Awful virus!

Ellie1311 · 23/11/2021 17:08

Is anyone suffering with an awful virus at the moment? It’s absolutely knocked me for six, awful constant chesty cough, sore throat, constant headache , teeth and sinus pain (/agony!) and ulcers on my tongue. It started on Friday and I’ve just gradually got worse- now starting with stomach pain and going off food/ feeling sick (not pregnant)
Obviously done a PCR Covid test and that’s come back negative.
I know there were people saying there was an awful cold going around about a month ago- maybe I’m late to the party but jeez…I feel horrendous!
Does anyone else have the same?

Is anyone else’s following the pattern of seeming like it’s stopped after a week and started again?

I keep thinking how can I have the exact same awful cold twice? Same pattern sore throat, funny ears popping, a day or less runny nose, then bone tired almost on a par with the flu! Then after 2 days on my chest barking cough then chesty. Never had anything like this feel so rough.

Theturnofthepoo · 29/11/2021 15:09

Also get well soon everyone Brew

GaiusHelenMohiam · 29/11/2021 15:11

Omg this is exactly what I’ve got, and I was cursing my luck for having D&V after over a week of a hideous cough and cold.

Looks like it may all be the same bug 😷😢

YES!!! Felt better after a few days, then started again with a sore throat, blocked nose, chesty cough & no energy, just so tired. Thought it was because I'd soldiered on last week, gone to work & tried to get on with it but Saturday morning, felt dreadful again. So not in work today or tomorrow to try & rest & get over it. Its just horrible 😞

This is what happened to my son.

He was off work for a week, then went back for a week, then back it came with a vengeance and second time around has lasted 9 days and counting. He, like me has been in bed all day other than to go to the loo or fetch a drink

Myshitisreal · 29/11/2021 19:44

I think I might have found my "not covid" friends.

I started coughing last Monday and by Monday night it had gone into my chest - "that happened so quickly.

I've been in bed since then, maybe downstairs once a day. I'm absolutely slaughtered with exhaustion. I have a little sniffle but not too bad. Had sores in my mouth a few days.

The wheezing is the worst. I'm wheezing just lying still watching tv. The doctor gave me an inhaler and nebulizer (no asthma history). It makes me feel odd but I'm taking it. I didn't get to sleep until 8am 😭. My cough has eased a little but it's still very dry /catchy.

I'm a bit hungry but don't have my usual appetite and things taste a bit odd. Sounds like I've been lucky compared to some

Baker90 · 29/11/2021 19:47

Yup at the 3 week mark. Can't remember last time I've been this ill, let alone for this long.

Purplepeoniesdroppingpetals · 29/11/2021 19:55

Yep had it as soon as I downed tools end of last half term and was ill with all of that stuff until the middle of the week after, with a chest infection. Our school staff are laid low with either Covid or this bug and it’s been absolutely horrendous.

Myshitisreal · 29/11/2021 20:00

I have had my hair in the same french plait at least 8 days 🤯. I have big black eye circles. I went to the postbox today (tester walk to assess am i really this bad) and I've had to have a nap.

Myshitisreal · 29/11/2021 20:16

Sorry, keep forgetting the point. I'm a bit staggery - anyone feel the same?

Not so much staggery but very weak. Just going downstairs, making a drink, folding up a couple of bits of laundry and I'm knackered.

Had to put the recycling bin out for collection tomorrow and afterwards my heart was pounding and I thought I was going to collapse.

I would get up and get dressed but the physical exertion in doing so is too much. I'm gearing myself up to standing in the shower and changing my nightie etc. Because I desperately need to freshen up but I'm not looking forward to the effort involved.

The only thing I can compare this too is when I had glandular fever 15 years ago Same feeling of being wiped out by the smallest effort.

RubyTuesday70 · 29/11/2021 20:51

DH is on his 3rd week of this, and I made him ring our surgery today as he's got atrial fibrilation and his heart rate has been horrendous all weekend. GP wasn't happy at all to see him, but eventually examined him in the car park (in spite of neg LFT's and a PCR) and said he's got lots of lung crackles and looked quite poorly so they gave him a 5 day course of amoxicillin.

I don't think I've ever known him to be so run down and fed up...... and I'm getting a bit tired of the Darth Vader breathing Blush

ExplodingCarrots · 29/11/2021 21:03

Hi, I'm here to join the club !
I'm on week 3. Week 1 I felt slightly run down and that feeling a cold was coming that wouldn't come out . Week 2 it came out with a vengeance. Sore throat , bunged up, sinus pain , headache, chest on fire and coughing . Week 3 , starts to feel better , but you're lead into a false sense of security . One day you feel fine and you think finally it's going and then the next day it hits you in the face again. I'm having that day today. Headache , sinus pain , bleeding nose and falling asleep at 1pm !
Done numerous Covid tests and all negative.

earsup · 29/11/2021 21:14

I still have the fatigue and sligthly painful glands in groin area...have a real gp appnt on weds...going to arrange blood tests and maybe scan on the gland area...and check my throat....had another session of acupuncture today...the sore throat went in an hour....could just be post viral fatigue which is not uncommon.

lazymum99 · 01/12/2021 12:23

Found you all.
I’m on my third week of this. Started off like the beginning of a cold with an evil post nasal drip. Then must have gone to my larynx as I list my voice completely. That started to improve and then this week stuffed nose, blocked sinus, and 2 days of unbelievable nausea. Thank goodness the nausea has eased. But I’m exhausted.
No temperature. Negative covid tests

SerenTarot · 01/12/2021 14:31

Wow this thing is really nasty. Reading the comments on here and talking to people in real life, one of the most scary things about it, is how long it sticks around, and even seems to go and then come back.

