Is this a cold sore on 6yo? Worried I've passed virus to him *pic included*

Hi, I'm really stressing. I carry the HSV-1 virus (genitally thought unfortunately). I never have passed it on to anyone i know of, including my DH of 9 years. I had a flare up last week and yesterday my 6yo woke up with this. It looks wet because I've applied cream to it. It's not changed in appearance today
I'm really stressing that I've somehow passed the virus on although I'm so careful I'm not sure how I would have.
Does this look like a coldsore?
Thanks 😔

Unfortunately it looks like it OP.

Contact the GP tomorrow to double check.

Wowzel · 16/01/2022 10:03

Yes, i think so.

That or the start of impetigo

KiloWhat · 16/01/2022 10:03

Yeah I think so

Plump82 · 16/01/2022 10:05

I suffer with cold sores and don't actually think it does look like one. Is there blisters? To be it looks like he's had a crack at the corner of his mouth and has been licking at it.

dementedpixie · 16/01/2022 10:05

Could be impetigo

MilkshakesForAll · 16/01/2022 10:06

Aaah. poor you and poor DS. yes, call the GP to check. But, it';s not your fault. Thanks . It is such a virulent virus and might not have even been passed by you anyway. I have cold sores also (mouth and nose) and understand. I have no idea how I originally got my infection. I have had them since very young, and neither my parents or my sister gets them.

Kara198 · 16/01/2022 10:07

There aren't any blisters that I can see,not as in the crusty looking ones. The skin is broken in places and very red but non of the yellow type pus.

Any advice appreciated. Thank you

Yes and that. Mine are awful blisters on my mouth first.
BeHereNowx32 · 16/01/2022 10:08

I think it could look more like impetigo, especially if no blisters.

Kara198 · 16/01/2022 10:08

To make it worse, it's his birthday party this afternoon and he has over 30 kids coming Sad

Cold sores normally start with blisters before scabs so I don't think it's that especially if you have genital herpes rather than oral.

I'd treat as impetigo instead

HadaVerde · 16/01/2022 10:10

Could be impetigo.

ComDummings · 16/01/2022 10:11

That doesn’t look like a cold sore to me either really

Kara198 · 16/01/2022 10:12

Thanks so much, I know nothing about impetigo so off to read up on it now

OP posts:
dementedpixie · 16/01/2022 10:12

Might need antibiotic cream

Viviennemary · 16/01/2022 10:12

Its either a cold sore or Impetigo.

ladyflower23 · 16/01/2022 10:19

I also think that looks like impetigo

Mabelface · 16/01/2022 10:22

Impetigo.

wonderwomen81 · 16/01/2022 10:28

Don't think it looks like a cold sore, it's more on his face than his mouth

Kara198 · 16/01/2022 10:33

Would a pharmacy be able to give us something for it today do you think?

GrowThroughWhatYouGoThrough · 16/01/2022 10:41

It could be hand foot and mouth. I get coldsores and have never had one that starts like that

Roselilly36 · 16/01/2022 10:42

Looks like impetigo to me.

polkadotpixie · 16/01/2022 11:24

It looks more like impetigo to me

myothercarisaskoda · 16/01/2022 13:50

Looks too flat for a cold sore. I get them all the time.

Forestdweller11 · 16/01/2022 14:03

I'm another one who thinks impetigo rather than coldsore.
