Awful virus!

Is anyone suffering with an awful virus at the moment? It’s absolutely knocked me for six, awful constant chesty cough, sore throat, constant headache , teeth and sinus pain (/agony!) and ulcers on my tongue. It started on Friday and I’ve just gradually got worse- now starting with stomach pain and going off food/ feeling sick (not pregnant)
Obviously done a PCR Covid test and that’s come back negative.
I know there were people saying there was an awful cold going around about a month ago- maybe I’m late to the party but jeez…I feel horrendous!
Does anyone else have the same?

Oh and I am binge watching Private Practice from the beginning on Disney. Never seen it despite being a Gray’s fan. It’s keeping me sane.

I am on day ten. GP gave me steroids and antibiotics as he thought it was a bad chest infection. The meds have made absolutely no difference, so it is definitely a virus. The coughing is like nothing I have ever had and very painful. I wet myself coughing and had to change the sheets in the middle of the night. I nearly cried as I have no easy way to dry them.
Heart rate is high and I feel weak.
What is it, people?

Pascal80 · 25/11/2021 15:55

OP sorry I forgot to mention I also have mouth and toungue sores and sore teeth you talked about.

MrsLeclerc · 25/11/2021 18:52

We’ve had this for over a week too. DH thought he was better on Friday but Saturday night he started getting worse again. His is mainly a cough.

DS (3) has had a chesty cough since September (he had antibiotics and the GP saw him after he finished them and said his chest was now clear).

I have had enough phlegm to sink the Titanic, and the worst post nasal drip. I thought my sore throat disappeared a few days ago but it was back with a vengeance this morning. I never get coughs but I’ve had a dry one for ages.

This just feels never ending!

Jellykat · 25/11/2021 19:01

Yes i had it for 3 weeks, got rid of it for 10 days and its back.. I've got to go to work tomorrow in a cold gallery, and Saturday doing a 5 bed holiday let clean Sad how the hell am i going to make it?

FlyingFlamingo · 25/11/2021 19:02

I have it, even the weird sore teeth - that was my only symptom at first, I nearly made a dental appointment because it was so strange! Then the cough started - I went for a PCR which was negative. Then I felt better for a few days then the nausea and abdominal pain started, then the blocked nose and the cough came back. I can’t warm up at all either, my eyes hurt and I’m so tired. I’ve done another PCR today but I’ve had Covid and this isn’t the same at all.

onlyreadingneverposting8 · 25/11/2021 20:49

I think my son had this. He's immunocompromised and after a week required antibiotics and antifungals to sort his mouth out. He lost 8kg with it.

earsup · 25/11/2021 23:23

I found that this one leaves you with post viral fatigue and yes it does seem to make a return....its the virus that keeps on giving...i wish there was some medication to take...an anti viral thing..?

FlyingFlamingo · 26/11/2021 08:06

Today’s fun new symptoms are a sore throat and headache Sad

SerenTarot · 26/11/2021 12:42

Hi all,

Was violently sick last night after I'd just taken a couple of paracetamol.
It got rid of my stomach ache but I barely slept a wink after that.

The cough is off the charts and so painful to cough. My throat is also doubly sore due to vomiting.

I ache all over and feel like utter shite. It's really scared me. I always thought if I got COVID I'd sail through but now I'm not so sure. If a cold can do this.

Hope everyone gets some relief today and starts to pick up.

BlueShirtGirl · 26/11/2021 18:56

Oh god! My people!! I feel absolutely terrible and can’t help but think if I were an animal they’d put me down!!! Day 5 here…

Badgerstmary · 26/11/2021 20:38

Yes, I’ve been ill most of the time since the beginning of October. I rang the gp today & he has prescribed antibiotics so hopefully they’ll work. I work in a preschool & I have never known a year with so many constantly poorly little children.

Bellabelloo · 26/11/2021 20:43

@Goofbawl I've had the same. I've been sick for 10 weeks now. Wheezy and coughing so much that I have a constant headache. I am so exhausted and run down. Just want it to go....

AgentCustard · 26/11/2021 21:19

@SerenTarot
How is everyone doing with the not COVID virus from hell?

PCR was negative, so not Covid and definitely hellish. Like others I’m wondering how on earth I’d cope with actual Covid if this is ‘just’ a cold 😬
Must be Day 9 now - I feel ok if I just sit around.
Sending you all lots of healing vibes.

