cervical erosions

they can cause bleeding after sex yes? so what would happen if u know u have one, but it doesnt normally cause bleeding and u have a history of regular normal smears, but sometimes have a slight spot after sex? Can erosions be "disturbed"? could condoms irritate them?

I have Cervical Erosion and occasionally bleed after sex. This hasn't worried me in the past too much i must admit.

However in the last four months i have bled more between periods (about a week before when the egg comes away). I'm off to the doctors tomorrow.

Perhaps you should see a doctor to make sure all is well.

joss stick, do u find u can be ok for ages with no bleeding but then suddenly spot after sex? whats confucing me if these things can actually flare up and down IYSWIM, i would be eternally grateful if u would let me know what the doc says about this as you situation seems exact to mine, are u up to date with smears? Pruners, thanks for replying and i REALLY hope your IVF is sucessfull, good luck xx

The nurse would not have caused a cervical erosion. It will bleed because of the mechanics of embryo transfer. Perhaps if you had her job you would be a little more tolerant.

loopylou6 · 24/01/2008 19:39

CH i dont think pruners was intending to be insulting or "intolerant" so that really wasnt very nice

Hi i started bleeding during sex a couple of years ago but i ignored it, i thought id mention it to the nurse at my next smear. She tried to do the smear but couldnt as i kept bleeding so i was sent to hospital for the erosion to be frozrn off. It wasn't painfull and while i was there i had my ovarys scanned and was diagnosed with pcos. I havent had any problems since and have since had another baby.

JSo · 24/01/2008 19:48

Hi Loopylou I have a cervical erosion too and I am exactally like you describe. Sometimes it never ever bleeds and then sometimes it jsut does after sex. I was frantic with worry when this first started, but have had so many procedures to check I am ok that I am now beginning to accept that it is not a problem. Though this has taken years. I may go months without a bleed after sex and then for some reason it jsut happens again. When this happens I try and remember that they told me this jsut happens and not to worry so I keep repeating this until it doesn't annoy me..iyswim

Josstick I too have what you describe so would be interested in what the doctor says. Am I right in saying that you bleed about a week before you take your actual period. I have a bit of spotting sometimes (not after sex) a week before my period or some brown spotting jsut days before even..I am thinking this is my erosion and due to horomones just before my period. What do you ladies think...dont want to go back to docs as been checked out so much when I was obsessive about it. My smears ahve always been fine and are up to date.

Thanks JSo

gemmiegoatlegs · 24/01/2008 19:51

i also have cervical erosion with normal smears. The provoked bleeding happens maybe 1 time in 10. I think it depends very much on the position and the um, friction IYKWIM

cheshirekitty · 24/01/2008 19:53

Maybe I read it wrong, if I did I apologise.

JossStick · 24/01/2008 20:09

Loopylou & JSo - i will certainly let you know what the Dr says / recommends.

I have always (since Teens) noticed my egg come away exactly a week before i'm due. However i had bleeds at that time a couple of years (i'm 34) ago and had it checked out - nothing sinister but had a smear at the hospital to check. All seemed well and it seemed to be okay for a while.

Now it's reappeared instead of the egg coming away - i left it for four months and bled last night so am getting it checked out.

I have 2 children (4 & 6). I am a bit nervous of having the freezing / burning thing done (o&e's mum) but have been told before it is painless.

JossStick · 24/01/2008 20:11

And yes - i'm up to date with smears.

Egg totally different to bleed - just moucusy with red 'veins' through it. Quite fascinating really.

loopylou6 · 24/01/2008 20:11

jso, i think the bit of bleeding just before periods sounds normal, i think i came across something like that before when i was frantically googling my question i put on here thanks so much everyone for the replys its really helped.

loopylou6 · 24/01/2008 20:12

I thought the freezing would hurt but it was fine, bit strange later when it starts to defrost!! If you have it done remember to take a pad with you, i didnt know and made dp run into the local supermarket!!

PanicPants · 24/01/2008 20:20

I've recently been back to see my gp due to this as I was concerned too. I have slight spotting throughout the month, but more the nearer I get to my period.

When she examined me she did say it was enough to cause the bleeding and she wasn't too worried, but I did have a smear at the smae time, which came back normal.

So maybe if you ask for a smear, that will out your mind at rest.

Also dr said, if I wanted too I could have lazer treatment which will 'burn' the erosion and when it heals it would stop the bleeding.

I'm still thinking about it but a bit squeamish at the thought of it!

loopylou6 · 24/01/2008 20:23

thanks for sharing PP my next smear isnt due till september 09 do u think i should still ask for one, i dont relish the thought tbh, if your bleeding doesnt bother u and u no its not a problem maybe u could leave the treatment if u dont fancy it?

OP posts:
JossStick · 24/01/2008 20:32

It does look a bit like a fertilised chickens egg really - although obviously mine is unfertilised.

White mucous with red veins in - sometimes it's whole and sits "proud" on my knickers - bizarre!

PanicPants · 24/01/2008 20:33

The only time the bleeding bothered me was the worry something was wrong - but now I know there isn't (due to smear) I think I'll leave the treatment tbh.

It was definitly more the worry than anything else.

You could always ask for a smear if your worried.

loopylou6 · 24/01/2008 20:41

joss thats absolutely facinating, im in awe PP i will see how i go tonight and if i bleed i may gate crash the docs and she what she suggests, so when your all going to sleep tonight i expect u all to be wondering if mr and mrs loopy have a blood free sesh (notice how i was perfectly serious before and now i am joking? thats wine and mumsnet for ya [smile)

I have cervial erosion too - bled throughout my pg with ds, and occassionally with dd, and spotted quite a lot between periods over the last 6 mths of so - josstick/Jso - similar patterns to both of you
I don't have them with sex, but think that's pretty normal.
I saw GP, had smear (all clear), and was also offered the cauterisation (sp?), if I wanted it. I've talked to people on here who've had it done - & it is apparently fine/painless, but I agree, there's something about having the insides of your fanjo frozen that doesn't appeal

PanicPants · 24/01/2008 20:45

lol loopy!

JSo · 24/01/2008 20:50

FP your post made me giggle ..well I have had my fanjo frozen but then got pregnant again and have another cervical erosion now. The cauterisation to me felt like my insides wheres being frozen iyswim (well that is what was happening)..uncomfortable but not painful..but not rushing back to get it done again!!! Your post has made me feel better. In fact loopylou thankyou for bringing this subject up and all the answers you have received has really helped me to... Thankyou all ladies

JSo · 24/01/2008 20:52

Loopylou..hope you will report to us all in the morning about the events of tonight..not all details jsut if you had a blood free night ..enjoy

funnypeculiar · 24/01/2008 20:53

Ah, yes, JSo, the doc did say not to bother if I was planning any more pg as it would probably come back.
I tell dh I have a special, sensitive fanjo
