For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information by following the link at the very bottom of the page

Oooh 3and - of course it's a cool course, it's a cool job. And believe me much appreciated by those with children in need of OTs.

MrsCarrot · 16/01/2008 17:59

I've got the copy from my friend.

She has five and doesn't shout as much as me, maybe its the book. To think I laugh at her with all her self help books, in fact I always tell her to get rid of them but here I am borrowing it from her.

Boco - would you? I mean, don't ring specially but when you next speak maybe? Thanks.

ahundredtimes · 16/01/2008 18:06

No, I don't do self-help either. I repress. (Oh but I went to get a massage today because my shoulders are SO painful, and the lady said 'do you do heavy lifting?' and I said 'No, I repress' and she said 'Are you going to cry then?' and I said 'I might'. Shoulders are down, but still a little knotted.)

Anywaaay, it's fine and quite gorgeously nuts and american, but it is a script for when the stomach tightens and the eyes start to pop. ALSO very good for when you're in the vortex and half of what they do is done for the reaction/rage/attention and then they are all surprised and the situation is diffused.

Sorry this should be on the other thread. Have eaten celeriac soup, 2 bananas, 1 apple and are having poussin and red cabbage tonight - I've been shopping, you can probably tell.

MrsCarrot · 16/01/2008 18:12

I could do with a massage, I think I may have a voucher somewhere from my birthday. Food sounds nice. We are all having different cartons of soup as we can't agree. I don't care today.

ahundredtimes · 16/01/2008 18:15

That's the spirit. You don't all need to have the same soup. Then dance. Then say right let's skip bathtime and get in our pyjamas and I will read you all a story.

Or something.

Find the voucher. Or let's send Boco over to give you a massage, I bet she's got some whale music tucked away in her CD archive somewhere.

FrannyandZooey · 16/01/2008 18:17

NQC does that HTT and she is brilliant at being calm and reasonable with her boys. I don't think she finds it comes naturally any more than you do MrsC

God a massage would be fantastic. I think my hands will turn to claws one day, and my head will sink into my chest and i'll communicate by growling and dragging. On my holiday my head popped up for a bit, but a few days back and my shoulders start to creep back up. My friend offered to take me for a massage with him, but it kind of felt like a weird thing to do with a male friend.

Boco · 16/01/2008 18:19

What? I do not have any whale music. I have Joan Armatrading. And speed garage. No not really speed garage.

ahundredtimes · 16/01/2008 18:22

Right. I am going to find you both a day spa in Norwich.

Somehow those words haven't quite run together right.

MrsCarrot · 16/01/2008 18:23

lol at speed garage

think I may still have a gabba tape somewhere

Boco · 16/01/2008 18:26

Maybe we should listen to that and break things? Might be a cost effective alternative to massage, as long as we don't break expensive things.

MrsCarrot · 16/01/2008 18:35

oh, yes, a spa day, facial and massage and scrubs and saunas. Sounds wonderful.

ahundredtimes · 16/01/2008 18:59

Go find your voucher MrsC.

Congrats 3and and good luck with the course.

MrsC about your tax and your shouting I'm sure it will turn out ok, they can't leave you with nothing. Hope the books and advice help with the shouting. At least you recognise what's going on and are addressing it. You have a lucky little girl.

DD is poorly today. Think it's the MMR from last week. I got home from work to find the house was oddly quiet and she was just lying in dh's arms looking up at him. She's been a bit hot too

I have not been shopping this week. I decided to try and go an extra week with just what we have in the cupboards and I'm nearly there! I'm quite proud [polishes non-consumerist recycled halo] However it means my F&V intake is not what it could be: Beans, dried apricots, peppers in goulash, orange juice. Oh lord that's it

MrsC any thoughts on Play barn type places in Norwich on a Saturday? My first thought was probably a bad idea! I think we'll go swimming and see how the day goes from there, maybe beach or forest, weather permitting. My sis came on mumsnet to see what she could find to do with babies! What about somewhere for lunch?

FrayedKnot · 16/01/2008 20:12

Evening all

MrsC how awful...I was going to offer a bright jollying "everything will be fine" smile re smear test but now I think I need to send a cartload of them And with DH away, as well...

Things started off a bight fraught today as DS has been super demanding over the past few days, which has been rather trying, but today I got him a couple of story CDs which he had on this afternoon and I actually didn;t hear a murmur from him for about 15 minutes!

I have just henna'ed my hair...and my forehead

FrannyandZooey · 16/01/2008 20:23

god I love story tapes. We don't have a tv so I use them to get half an hour of sanity from time to time

Have eaten leftover frittata (mushrooms, leeks, peppers) with leftover roasted carrots and parsnips and leftover new potatoes and lots of kale

I want to put in a bid for a paddle boat from our local boat pond. I want to fill it with sand and give it to ds for his birthday. But we were ill on the days we were meant to go and look at them, and I have no idea if some of them are in crappy condition. If I bid on one not having looked at it may it turn out to be a complete waste of money? Dp says he doesn't think it would be easy / cheap to repair a wooden boat

OP posts:
FrannyandZooey · 16/01/2008 20:24

and we have a new kettle and it makes tea tasting of plastic and I drank half a cup and now I have a headache

OP posts:
FrayedKnot · 16/01/2008 20:40

I think the boat thing would be a great idea, even if a little rough round the edges.

I bought some almond butter today. Gosh, I rather liked it..rather too much. It must be incredibly high in calories (but I didn;t look).

FrannyandZooey · 16/01/2008 20:42

if it had holes in though, you wouldn't be able to put sand or water in it would you? I don't care if it looks scuffed up

OP posts:
MrsCarrot · 16/01/2008 20:46

I think it is quite high in calories, fk, but good fats.

Thanks for all kind words, and sorry for neediness, it has been quite an emotional day, I think I may have a drink.

Franny - I LOVE story tapes, we have piles from the library, they are a lifesaver sometimes. We have tv but they don't watch it all the time though standards have slipped recently.

FrannyandZooey · 16/01/2008 21:41

MrsC I hope tomorrow brings some kind of explanation and hopefully some better news. I think your best bet is to go to CAB if you want expert advice on sorting out the repayments.

I have had 4 satsumas. Is anyone actually counting portions? How many have I had? I feel like I am doing 10 but it could be self-delusion

OP posts:
MrsCarrot · 16/01/2008 21:49

Thanks, Franny. I haven't counted portions for a while actually thought I think it's a fair bit, mostly.

onebatmother · 16/01/2008 22:15

psst franny you're not SE London are you?

onebatmother · 16/01/2008 22:16

Night everyone.
MrsCarrot can I add my good wishes?

today
carrot

banana
mushrooms and tomatoes (spag bol)
grapes (wine)

So an excellent start, I think.