This is my first day since last Tuesday of being 'up'. I am actually sitting at my computer and have made my bed for the first time in a week! I really want to change all the sheets but don't have the energy. That will have to wait for another day.

But at least I'm up and dressed and catching up on a bit of work. I'd like to venture out to the shop later, but we'll see how that one goes. Still got cough but nowhere near as bad. Main problem at the moment is how the smallest bit of physical effort leaves me exhausted, heart pounding so have to sit/lay down for a bit. Baby steps though.

Hope some of the others who posted early on the thread are on the mend and to any newbies, look after yourselves! It's a bugger.

Katieandthekids · 01/12/2021 14:37

@Ellie1311

Gosh I’m so sorry everyone! I’ve been couch bound since the weekend can’t believe it’s nearly a week later and I feel NO better!…my other half has had to leave work early to pick the kids up from school and nursery every day as i just can’t muster up any energy to even leave the house. I dread to think what I’d be like if I actually caught Covid! Hope you all feel better soon
You would probably feel a lot less sick than this. Especially if vaxxed. Friend caught Covid, flu and the super cold all within the space of two months. Said super cold was the worst. Had had flu and Covid vaccines
Eastie77Returns · 01/12/2021 15:06

Found my tribe! Day 6 of my non Covid horrendous cold. Urggh. Managed to do the the school run this morning, DP has been coughing for over a week now and couldn’t find the strength, and have been laid up in bed since dreading the pick up. PCRs all negative.

DD is fuming because I can’t take her to Brownies so we have tantrums on top of everything else.

Seren I also read an article written by a Microbiologist explaining that the common cold is a lot worse due to all the anti-Covid measures we’ve taken over the last 18 months. Since we haven’t been exposed to cold viruses as a result of all the measures, “a lack of immunity can build up and may result in surges of respiratory infection in the coming months and years”

I imagine it’s even worse for toddlers who were barely in nursery/play centres in 2020, no exposure to all the snotty germ filled delights of those settings and have built up zero immunity.

Fun times.

Myshitisreal · 01/12/2021 15:18

@serentarot maybe just take it a little easy? You don't want to push yourself too far, and crash and burn . ♥ Just being out of bed is massive.

I really want to change our bed as well. I think my husband might end up doing so 🤞

I've no temperature but do at times. I'm still taking the nebulizer and still wheezy although it's slightly better.

I've had a second negative covid test.

The doctor is giving me antibiotics.

Im actually hoping to go downstairs to watch bake off final tonight with my husband!

Definitely very dizzy. Feel like a weeble. Must catch up with everyone else

SerenTarot · 02/12/2021 15:35

How's everyone doing?

earsup · 02/12/2021 16:22

Mine has gone but still a bit tired...and glands around ears and groin a little discomfort...have seen doctors...he has eliminated anything nasty or sinister and now have blood tests booked for dec 17th just to check if anything else causing fatigue...feeling lots better compared to last week tho....but...now feel i have another cold coming...will go to yoga later and see how i feel.....just checked my acupuncture appointments....have been ill on and off since Sept 10th...!!

Myshitisreal · 02/12/2021 17:58

@serentarot how are you after your activities? I hope it wasn't too much for you. How is today?

@earsup that's great you're getting blood tests. Hope yoga is restorative. I'm getting bloods done tomorrow for a different reason so will be interesting

I feel like I might have turned a corner today 🤞. Not Amazing but the dizziness has lessened. I've put recycling out and done some very basic chores but I'm back in bed waiting on my husband to help me strip the bed. Think I'd get lost in a sea of blankets 😂

I'm due to work Saturday and I just can't figure it out .. Scared of pushing too quick and relapsing.

SerenTarot · 02/12/2021 19:32

@Myshitisreal. Excuse my language, but fucking awful!

Really bad today, it's actually frightened me. Couldn't get out of bed, when I did I felt spaced out and nauseous all day. And dog tired. Just exhausted. Also keep getting these awful chills, like waves of fear. Can't figure out if it's anxiety (which I'm prone to) from feeling so shit, or the actual virus.

And the coughing is just awful today. It's like my lungs have dried up, and I can't cough up the gunk, which I know is still there.

I went out to the bins earlier and saw my neighbour. She's had it for about 11 days, virtually symptom by symptom the same as me.

My sympathies go out to anyone who has had this, still has it, or is about to get it.

YourTruthorMine · 02/12/2021 22:20

I've stopped peeing myself, so looks like I'm on the mend, after 4 weeks!

True...tests might find something...but doctor wasn't confident....Yoga was tough...felt a bit dizzy after an hour so didn't do much for rest of the class...and now have a headache....but not sure if its another cold....will find out tomorrow...
see how you feel about going into work....i felt almost normal yesterday and went out for dinner etc...had forgotten what it was like to feel well...!!
