It's really nice isn't it? I have had some real, genuine, caring advice from lots of Mumsnetters and have only been on here a few weeks, they hardly know me!!

Secur, where we lived, I was regarded as a late starter in the smoking stakes, so can well believe you started when you were nine!

I stopped when I got pregnant with DS1 in November 1998 and did stay off them until New Year's Eve 2001, but then lapsed and only stopped again last year when I got pregnant with DS3. Am determined to keep off them this time though, especially as I have a heart condition so it would be a pretty stupid thing to do...

well done dinosaur. I am what one calls an occasional smoker! (sounds very posh doesn't it?) I really enjoy a ciggie when I go out drinking. If I don't go out I don't have any. Can go without for months if I don't go out and don't miss it either. Even when I have a couple of glasses of wine at home I don't feel the need to have a cigarette. Always have to have some on me when I am lucky enough to get a night out though. Silly ain't it? Guess it's a bit like a bloke who doesn't smoke all year round and then has a cigar for christmas.

Well done Secur. Very impressed. Bit sad that your family are being unsupportive. My sis is pregnant and BIL has stopped smoking and I know he is finding it hard (tends to fiddle with one of DD's rattles at family events!) but I am so pleased that he has done it for my neice/nephew. Glad your DDs are helping you.

WELL DONE, WELL DONE, WELL DONE, WELL DONE, WELL DONE, WELL DONE, WELL DONE

It is so worth doing, just stick with it. Even now I have quit for 5+ years I still have the odd wierd evening where I would kill for a fag - but I promise you it is very rare.

jamiesam · 01/12/2004 22:10

Well done!
I gave up over 5 years ago now. For a long time I never dare have a cigarette in case I went straight back in to habit, but honestly never think about it now (and try not to be rabid anti-smoker when someone blowing smoke in my face!)
Good luck. Keep on taking it one day at a time - and look forward to those special cuddles!

AeroBaublesAndChoccyDecoration · 01/12/2004 22:14
