EVERYTHING I eat today tastes really, really bitter - any idea what it could be?

It started this morning when I tasted a piece of the new loaf I had just made. I almost got my DH to throw it away as I thought I hadn't rinsed the washing up liquid off the tin properly - but he couldn't taste anything.

Since then everything has tasted exactly the same, very bitter, and I do feel slightly giddy - though I am wondering whether that is just because I haven't eaten much. I have a permanent bitter taste in my mouth and throat. No other symptoms though.

Any idea what it could be? PLEASE tell me it's not the first sign of that horrible stomach virus [pleading]

You're pregnant?

OverworkedAndUnderpaid · 18/01/2008 13:47

Happens every time I am pregnant

foxinsocks · 18/01/2008 13:48

sinuses?

NineUnlikelyTales · 18/01/2008 13:48

Not unless you can get pregnant by doing the front crawl in the same swimming lane as a boy who has just done the butterfly stroke

Wouldn't there be other symptoms with sinuses though? I haven't even had a cold.

Bad tooth?

NineUnlikelyTales · 18/01/2008 13:51

No, nothing wrong with my teeth either goingfor3. And have brushed them this morning, naturally!

the giddiness could be sinuses? dunno

perhaps you still have some nasty bit of food from last night's dinner trapped somewhere in your mouth

jalopy · 18/01/2008 13:53

Acid reflux?

NineUnlikelyTales · 18/01/2008 13:57

Foxinsocks I floss, honest I do

Acid reflux is a possibility I guess - might try some Gaviscon in a moment.

Oh now I am really worrying about being pg now though. There was just a very small incidence now I come to think of it - but if I got pg that way I would feel such a teenager Period due on Tuesday so too early to test anyway.

snigger at very small incidence

You see, the truth is coming out now isn't it.

First of all, you were just swimming together and now there's been an incident.

Are you hoping to be pregnant/ok with it before I wade in any further then come back next week and find you all morose ?

foxinsocks · 18/01/2008 14:00

and he was only a BOY

NineUnlikelyTales · 18/01/2008 14:01

No, definitely not hoping to be pg but it wouldn't be a total disaster (except for my figure). We do want another baby but not for another couple of years.

It's reflux. Definitely. Oh yes.

NineUnlikelyTales · 18/01/2008 14:02

Well my DH looks quite youthful anyway!

If you haven't eaten much, there will be a lot of acid sloshing about in your stomach.

NorthernLurker · 18/01/2008 14:07

My first and only thought was 'pregnant'

bossykate · 18/01/2008 14:10

pg?

NineUnlikelyTales · 18/01/2008 14:11

There is definitely something wierd going on. I just got the carrot cake out of the oven and it smelled really strongly of burning rubber, not like cake at all

OP posts:
peatbogfaerie · 18/01/2008 14:16

sorry sorry first immediate only thought

pg

our dd2 was an 'incident'

sadly not a young boy in swimming pool

peatbogfaerie · 18/01/2008 14:16

have you tried taking the rubbish out and not gagging?

Actually, that's a thought. Try brushing your teeth. If you gag, you're pregnant. Much cheaper than a pregnancy test

NineUnlikelyTales · 18/01/2008 14:51

OK I have had some gaviscon and I'm now waiting to see if it has an effect. Tried brushing my teeth and no gagging, just the same old bitter taste. But the bathroom smells strongly of poo even though no one has used the toilet since it was cleaned this morning.

Either I am pg or have some odd virus.

Oh Lord it wore off a bit by last night but it's back with a vengeance this morning. Does anyone know whether you can buy pg tests that work 4 days before period due?

The increased sensitivity with regards to smell was definitely something I had when pregnant -was it something you've noticed whilst pregnant before?

I used to heave everytime I had to open a fridge as the combined smells turned my stomach -nobody else could smell it though.

Not sure about the pregnancy tests -someone will know though, so just bumping this for you
