worshiper and I thought I was being careful with suncream but I realise now i wasn't reapplying nearly enough or wearing a hat.

Won't do any harm to get it checked for peace of mind x

I have exactly the same thing. I thought it was just a spot originally as I still do get them occasionally, despite being in my late 40s. But it must have been annoying me for two or three years now. When it isn’t red (looking like a spot), crusted, bleeding or healing, it looks like a flesh coloured lump. I’m going to have to go and get it checked now aren’t I?! I’m going to feel so embarrassed if they say it’s nothing to worry about.

Just do it and never mind if it's nothing. My patches could easily have been dry skin but doctor suspects bcc!

That is shocking! Is that just to see a GP?

It’s for any kind of GP appointment — in person or phone calls, as we can book both online now. (My surgery doesn’t offer video calls, or at least not initially. They might offer them after phone calls I’m not sure.)

I’ll have to check again at 8am tomorrow!

Hope you had better luck today!
The 2 dodgy looking bits on me that the gp thought were possible bcc were checked by a dermatologist today (as I was sooo lucky and got a cancellation ) He really wasn't worried. Told me to keep an eye and see him in 6 months.

I am really happy that you’ve been checked and they’re not worried. That must be a huge relief!

I forgot to check for appointments earlier, so of course there are none available now. I’ll set an alarm for Monday I think.

I’ve got a funny looking spot on my lower leg that I noticed this week. I’m worried enough about it pay £50 for a one mole check at a private clinic - it’s worth it for peace of mind to me as our doctors are so booked up. I got a next day appointment with full results in 3 days.

Brilliant! Was it good news?

Carsarelife · 25/02/2024 20:26

I had skin cancer in 2018. Had a biopsy then the cancer spot removed from the top of my nose just next to my eye.
Then had to have it done again as they didn't get it all.
6 years on I've been cancer free and so far all ok and no more worrying spots

I'm glad to hear that. Do you do anything different now, sun cream wise? I've really panicked and have ordered spf 50 face cream, and I'm going to start using it every day. It's going to be a faff finding one that doesn't bug my eyes.

My son had one on his back his wife was worried so off he went to the GP, who said it was nothing. Wife not happy so asked GP to send off a photo to the consultant. He was seen within a few weeks, consultant said BCC it was removed. Son had lived in the Caribbean for six years always surfing, diving so was high risk.

It's a worry so always getting checked properly

Carsarelife · 26/02/2024 07:07

@shonapop I'm just more careful now.
I always wear a hat and use spf 30. I don't buy spf 50 as I read an article that said spf 30 is better as it allows some sun to penetrate your skin and allows vitamins in still. SPF 50 is more like a total block and it was making peoples skin bubble up underneath as it was just attracting heat and keeping heat in and causing skin to bubble up underneath.
So I use SPF 30 and apply more often.

I couldn't wear sunglasses for first couple of years after having the cancer removed as where it was done was top of nose next to my eye and new skin was still quite painful with heavy glasses sitting on top of it. It's better now so back to wearing sunglasses again.

Will just be super careful I'm 51 now
