Awful virus!

Is anyone suffering with an awful virus at the moment? It’s absolutely knocked me for six, awful constant chesty cough, sore throat, constant headache , teeth and sinus pain (/agony!) and ulcers on my tongue. It started on Friday and I’ve just gradually got worse- now starting with stomach pain and going off food/ feeling sick (not pregnant)
Obviously done a PCR Covid test and that’s come back negative.
I know there were people saying there was an awful cold going around about a month ago- maybe I’m late to the party but jeez…I feel horrendous!
Does anyone else have the same?

I'm still here struggling . So frustrating now. I'm exhausted! And when I cough my head throbs ! Been for a PCR today with DH and DD because Covid is spreading rapidly through DDs class. I'm glad someone else has said they were feeling sick too because this is happening to me :(

I have this ‘super’ cold as well! Started on Sunday with a cough and lots of mucous and throughout the week I’ve lost my sense of taste&smell, horrendous sinus pressure, blocked but runny nose ect the worst symptoms so far is my hearing is now affected and my ears are blocked- im struggling to hear. I’ve taken LFT’s and a PCR test and all have come back negative.
I’m really struggling with losing almost 3 senses and feeling really low about it. Has anyone experienced the hearing the loss?

Bellabelloo · 04/12/2021 09:16

What's the longest someone's had it for now? I'm over 11 weeks and my GP won't see me.

SerenTarot · 04/12/2021 22:58

I'm definitely on the mend, but still feeling pretty shit.

Wednesday I had a good day, got up did stuff, Thursday I felt horrendous. Yesterday I had a good day, pottered, did a bit of hoovering, today not so good.

Even the smallest amount of effort seems to take it out of you, so anyone on the men, take it slow.

Snozzlemaid · 05/12/2021 00:39

Glad I found this thread. Dd is at uni and seems to have what you're all describing.
Started with vomiting then turned into full blown flu and unable to get out of bed. She then had 2 days where things really improved and yesterday she said she felt 'normal' again and caught up with lots of uni work.
Now today she's been floored again by same symptoms, has been sick again and slept for most of the day.
She has only left her flat once all week so it's unlikely she's picked up a new bug.
Term ends on Friday thankfully so we can get her home to look after her if she's still poorly.

I went to the doctors on Fri for an unrelated blood test,to be told it had been cancelled - staff shortages. I'm standing there weebling in a circle, then the tears started. Absolutely embarrassed. I had barely slept and it took so much to just get there.

I fell into deep hard sleeps that afternoon. Today my cough is much lessened and my wheezing almost gone but the fatigue 😭. I had the quickest shower in the world today and thought I was going to pass out. Very very weak. Shaky.

I always seem to end up with post viral fatigue, plus I've a myriad of other health problems and was genuinely in agony today with back pain.

Sorry for whinging. I don't seem to be able to eat a lot and have definitely lost a bit of weight (I'll take it) but yeah. I'm very aware of what I've read here and don't want to slip backwards so I think I'll have to spend tomorrow in bed. I went downstairs tonight instead of bed. I'm sure ill pay tomorrow.

How is everyone? ♥

Inspirationpending · 05/12/2021 06:22

Another member of the super cold tribe
6 weeks in and still have symptoms
Tongue has been so sore for over a week

Have seen a doctor once in the 6 weeks. He’s now saying it’s all post viral
Have made a dentist appointment as at my wits end

Hope everyone is on the mend soon
It’s hideous

Sweetpea84 · 05/12/2021 06:54

Morning all. Going to join you. For the last week I’ve felt fatigued, painful ears when swallowing, sore throat but not a fully sore throat if that makes sense. Loss of appetite I have lost half a stone in a week a headache and aches and pains. My husband and daughter has the same as well might need to admit defeat and take off work tomorrow.

Sweetpea84 · 05/12/2021 06:57

Oh and nausea

Nix32 · 05/12/2021 07:23

@Bellabelloo My husband's had it since the beginning of October. Am actually reassured to find other people who have had it that long, although I'm really sorry you're suffering too.

Antibiotics have done nothing for it. He's really struggling and it's having an impact on his mental health too - exercise is his normal coping strategy and the fact that he can't breathe means he can't exercise. His mental health is very fragile - this virus really needs to go now.

Louisa111 · 05/12/2021 10:31

This virus is awful! Started with tummy pain, feeling sick and off my food. Then ended up with a heavy cold, chesty cough and feeling so tired. My children have had it too and it just doesn't seem to want to go.
We all had covid early oct..that was bad enough but this is so much worse and can't really take any more time off work so trying to plod on Confused

LegoPandemic · 05/12/2021 10:55

Sorry please don’t take it to the dentist 😂 Absolutely nothing we can do for sore tongue or cold and at my practice we wouldn’t allow you in the door if at all unwell.

It’s lingering here too. I felt better and now feel snotty again.

LegoPandemic · 05/12/2021 10:57

Your tongue may be sore due to iron or vitamin B deficiency or that you have a viral illness. Take supplements and once you are otherwise completely better you can see the dentist if still sore.
If you have a mouth ulcer that doesn’t change or heal after 3 weeks we would see you though.

Inspirationpending · 05/12/2021 11:26

Thanks LegoPandemic I’m fully recovered now apart from sore mouth
I’m overdue a clean so just wanted them to check as part of the appointment

Doctor mentioned supplements so I’ve started on those too Smile

INeedSixEggs · 05/12/2021 13:20

DHs sympathy ran out at day three and I'm on week six now with splitting sinus pain today and rattling chest.
Drs prescribed antibiotics for chest infection as I have had pneumonia and pulmonary embolism in the last three years.
It's ruining the run up to Christmas I don't feel well enough for anything or want to risk passing it on. The house is a mess and family and DH constantly going on at me about what to get the kids for Christmas.
On top of looking after twin toddlers and our 6 year old and working part time I am the most miserable I think I've ever felt in my life! Cant imagine having the energy to do anything ever again. I'm only 38!

