I quit smoking over 3 months ago cold turkey with a completely free website

www.whyquit.com I first read about it somewhere on Mumsnet - thank you, it has saved my life! If I can quit anyone can. Good luck!

LittleWonder, I just want to say a big thank you,for posting this message. I have just taken a look and it is extremely positive and has given me hope when I thought that I was never going to be able to do it.

Thanks to you I have a very good chance of being smoke free. You are a little angel.x.

LittleWonder · 11/01/2008 19:11

Oh you have brought tears to my eyes Tripley. I will support you all the way, so let me know how you are doing! I cannot remember where I saw something about the site on Mumsnet ages ago, and I bookmarked it until I was ready - which of course one never is. That site has helped me every day - there are videos for each day that you quit. If I can do it, you can do, it is the Mumsnet of being smoke free!
Good luck! Breathe deep, live long and hug hard!

Little Wonder - thank you. I have just looked at that site and am going to give it another go!! Fingers crossed becuase the last time I found it sooo difficult. x

LittleWonder · 11/01/2008 19:24

It is hard! BUT with the power and support of the site, the minutes go by and the days clock up and before you know it you are breathing clean air. Best of luck! smoking was why ~I got out of bed - I smoked in the middle of the night and outside in the freezing cold when I was ill. I failed many times. but I will never take another puff, and it is all down to the site. I wish you all the best. x

Morning LittleWonder!!

Just clocking in with you, to say it has been 40 hours of being smoke free!!!!!!

Can I ask you what days you found the worst?
Yesterday was hard, but today seems that little bit harder and I feel like I am actually missing just having a ciggy now

Don't worry though, I am too positive to give in,just wanted to know when its starts to get a bit easier!!!!!!.x.x.

feLiCiTYshAgwell · 13/01/2008 10:47

well done!
i went cold turkey nov2006
always have nicotine tabs with me...just in case!

LittleWonder · 14/01/2008 12:35

Sorry didn't get back to you Tripley, was away for the weekend. the first 72 hours are the worst, so you are nearly through the process of getting nicotine out of your body. Stay close to the whyquit site, and make sure you watch the videos. when you get a bad craving, take deep breaths, and time it, it will be gone in less than 3 mins. I took hot showers all the time those first 3 days.

How are you feeling today?

TripleyTigger · 14/01/2008 14:50

Well, I have eaten a bag of toffees and have now started on the mints!! LOL

I down loaded the smoker counter,so that has been spuring me on everytime I am on the computer!!!

I won't lie, I am finding it really difficult now and I think if there had been a packet of ciggys in the house I would have caved in!! But you are right,it does pass and I don't want to go through this again!! I haven't got long now until my 72 hours are upand then i am going to go back to the website to join their group

Thanks so much for being around.x.

LittleWonder · 14/01/2008 15:10

It is blooming difficult, hang on in there. I put all my ciggs down the outside drain because I couldn't trust myself.
You are nearly through the 72 hours, I wish I knew how to do links, there is a whole thing about this on the site. Anyway, why don't you book yourself a massage? I did that with the money I saved and gave myself that treat in my first week. If you don't like that sort of thing, book yourself something nice - you deserve a reward - let me know what you have lined up!
I had to talk to myself to get through the hard part at the start, I thought I was going mad and then read on the site that this is not only normal but important, so talk away. Did you make your lists? Are you drinking fruit juice?
Watch the Palmolive bottle demo on the site, it is so off putting.
Hugs and Celebrations, well done you!
xx

Hey Tripley - congratulations! How are you doing?

OP posts:
TripleyTigger · 14/01/2008 21:24

Thanks LittleWonder!!

feel a bit better now,now I have made it through the hard part(I think).
Does it really get better from here on in? Only I saw someone on another thread stuggling with day 11

Is that just the fact that they want one and not their body?

If you ever want to get hold of me and I don't answer here, I play on the sanctuary thread,so feel free to pop over:

harleyd · 14/01/2008 21:25

well done you

i might try again soon

TripleyTigger · 14/01/2008 21:26

the Sanctuary

TripleyTigger · 14/01/2008 21:28

Harleyd, honestly I have failed so many times before, but that web-site is amazing!! One look had me chucking my fags away!!! I didn't look at the pictures,it was just that the writting was so positive and took you through the stages bit by bit.

LittleWonder · 15/01/2008 08:57

Well done Tripley! Have some bells and whistles. Look at www.whyquit.com/whyquit/A_Symptoms.html Keep reading on the site - it took me a while to successfully join Freedom, but that was helpful. So, to answer your question - yes the nicotine is now gone from your body and the withdrawals from that are finished. You are still getting rid of the other additives, the worst is over, the thoughts will be there for a while. Now that you have quit, you do neeed to start looking at those informative if nasty bits - it wil reinforce your decision to never take another puff! Well done to you! Breathe deep, hug hard and live long!

TripleyTigger · 15/01/2008 11:24

Feeling much better today LittleWonder, might be just a mental thing knowing that I have done my 'time' but who cares as long as it is working!!!!!!!

DH smokes, which I thought I would find hard, but as long as I smell the smoke after he has had a ciggy I am fine (as it is starting to turn my stomach now)don't know if I am brave enough to stand next to him yet when he is smoking,or be left on my own with ciggys!!!!

LittleWonder · 15/01/2008 13:05

There is even a section about quitting with a still smoking partner...
Don't rush the process, I wouldn't tempt fate and be anywhere near his ciggs - throw them under water if you get tempted
I checked out the Sanctuary - I did mean book a RL massage, but perhaps the virtual one is good. Well done you!

TripleyTigger · 18/01/2008 11:16
