Cauliflower Steaming On Such A Winter's Day - 10 / 10 thread

For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information by following the link at the very bottom of the page

Have added veggie shep pie & apple and another pear t my total.

Mrs C, Hope you have a better day tomorrow. Think some of the suugestions on that thread about the poster with the 'redmist' had loads of helpful suggestions too. I need to be calmer with my DD too, so I do sympathise.

night all

TooTicky · 16/01/2008 23:02

Veg pie for dinner, then apple tart. Now eating chocolate and beetroot cake.

MrsC, I am sending you hugs.
Re your other thread, I have a book which you'd be very welcome to. I can't actually remember what it is but I seem to remember it was good. I have to keep it hidden though otherwise dd1 reads it and then quotes it at me. Will get dp to scan high shelf as I'm not really tall enough, even with a chair.

OverRated · 17/01/2008 03:15

Crikey - a new thread and over 100 posts already.

for Mrs C. What a nightmare.

Am intrigued by chocolate and beetroot cake. Sounds yummy.

I've been very good the past couple of days. Must keep it up.

MrsCarrot · 17/01/2008 08:34

CHOCOLATE AND BEETROOT, sorry, caps, is lovely I've eaten it.

PSW - haven't ignored your post I'm thinking about it, when are you coming?

FrannyandZooey · 17/01/2008 08:34

Onebat, no - why, did you think you knew me? Definite good start yesterday, do you want us to give suggestions to pimp your veg or whatever the young people say these days?

I have had 2 satsumas, grapes, raisins, 2 kiwis, half a banana. So 4 and a half. I am going to try to start counting again to make sure I am actually getting 10. We will work on the exercise thing...

morning!
I think they were selling off boats at Greenwich, Franny, which made me think you might be from round those parts. What a lovely idea that is.
We have a boating bit near us (E London) might mosey down there.

Has everyone gone somewhere else?

FrannyandZooey · 17/01/2008 12:13

Ooh ooh Idris I was thinking about you yesterday and wondering 'where is Idris' and then I thought 'no SURELY she has been in and I will just look like a twit if I ask'

I am eating lettuce, cucumber, pepper, avocado salad. Those nice Cauldron foods sausages, bread and butter and e*%m. I put everything on the plate without the cheese and it just didn't look right. Sorry MrsC. You would not believe I was vegan for a year would you.

I need help ladies.

Tonight we're having roast cod. I'm making a nice thick tomatoey sauce with lots of veg in to go on top (can't you tell Masterchef is back on!)
NOW - what can I do to go with it as a side dish. We are not eating starchy carbs so no potatoes, rice, couscous or noodles.
I know I'm being a pain in the bum but hoped someone could give me some ideas?

onebatmother · 17/01/2008 13:54

auberginey thing? griddled, olive oil, chopped red chilli, finely chopped mint?

or griddled, then some of the thick tom sauce on the top, maybe basil, then breadcrumbs/parmesan mixture and grill?

lots of griddled courgettes and roasted leeks?

MrsCarrot · 17/01/2008 13:54

Spinach and puy lentils

roast squash/veg

purple sprouting broccoli/green beans with lemon

onebatmother · 17/01/2008 13:56

mmm

warm broad beans (frozen) with v finely chopped garlic, and teeny bit mint?

onebatmother · 17/01/2008 13:57

forgot olive oil on bbeans.

Iklboo · 17/01/2008 13:59

Ooh they sound lovely. The courgettes & leeks sound yummy.

MrsCarrot · 17/01/2008 14:01

PSW - I can't think of a playbarn type things in Norwich except for the actual Playbarn in Poringland. Lunch with prams/babies is tricky, everywhere seems to be quite small.

If I do eat in town I go to Pret as there's loads of sofas and a large upstaits eating area. Or sometimes the forum is quite good as its spacious, there's a playhouse bit and then if the dcs get bored you can always pop in the library for a while - also there are often stalls/exhibitions in there.

The coffee shop there is Costa I think, so its not cheap but quite nice. If you're very hungry pizza express is upstairs and that's very light and spacious and you can watch all the emos crying and pushing the hair out of their eyes in clouds of lemon and black on the steps.

Pulse is above Rainbow health store past the market and they do lovely vegetarian food but it gets very busy so you need to get there early and I'm not sure about highchairs, you'd have to check with them.

ZippiBabes · 17/01/2008 14:07

with the honourable exception of toot i think all you 10 190ers will be pleased to know that zips is not pregnant...not nearly as pleased as me obvs.. i did have some slightly wobbly thinking there...

iwas very good and went to college mostly cos i wanted my exam result but it hasn't been marked yet

wasted a couple of hours taking apart a briggs and stratton...worth doing purely to act like a complete dippy blonde girl

climber has been set the forfeit of finding us something to do in london..so he is hopefully let in his imagine run riot [quizzical eye brow raising emoticon required]

not sure if i mentioned that if i had lost our scrabulous then my forfeit would have been to go to san marino for the wwekend and climb to its highest point which is apparently not that high...accompanied by climber...

a banana

Boco · 17/01/2008 14:54

blimey zippi, that must've been a bit scary!

Pulse does have a highchair. I love Pulse. Been to that Porningland Playbarn with very reluctant and moody men who didn't want to be there at all so never been back. Nice little farm bit though.

Oh MrsC I also love watching all the Emo kids - sometimes there are thousands of them aren't there - all hugging and holding hands and staring into space, they're so cute with their wonky fringes and eyeliner.

I've had
lettuce
tomato
cucumber
olives and sundried tomatoes
apple
