On the back of my neck. Had it for at least a year. A tiny spot. It’s SCC. In shock. How bad are these things? Google says less bad than a Melanoma but worse than a BCC. Worried it will have spread 😭😭😭

@shonapop I'm just more careful now.
I always wear a hat and use spf 30. I don't buy spf 50 as I read an article that said spf 30 is better as it allows some sun to penetrate your skin and allows vitamins in still. SPF 50 is more like a total block and it was making peoples skin bubble up underneath as it was just attracting heat and keeping heat in and causing skin to bubble up underneath.
So I use SPF 30 and apply more often.

I couldn't wear sunglasses for first couple of years after having the cancer removed as where it was done was top of nose next to my eye and new skin was still quite painful with heavy glasses sitting on top of it. It's better now so back to wearing sunglasses again.

Will just be super careful I'm 51 now

That is a very good point that I hadn't considered. I forgot that when my kids were wee, they always came up in bumps after factor 50, no matter which brand.

Nothing much to report but the clinic was very efficient and friendly - I was in and out in 10 minutes. The nurse took some photos and said I would receive a written email report in 3 days. There will be one of 3 outcomes, I will be asked to watch it and review in a month, it will be declared nothing to worry about or I will be referred to a consultant. If it a referral is needed I will be notified by phone rather than email.

I will update when I hear on Thursday but already am reassured that if it is something to worry about then the wheels are already in motion to sort it out quickly.

It sounds like a great service. And so worth it for peace of mind.
I wish this was available to everyone, say in a pharmacy at a really affordable price.

I agree - I did check to see if mole checking was on the list of conditions pharmacists can now help with but it’s not included. For me, £50 is worth it as I said but I’m aware it’s too much for others to consider.

Had my results emailed through this afternoon, a day earlier than I expected.
It was reassuring with a provisional diagnosis of benign with a recommendation that I have it re imaged in 4 weeks to ensure no change. I will do this (at an additional cost of £30) for complete peace of mind, but I feel much better about it now than I did a few days ago.

That's great, really glad to hear that. Money well spent for peace of mind.

Aww fantastic. Let us know how you go x

My GP took a couple of photos and will send them to dermatology, and they’ll decide from that whether they want to see me. I got the impression that a regular referral would take forever!

Fraaahnces · 12/03/2024 02:44

They will remove it and check that the margins are clear. You will be advised whether there is any further treatment required when they have checked this and know exactly what kind of SCC you have… (you may need a PET scan to check your lymph nodes.) The outcome for most SCC is usually surgical removal and follow up scans.

Keeping everything crossed for you SlightlyConcerned23, hope it’s good news.
