I know there is a mumsnet runners thread but I am a total beginner, and feel a bit overawed on there as they all seem really experienced.

I am going to be following this training programme, running 3x a week, starting next week once my children are back at school. I say running, but in reality i will be starting with a brisk walk, then picking up the pace over the next couple of months.

I have registered interest in Race For life, which is may/june, and will be taking part in the harefield fun run.

Anyone want to join me

Hi Furry,

I'll race you to the sweet trolley anyday, but I've always been a sprinter rather than a runner- especially where puddings are concerned.

Got run2 catalogue through post and am fantasising about the slinky outfits I will wear when I am less lardy - rather than bright orange "firms name emblazoned" tshirt and manky trakkies I'm currently sporting.

Minum · 13/02/2008 15:12

I go at 9.00am when I've dropped off DS at school, I could go in the evening next week, as DH gets home early from work, but I've got very set in my routine over the last 6 weeks.

LadyJogsAlot · 13/02/2008 15:40

i usually go between 7 and 8.
i find this time works best for me, can't imagine getting up for a jog before ds gets up.
hope i manage to keep jogging next week in half term.

pinkspottywellies · 13/02/2008 20:38

Ooh I've missed quite a bit. Let me catch up...

Goals: started out just wanting to do Race for Life but running is giving me motivation to eat better and I'm losing weight so my continuing goal is to lose more (about another stone to go). Like MrsC says I want to be the kind of person who pops out for a run for an hour! I like to be fit and healthy and I love exercising. When I get into a routine - particularly when I have a programme to follow - I get hooked but if I stop then it's a mission to get going again.

I usually go at about 7 when dd has gone to bed. A couple of times I've been before lunch when a friend has had dd for half an hour. At the weekends I'll go in the morning. I don't really mind when I go.

MrsJC have you been??? Come and let us know how you got on!!

LadyJogsAlot · 13/02/2008 21:04

yooohoooo... mrsjc... are you there?

i went out this eve. am tired now. just ate dinner leftovers
the casual grazing must stop!

MrsJohnCusack · 13/02/2008 22:35

no is tonight I'm going (am in NZ, it's Thursday morning here)
no sports bra yet either grrrr - apparently you only exercise up to a certain norkage

but this is the spirit, keep hassling me!

Minum · 14/02/2008 07:19

MrsJC - did you go ? How was it ? Sports Bras are tricky, arent they. I wear one that fits, with a crop top on top thats a bit tight, and that seems to hold them pretty firmly in place

MrsJohnCusack · 14/02/2008 08:22

HAHAHAHAHAH
I did it!

the whole lot, except I had to walk through the 5th 60 sec round because I had a bit of a stich

You know, I heart Rawb. I don't think I could have done it without the podcast - it was brilliant! And actually where I live is perfect for running, I ran all round the loop of the river and it's very scenic with lots of nice gardens/houses etc. to look at and not to much main road either, but not so deserted you'd worry about being mugged. You can get quite a way in 20 mins can't you? I ran through the park as well really slowly past a group of teenage boys (every fattie's nightmare) and this is the OTHER brilliant thing about iPods, you can't hear if they make any sarky remarks! (and I can't see without my glasses either so it's all good)

wore just a normal bra and it wasn't too bad, think I will take your crop top tip Minum and save my pennies for now. The speed I 'run' at is in no danger of jiggling my chest too much at the moment.

I feel FABULOUS, cheers misdee for the thread, aitch for the nudge, and everyone else for the hassling. Now I just need to GO AGAIN!

MrsJohnCusack · 14/02/2008 08:25

RUN not round
no idea what I was on about

Furball · 14/02/2008 08:40

well don Mrs JC - it's a great feeling isn't it?

I've just snuck in 1/3 mile straight home from school without stopping [smug] or out of puff [double smug]

Minum · 14/02/2008 08:59

Well done Furball and MrsJC

MrsCarrot · 14/02/2008 09:03

Oh, well done, MrsJC, it's great isn't it? Lol at the teenage boys, it is strange running past people who are clearly looking at you. I always run just a little bit faster, stride even, then I get round the corner and gasp.

LilRedWG · 14/02/2008 09:05

Well done MrsJC!

Furball · 14/02/2008 09:14

one woman in our village stops and claps and shouts 'go girl' as I run passed [whats all that about smiley]

LadyJogsAlot · 14/02/2008 09:31

yay well done!

i always jog with my msic turned right up. i once got shouted at in the park by some dickheads silly teenagers. i was mortified!

SauerKraut · 14/02/2008 10:56

Hello. I have been been doing this too but have had to spend this week wistfully gazing at the forest out of the window as all dcs have been/are still ill. How do you get started again after you've had to miss a load? Do you dive in where you left off or build up again? And do you do any exercise in the house when you can't get out?

AitchTwoOh · 14/02/2008 11:16

good question, sauerkraut, i'm looking for the same answer. my funky knee has meant that i'm not confident about going out in case i damage it further. tonight, though, i think. i'm supposed to be on week 3/1.

and WAHEY! for mrsjc, i'm SO pleased for you. i have a shock absorber bra, running chums tell me they're the best, so if you are going to buy one at some point...

how hysterical about the NZ teens, me and a friend go running under cover of darkness and dread bumping into a gang of glasgow neds. or vampires. we are also scared of the wampyr.

wheelybug · 14/02/2008 13:15

Yay well done MrsJC !!

I did week 5 , run 2 this morning and it was fine... I can't believe I ran for 8 minutes TWICE !! Bring on the 20 minuter.... (I don't mean that - am still not entirely sure its possible).

Also weighed myself today (my parents popped in en route up the country and I asked them to bring their scales !!). Have lost about half a stone since I last weighed myself which was quite a while ago. Thought it would be more but I suppose its better than nothing and all going in the right direction !

Sauerkraut - I had 6 days off and went straight into the next week and it was fine. You may as well try it and see how you get on ?

LilRedWG · 14/02/2008 13:20

Well done WB! I'm looking at investing in one of you namesakes for DD's 2nd birthday? Do you (or your DCs) have one?

wheelybug · 14/02/2008 13:34

ooh do Lilred. DD had one for her 1st birthday (the small size) and I recently put it away as she was too big for it and yesterday she tried to find it and when I said I'd put it away she said 'but what can I ride on?'. They are fab - get the bigger one though at 2. DD is small and had outgrown the little one by 3.

LilRedWG · 14/02/2008 13:34

Thank you - I think I will try and talk DH into a large one for her birthday

wheelybug · 14/02/2008 13:36

I really think its the most used toy she's ever had so worth the money (We thought about getting dd a bigger one for her 3rd birthday and didn't but kind of wished we had after her comment !).

widgypog · 14/02/2008 17:57

have just done run 3 week 2 and it really puffed me.do you think I should still move on? I dont get hot at all or sweat just get puffed. what do you think?

I really cant believe I am ever going to be able to run longer than 90 secs at a time

AitchTwoOh · 14/02/2008 20:32

oh piss and arseholes!
went out tonight, was so looking forward to it, and during the brisk walk the back of my knee really started hurting. and then the front... boo hiss poo bums and willies.
it slackened off while we were wnalking home so we went for a walk instead but still... i wanted to see if i could do week 3. what's going to happen to me? am i kicked off the thread?

SauerKraut · 14/02/2008 20:39

Aitch, I have had this and carried on anyway, just with a lot more walking than running. It sorted itself out after a while, and at night I rubbed in some anti-inflammatory cream. Dh back from Russia soon, to relieve me from invalid duty, so shall be attempting to pick up again at the weekend.
