I quit smoking over 3 months ago cold turkey with a completely free website

www.whyquit.com I first read about it somewhere on Mumsnet - thank you, it has saved my life! If I can quit anyone can. Good luck!

Hey. Am another one about to quit. I gave up for 18 months using patches and fell off the wagon on a particularly raucous night in the pub. Have cut down to 3 a day on the evening and on the 4th Feb am gonna give up for good.

This site looks fab!

Wish me luck

I quit 3 months ago too after coming on here.
Was well recommended the book by Alan Carr and bought it.
The great thing was when you start reading it one of the first instructions is NOT to give up until you`ve finished the book.
Obviously i then took my time and read a couple of pages each night.
However about half way through i found myself WANTING to finish the book !
I was actually looking forward to giving up-i did so cold turkey and it was cool.
The book changes your whole way of thinking and if i can give up anyone can !
Thanks mumsnet x

Good god - that site . The photos of the man who was dying was the most harrowing I have ever seen. I know smoking causes a painful death but the pain is literally etched onto his face, and the emotional pain on his wifes face and the confusion on his DC's face. So shocking. DP asked why I wanted to look at a photo of someone who was dead. Had to explain he wasn't actually dead and that was what made it so scary. Bloody bloody hell.

Can I just ask. How old are those of you who have given up and how long have you been smoking for?

LittleWonder · 13/02/2008 11:41

Ancient in Mumsnet terms I had been smoking since I was a teenager. Why do you ask? Well done for quitting!

My Dad dying of lung cancer due to smoking should've been enough for me to quit, but it wasn't until DP said to me that I couldn't that I did it, it is hard, and it's virtually impossible to do it if you dont believe you can or arent determined enough, good luck to all those trying.

LittleWonder · 13/02/2008 11:52

That is what is so great about the site - it makes the virtually impossible possible!

I have to say I think that anyone can do it once they put their mind to it it's lack of willpower when people fail. IMO.

Hopefully that site will give more people a reason to want to quit.

LittleWonder · 13/02/2008 12:00

I disagree. It is a drug addiction, and unfortunately the drug companies push nicotine replacements as a solution - sheer madness. The site is just education - there is an awful lot of brainwashing by the cigarette companies to overcome, how else can you explain the growing numbers of teenagers putting burning foul smoke into their lungs?
A few people do not become really addicted and think it is just willpower - but there is so much more to it.
To those who think they may never be able to quit, take a look and good luck.
