Is this a cold sore on 6yo? Worried I've passed virus to him *pic included*

Hi, I'm really stressing. I carry the HSV-1 virus (genitally thought unfortunately). I never have passed it on to anyone i know of, including my DH of 9 years. I had a flare up last week and yesterday my 6yo woke up with this. It looks wet because I've applied cream to it. It's not changed in appearance today
I'm really stressing that I've somehow passed the virus on although I'm so careful I'm not sure how I would have.
Does this look like a coldsore?
Thanks 😔

I'm going with the grain. That looks like impetigo. We had it in our house for weeks and weeks. The kids passed it to and from each other. It's extremely contagious.

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 16/01/2022 14:06

I think it's impetigo and that's contagious.

ElizabethinherGermanGarden · 16/01/2022 14:09

If it's impetigo it will be almost impossible to avoid passing it on a the party - it's one of the ones where you have to keep them home from school for 48 hours after they have started antibiotics. You might need to think again about that. 😞

Oneearringlost · 16/01/2022 14:13

I'd be pretty sure that's impetigo.

Laney39 · 16/01/2022 14:24

My 7 year old has cold sores since she was 3. The first attack of then was awful on her face and inside her mouth. After that she just got regular ones so ifs not impetigo it could be a bad first attack. Hope he's OK for his party xx I use cymex on my daughters and that seems to help

caringcarer · 16/01/2022 20:19

Looks like it to me.

Jitters22 · 17/01/2022 00:20

If it's impetigo it's no party and no school. It's incredibly infectious

When my daughter had it the doctor said under no circumstances could she mix with other children. I had to take time off work to stay home with her.

I doubt the party yesterday would have been cancelled

Thanks for the advice everyone.
Not sure how bad this is since reading the last comments... went to pharmacy 2hrs before party and explained (took ds). He said impetigo and instructed us to get antiseptic sudocrem to cover it for party and then said kids don't need to stay off school with it now so carry on as normal but take to gp today.
As it happens, the sudocrem seemed to work wonders and by last night it looked 10x better. By this morning it was practically gone so no gp apt has been booked either.
Hoping this was the right call to make

Our school said DS didn't need to stay off as long as he's started a course of treatment. If it's disappeared already I can't see it being impetigo. My DC's got worse and worse by the hour.

Could be peripheral dermatitis it's fungal and caused by licking cracks at the side of mouth - canesten cream can fix, ask a pharmacist.

I have cold sores like this which are clusters of tiny blisters. Not all cold sores look the same.

Ohyesiam · 17/01/2022 22:51

I was told as ac nursing student that is you grow up in a house with someone who gets cold sores, you are likely to develop immunity. My mother gets them and I never have.
