CKD stage 2

My high blood pressure was discovered a couple of years ago and have been on tablets ever since.
At one of my phone reviews in the since then they did say my kidney function was reduced a bit but nothing to worry about. So I didn't worry or think anything more and that was all that was said
But recently at one of my phone reviews they sent me a letter after saying I had secondary hypertension
And CKD stage 2

Which I was never really aware of before this?
Does this mean I've actually got kidney disease???
I don't even know if this is a stupid question

Yes, there’s 5 stages and stage 2 is the second mildest stage of chronic kidney disease

So I've actually got kidney disease?

I was under the impression that the kidney function being lower (from that one comment once from doctor) was caused by high blood pressure.
But the wording of the recent letter (CKD stage 2. Secondary hypertension) makes it sound like the kidney was causing high blood pressure?
I don't know if this is right or not.

Or if I do have kidney disease really?

You've got a mild loss of kidney function but it's not kidney disease unless you have one of the markers listed.

Please speak to your GP and let them advise you.

Hi, funny enough, I have high blood pressure, Hypothyroidism, stomach issues, very high cholesterol, CKD stage 3 and a cyst on kidney.

When I went for MRI for kidney cyst, I told them about CKD, they did a blood test before MRI and said that there is no signs of CKD!

I am so confused, went for new bloods recently and will see what the story is then.

Feels like everytime I go for bloods, there is a new item to add to list!

The point I'm trying to make is that I'm not so sure that they use the same criteria when testing.

Pre-eclampsia was back in 2013. Hypertension I'm assuming must be relating to the pre-eclampsia in 2013 where I stayed on blood pressure tablets for a few months till it settled down.

Is this saying something caused the high blood pressure?
As I was always under the impression that the high blood pressure made the kidney function lower (but nothing to worry about I was told)
But CKD has never been mentioned to me.

I don't know if I'm being stupid but I don't know what this means in comparison with that chart in your post. I didn't know what that AC1 is for example

That says that you have had normal investigations for secondary causes of hypertension, not that they’ve found a secondary cause (other than noting you’ve had PET which can be a risk factor for longer term hypertension).

I thought when it said secondary causes and CKD it was saying the kidney issue was causing the high blood pressure?
I'm quite confused because this is the first time I've seen this CKD thing

PET = pre-eclampsia.

Basically every year the government gives GPs different hoops to jump through if they want any cash to pay their staff.

This year they've been given the excellent task of categorizing everyone into different groups depending on their kidney function.

So basically pretty much everyone who doesnt have 100% perfect kidney function is being put into a category. Obviously you have to be told about this, they cant just out it on your records.

And it is causing havoc at GP surgeries where people are constantly ringing in angry they've never been told they have kidney disease. And using up a lot of GP hours trying to placate patients.

Next year it will be something completely different they have to do.

They weren't writing purposely to tell me that. I had my regular review where they test my blood and urine. And the blood pressure o l took that morning was fairly high so he was writing to my GP to tell me that and to tell the GP that he's advised me to take it regularly for a week and to tell him the results and he sent a copy of the letter to me. And just at the top of the letter it has my details like in the photo

It was the consultant at the hospital writing the letter to my GP

OP - your eGFR of 79 is good and there's no protein in your urine which is also good.

Yes, kidney caused the high blood pressure as it's not filtering properly. You need to start conservative kidney treatment ASAP.

Sorry read what you said first, not what the report said. Thing is kidney disease cases high blood pressure and high blood pressure causes kidney disease.

How did you come to that conclusion?

A gfr of 79 is pretty good,most drs don’t do anything about it until it’s under 60.
yours could be improved with a better diet and reduction in blood pressure,

I've been on blood pressure tablets for a few years now. This is why I have these reviews every so often