Goofbawl · 26/11/2021 22:27

@Bellabelloo I think my sore throat was linked to drinking alcohol. I hadn’t drunk any for 3 weeks whilst I was ill/on antibiotics and then I had a rum and coke and the sore throat started. Had a glass of Prosecco a few nights later and had a sore throat again the next day. Think it’s my body telling me it’s still not 100%
@SerenTarot that sounds bloody awful but in my experience these things going round are almost as bad as Covid, so it won’t necessarily be any worse. Didn’t put that very well - just trying to say you shouldn’t minimise how you’re feeling/worry too much about catching Covid! Hope you’re better soon Flowers

SerenTarot · 27/11/2021 00:15

My daughter said she saw something online that said RIP THE COMMON COLD.

Apparently because we've all been so isolated and being much more careful with hand washing, surfaces etc. It's only the really powerful viruses that are getting through which is apparently why this is so much worse than any cold I've ever experienced.

I have explained that very well but it made sense when she said it (she's a physics/chemistry/biology teacher).

Sorry for being so garbled but hopefully you get the gist.

toastfiend · 27/11/2021 00:17

Yes, my whole household are down with it at the moment. It's really knocked us for six. I feel like I'm coming out the other side now, but it's been a good couple of weeks of feeling rotten.

TreaslakeandBack · 27/11/2021 13:08

I feel a bit better today, day 8. Re thinking going to my works Christmas party because it will be a germ fest!

GreenClock · 27/11/2021 22:06

It’s Saturday night now and I’ve had it since Tuesday morning. It’s awful. The coughing is unbelievable. It’s a long time since I’ve felt this unwell. Luckily, no stomach problems here though.

Theturnofthepoo · 28/11/2021 15:54

Ugh I’ve got this, I had the same thing 2 weeks ago so I don’t know if I didn’t quite fight it off or if it another one!! Awful, I never get chesty colds they are usually gone before my chest is involved but both of these have left me breathless and coughing on and off all day. Negative pcrs. Is it because we have lost immunity or something? Hope it shifts for everyone soon grrrr- from my bed/ plague nest Brew Daffodil

chickensaresafehere · 28/11/2021 21:05

Another one here with it. Started out like a normal cold, seemed to start to get over it,then 8 days in Ifeel just awful,I'm so bloody tired, can't stop blowing thick, green snot out of my nose constantly & chesty cough.
Went into work last week (TA in a school) as I was feeling a bit better but don't think I'll be going in tomorrow. All my LET'S have been negative too.
Just want to feel normal again !!

Bellabatwings · 28/11/2021 22:52

I’m glad i found this thread as i’m fed up listening to myself moaning about how bad i feel, so its good (in a way) to know i’m not alone!

Mine started two weeks ago, sneezing, sinus pain, headache and has built up to the worst cold i have ever had (feels almost as bad as when i had swine flu!)
I have been on holiday from work for two weeks and in one way i’m thankful but oh my god what a waste of two weeks off!!
All the plans i had went out the window, the tiredness, coughing, breathlessness, headaches, upset stomach etc have been vile!!
The only thing helping is covonia night time and a wheat bag warmed in the micro and lay against my chest!
I’m back to work tomorow but could do with another week off as i’m wiped out.

SerenTarot · 29/11/2021 11:44

Feeling very slightly better today after 6 days since this started, so hopefully 🙏 it's easing off a bit.

Hope others are doing ok.

awonderfuladventure · 29/11/2021 14:27

Joining the nasty virus club here,
Had Covid in October and was bed ridden with it. Had colds before and after it. Now struggling to get out of bed with a new virus, it's a strange one as the main symptoms are extreme fatigue and a sore throat but not the usual painful tonsils, more like when you jump in the sea and water goes up your nose, that sort of feeling. Also was v shivery last night in bed. Very strange.
Feel terrible being off work again so soon after Covid. Get well soon everyone.

Appleseesaw · 29/11/2021 14:45

Can I join? I’ve had a not Covid virus for weeks. My nose is bunged up, but keeps running. I’m very tired and just feel awful. Ive now got weird mild tooth pain. Googling indicates it may be sinus related.
