I had a flu jab earlier this week and feel absolutey horrendouswith the side effects. I didnt last year that mean if I had caught this years flu it would have got me bad or does it not work like that?

I remember Dr Jarvis saying on medical Monday on Radio 2 (about covid vaccine & then vaccines in general) that side effects after vaccinations was just down to an immune response, not having any didn’t mean you didn’t have a good response but neither were they predictions about how ill you would be. So, it seems it’s totally random. DH was really poorly after his flu, I had flu and Covid together and was fine.

Ahh thank you!

No clue about actual question but I've been feeling very headachey & really sick following mine. Not pleasant.

I had my Covid booster today. I've been absolutely fine with all the other ones but this one has affected me - v sore arm and quite feverish.

DoodlePug · 13/10/2022 22:12

If you feel like you've got a cold there's a fair chance you just caught a cold independent of having the vaccine.

Side effects are more usually sore arm and headache a day or 2 later.

sandytooth · 13/10/2022 22:13

I know this sounds awful @Wombat27A But I'm glad I'm not the only one as I was getting a bit worried

No I don't feel like it's a cold. Its my head and my legs and a shivering feeling

As PP says, the flu vaccine is not a live vaccine so the symptoms are your body mounting an immune response ready for if you did get flu. Lots of variables, maybe you were fighting another virus too.

Badger1970 · 13/10/2022 22:17

I don't know why but my body reacts really badly to the flu vaccine, I've had 3 and been poorly for weeks after as well as seeming to catch everything going for the rest of the winter. Covid vaccine had same effect.

Life's too bloody short to make yourself deliberately unwell so I'm not having either this year.

Abraxan · 13/10/2022 22:25

I had my covid booster and flu vaccine together a couple of weeks ago. I was also fairly run down at the time and only recently before had had a pretty heavy cold.

The combination of being run down and the two vaccines appeared to knock me much more than before. Both arms reacted to some extent, and I felt shocking a few hours earlier, lasting a good 24 hours or more. Ended up missing a day at work, which I've never had to do following a vaccine of any type before.

I assume it was the mix of it all, plus being surrounded by coughs and colds at the moment,

Livingonjuice · 22/10/2022 10:07

Just had mine and my arm is really sore already. Wasn't like this with last year's. Hopefully won't be rough as well

hellswelshy · 22/10/2022 11:58

I had mine this morning and felt the effect in my arm only minutes later! My arm 3 hrs on is quite achy and feels heavy. It normally takes alot longer to feel the side effects for me.

lentilly · 22/10/2022 12:06

Took me a week and a half to get over mine

Allfurcoatandnoknickers · 25/10/2022 06:26

I’ve had headache, achy legs and diarrhoea after mine on Friday afternoon.
Not sure if diarrhoea related- bleeughh
Had flu and hospitalised for 9 days with pneumonia so not taking any chances

fernz · 25/10/2022 22:32

I'm interested in hearing more experiences too, trying to decide when to have mine. Due to my work schedule it's almost impossible to plan now if I end up with side effects (self employed and the work is such that I need to be well and fully focused). No side effects from last year's but hearing so many people say they've been worse this year?

MossGrowsFat · 25/10/2022 22:36

Whole family has had it (we paid always do) and no side effects at all.

aliasname · 25/10/2022 22:56

Had covid & flu vaccine at same time. Side effects from covid (presumably since had it previously) shivering and sweats. Never had reaction from flu jab.

Husband felt very rough with flu like symptoms, only lasted a couple of days though. No side effects from his covid jab. It just seems random. Both arms hurt though, that's pretty much guaranteed.

lawandgin · 25/10/2022 22:57

Dh and I had ours the day before yesterday. Slightly sore arms, that's it.

flippoo · 26/10/2022 07:36

I've had it and it's like I've fit a mini flu was 100% fit the day of having it.

QuiltedHippo · 28/10/2022 06:18

Urgh I feel grim 2 days on, fever and chills, sore throat, headache.
I'm thinking I've probably caught something too? Just want to know so I can avoid people if so

Oblomov22 · 28/10/2022 06:19

I'm wondering this. How long did you feel ill for? When did it start? I had both, but seem ok so far. But might it hit me tomorrow or in. Few days?

JustDanceAddict · 28/10/2022 07:25

Had mine & woke up
shivering like crazy the next night. Fine next day.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 28/10/2022 09:39

I was fine last year but this year it's taken a good week to feel normal again ,just in time to have my Covid jab yesterday and now I feel horrendous again 🙄😂

dumbledory · 28/10/2022 20:04

Had the jab Wednesday morning, felt a little iffy Thursday evening and now it's Friday have full blown body aches, a tickly cough, sinus pain and diarrhea.

Not sure if this is from the flu jab, or if I was coming down with something anyways, but I'm still glad I've had the jab. Sure proper flu is a lot worse than this.
