Mouth has felt weird today. Just a bit wrong, so just glanced in the mirror with my torch and it's quite disgusting!
The picture does not really show how big the lumps are but anyone got any ideas?

I’m going in now to doctors. Recently had vitamin c deficiency we will see what’s up. Tongue not suppose to look like that. It’s suppose to be flat all the way down.

Supposed to be flat, since when?
Circumvallate papillae are normal

DymosCj · 17/04/2023 15:37

Well you see yesterday I was in the car with a buddy, he wanted to know what I was concerned about, I showed him my tongue, he told me it don’t look normal, he showed me his tongue and the front looked just like the back of his tongue.
smooth, pink, no cracks, no white film, and no bumps, :/ y’all are not doctors, and my friend is not a doctor, but we are all human. It’s better to consult with your doctor if you don’t know or if you’re worried.

DymosCj · 17/04/2023 15:42

Look , the doctor told me I have some bumps in my throat, and it’s not normal, now we get to do tests, I’ll let you know the juicy details after I’m done with the appointment but beware, this is not normal, my doctor has said. ☹️

RobinHumphries · 17/04/2023 15:52

But what did the doctor say about the tongue?

DymosCj · 17/04/2023 15:55

Doctors said tongue not normal and he is prescribing me something for thrush, and testing me for mono

and something for infections. :) go get checked out if you got a problem in ur mouth by a doctor!

DymosCj · 17/04/2023 15:59

Doctor says this is most common in vape users

RobinHumphries · 17/04/2023 15:59

NO! This is why if you think you have something wrong with your mouth you see a DENTIST who is used to the normal anatomy of the mouth NOT a doctor who obviously doesn’t. The tongue in that photo is perfectly normal.

That's utter rubbish, dentists are excellent at identifying mouth/tongue issues and referring patients for appropriate medical treatment.

StrugglingWeight · 17/04/2023 16:57

@DymosCj youe tongue is totally normal. The bumps are circumvalate papillae. Tongues have bumps

RobinHumphreys is right dentist is much better at diagnosing mouth problems. I work in secondary care and GPS refer papillae in all the time, because they aren't experts on the mouth and dentists are.

DymosCj · 17/04/2023 17:37

🙄remember what the doctor said

Basilbrushgotfat · 17/04/2023 17:43

You know I think it comes down to the fact mysterious oral changes ought to be assessed by a trained medical professional. This can be either a dentist or a doctor.

Theoretically, a dentist is probably better qualified but we all know that both dentist and doctors can be a bit of a mixed bunch and few people these days have reliable access to either.

coretext · 17/04/2023 19:23

Dentist here. Perfectly normal tongue. We are specialists in this area. We know how to diagnose and treat all common oral medical conditions. My doctor colleagues had one lecture on oral medicine when we were students. We studied it for several years. We continue to study it as part of our continuous professional development.

We also know when it is appropriate to refer to an oral medicine or oral
Surgery colleague.

You're not cleaning it properly

GerronBuzanDoThaWomwok · 18/04/2023 02:47

How do you clean a tongue? Do you mean scrub it with toothpaste, or can you buy proprietary devices? 😬

Basilbrushgotfat · 18/04/2023 05:45

You can use a tongue scraper or just brush it with a toothbrush and a bit of toothpaste :)

GerronBuzanDoThaWomwok · 19/04/2023 01:02

so a bit like a boot scraper, then? I need to rethink my (admittedly) lack of life skills. When did scrapers become a thing? 🤐

Prettylittlepeach · 26/07/2023 02:42

Hi did the treatment that the doctor give you worked?

Prettylittlepeach · 26/07/2023 02:49

And what diagnosis dif he give to you if you don't mind sharing

MillyMollyMardy · 26/07/2023 17:07

Not the OP but I'd hope they said that's normally anatomy- we all look different, nothing to worry about and no treatment needed.
There are a few posters on this thread that I'm sure are dentists based on previous posts as they know way too much about dentistry to not be.
