EVERYTHING I eat today tastes really, really bitter - any idea what it could be?

It started this morning when I tasted a piece of the new loaf I had just made. I almost got my DH to throw it away as I thought I hadn't rinsed the washing up liquid off the tin properly - but he couldn't taste anything.

Since then everything has tasted exactly the same, very bitter, and I do feel slightly giddy - though I am wondering whether that is just because I haven't eaten much. I have a permanent bitter taste in my mouth and throat. No other symptoms though.

Any idea what it could be? PLEASE tell me it's not the first sign of that horrible stomach virus [pleading]

I think ClearBlue digital claims to give good results that early, as does First Response.

My thought on reading the title was "pregnant"

loopylou6 · 19/01/2008 10:35

see now i was gonna say have u eaten an indian recently (not an acual indian but an indian meal ) this happened to me once because of one of them pesky seeds, but it certainly didnt effect my sense of smell, i think there are tests u can do before your period is actually due...

MissMalaprop · 19/01/2008 10:35

Another vote for pregnant here . Plenty of tests claim to be able to tell before your period's due.

NineUnlikelyTales · 19/01/2008 11:10

Thanks - I will go to the chemists in half an hour and report results

NOT PREGNANT

DH and I are actually quite disappointed. It seems DH is ready for another baby after all!

So it is probably sinuses or something similarly unglamourous.

And I am going to buy some folic acid.

Thanks for all your suggestions

ooooo wonder if your period will come, it may of been to early to tell...

NineUnlikelyTales · 19/01/2008 13:00

Oh don't Loopy

You did buy a twin pack of tests, surely...?

colette · 19/01/2008 13:38

Surely the early tests aren't as accurate are they?

NineUnlikelyTales · 19/01/2008 14:20

I did buy a twin pack but I'll wait and see what Tuesday brings first. I feel a bit queasy

I've finally discovered what it is. My tonsils are huge and yellow[vom] and my tongue is covered in something vile at the back. Looks like I'll have to see the doctor and not the midwife on Monday. It's a relief to know at last though.

SoupDragon · 19/01/2008 18:57

Oh that's far less exciting isn't it? Bah!

Hope it doesn't hurt.

loopylou6 · 19/01/2008 19:24

tut, your so inconsiderate, how dare u get tonsilitus instaed of getting pregnant

NineUnlikelyTales · 19/01/2008 20:05

I know, it's crap and boring isn't it? And it doesn't even hurt, it just tastes vile.

At least DH and I can start planning this second baby now we know we're definitely having one. Sometimes it takes a pg scare/tonsilitis to do that for you

And I have also starred in my very own Am I Pregnant thread, which is something I thought would never happen!

OK so that's a bit yucky but useful then - good luck going for the baby
