For those MNetters who have been so kind as to be interested in DHs health, I feel that you are long overdue an update.

6 weeks before Christmas he was terribly ill with an accidental opiate overdose. I was told to monitor him for 24 hours and to phone 999 if he stopped breathing! He went into the Hospice for 5 days and they sorted out his medication, and put him on a different drug. They also sorted out his nerve pain and vomiting. In the run up, he lost 10 kg and looked awful. I began to wonder if he would live to Christmas.

Once his pain was under control his oncologist started him on a second line treatment of Oxaliplatin and capecytapine.

He had his 3 round today and his doctor is delighted with the progress that he has made. He is slowly putting the weight back on, is no longer in pain, his tumour symptoms have subsided, he is no longer being sick, he is eating like a horse, and went into work every day last week (just for 2 hours , but this is a big step forward)

Doc wants him to continue with the treatment and is discussing further treatment options when he can no longer tolerate the side effect of this drug regimen.

Miraculous! I have my darling boy back for a little while longer.

That's just fantastic news, mb - I thought about you all a lot over Christmas.

I didn't know you could stay on the Menabilly estate - I re-read Rebecca last year when we were staying on the Lizard (and watched that Rick Stein programme where he talked to Daphne du Maurier's children)...am off to google now.

My goodness - he's going in to work?!

I had assumed that he was no longer working at all. Was that a naive assumption? What does he do MB?

Brilliant news anyway.