SerenTarot · 05/12/2021 16:24

Hi all,

Reading all these symptoms, I think I've had every one. Also does anyone else suffer from anxiety? This virus has triggered mine off big time, and I can barely tell what is virus, and what is anxiety. Like others, my appetite is shot to hell and I've lost weight, although when I do eat it goes straight through me.

Anyway, I had my covid booster jab this morning. Nearest place was a town a significant distance from me where they've set up in an empty department store building in the middle of the shopping centre.

I didn't know whether to go or not given how rough I've been feeling, but went on the website earlier this week to cancel and there were no other appointments for the foreseeable and only places there were even further away, and I didn't want to lose my place/location. I checked that it was ok to have the jab with a cold and as I'm two weeks in, I chanced it.

I originally planned to go by train, but knew I couldn't face the walk up and down a steep hill at the other end, so I drove there and back it was ok. Managed to park easily and the centre itself was very well organised and those who had appointments got straight in whereas those who were just drop ins were queueing around the block in the freezing cold. So at least I didn't have to hang about.

So far nothing to report, not even a sore arm and as I didn't have any side effects on the first two jabs I'm hoping this will be the same.

Other than that, still very hoarse and croaky and coughing/nose blowing. I have also managed to do some work (self-employed) since getting home. I just can't shake this edgy, anxious, sense of impending doom feeling all the time which I just hate.

So sorry to hear so many are suffering - it really is an absolute bastard of a virus.

SerenTarot · 06/12/2021 11:48

How is everyone doing today?

Myshitisreal · 06/12/2021 12:01

Hi @serentarot how are you feeling after the booster xx

RainbowBabyForChristmasPlease · 06/12/2021 12:30

I had it back in October. Started off with feeling like I'd gotten a hair caught in the back of my throat but no matter what I did I couldn't shift it and by the afternoon it felt like someone was pouring acid down my throat instead. Then the horrendous sinus pains came in. The burning sensation in my throat was making me cough and I threw up twice the first night. By day 2 my chest felt so tight I had a really bad dry chesty cough and ached all over and in between working I slept pretty much all day. By the 3rd day I felt a little better just had the chesty cough and threw up quite a lot from coughing constantly. I barely had any appetite for around a week though and the cough lasted a good 2-3 weeks. I also did a PCR test because I felt exactly like I did when I'd had my first Covid vaccine. Test was negative.

SerenTarot · 06/12/2021 19:18

@Myshitisreal

Hi *@serentarot* how are you feeling after the booster xx
Fine thanks just the usual slightly sore arm around the injection site.
OwlInBatter · 06/12/2021 19:50

It's been a while since I've had something like this ... 7 years maybe? I don't tend to get colds but I've got 'something' now that's for sure.

Started about 10 days ago. Had a bad nights sleep followed by a couple of days of stomach cramps and feeling cold. This led to 2 days of diarrhoea which died off. And then, on Friday I started to get the start of a cold. And I've got steadily worse. Eyes hurt, face is sore, chest hurts when I cough and I've got classic heavy cold symptoms. Today I lost my sense of smell and taste so I've had a Covid test but don't think it's Covid.

Just trying to rest up. Hope everyone else recovering!

olderandwiserx · 10/12/2021 16:30

This virus is awful I'm on day 11. Two negative lft and one negative pcr. It's so bad I can't even consider it a cold. I've had sneezing, dry cough, chesty cough, stomach pains, temperature, gum aching, exhaustion, sinus pain and pressure and off my food. I've been stuck in the house with my toddler who's now caught it for almost two weeks, I have asthma so have had to up my inhalers and have been given a course of antibiotics in case it's an infection but I don't want to take them unless I really have to. Anyone know what virus it is? I can't believe it's a cold, it's the poorliest I've ever been for such a long time x

NoRegerts · 10/12/2021 20:27

Another one here!
I'm on day 10 I think and literally feel no better than Day 1. Negative PCR and LFTs. I've had a temperature all that time, only goes down to 37.6 with Ibuprofen. Rattling chest, so much mucus it's revolting, a cough which puts me on the verge of throwing up and so so tired. So grim. Dr gave me antibiotics 3 days ago but they've made no difference at all so I presume it is just one of the worst viruses I've ever had.
Relieved to find this thread, but sympathies to those who've had it too.

SerenTarot · 11/12/2021 19:19

So sorry to hear that @NoRegrets.

You sound pretty much like me, only I'm a few days ahead.

I never had a temperature at any point but the whole rattling chest/mucus thing I totally relate to. I'm three weeks in and the chest/mucus (and mainly being unable to clear it, no matter how much I cough) is the lingering issue.

I did think of contacting the doctor but unlike my son and my neighbour my mucus/phlegm (sorry about TMI) has remained clear, whereas theirs was apparently the colour of freshly mown grass Confused ... so I'm assuming I'm infection free in that regard.

The good news is I enjoyed a meal for the first time in three weeks last night. I didn't have any appetite at all when I started eating it, but I ended up eating a good amount, I actually tasted and enjoyed it, and no stomach ache or feeling queasy or anything afterwards. The first proper meal I've had in three weeks.

Main issue is just lingering gunk on chest which coughing doesn't seem to clear, but apart from that, fingers crossed, I do think I'm on the mend.

AnyFucker · 12/12/2021 08:09

Has anybody found any medication that actually helps the hard, dry cough ? I am suffering here with lack of sleep, exhaustion and pulled muscles in my ribs from constant pointless coughing.
