To call an ambulance

So back story, stage 4 endometriosis
Fun. Def not pg.

Day 9 of incredibly heavy period.
Worse within last 48hrs
Incredible worse within last 18 hrs.

Blood pouring out, like a constant trickle but passing huge clots, some size of my palm with 'contractions'.

Totally saturated pad within 20mins.
Saturated pad plus through period pants in 1hr while asleep.

Obs 5.30am

2x Tranexamic acid
BP 98/77
Temp 35.4 / too low to read
Oxygen 96
HB1 110

Feeling a bit (very) shakey, dizzy, sick and a bit breathless.

On my own with my DS, 20 miles from hospital, no 111 service, have called On Call Doctor but no return call yet - 45mins

Im just scared that im going to pass out & DS will have to deal with it.

YABU - wait for call back / GP opening

YANBU - 999

Thanks

Hope you are getting the right care now. Wishing you a speedy recovery.

Kittykat93 · 18/10/2021 07:56

Honestly can't believe you didn't know whether to get urgent help, you are literally bleeding out to the point of being Shakey and sick, this amount of blood loss is very serious and a quick Google would have confirmed this rather than waiting for responses on here, Glad you are being seen.

Laila747 · 18/10/2021 08:07

Poor you OP. My daughter suffers with endo too. It’s horrible and not many people truly understand the pain and suffering that go with it.
I hope you were seen quickly and are feeling better 💐

LowlyTheWorm · 18/10/2021 08:13

@Beseen22 how were you calculating that? Genuinely asking not being snippy. I got it as a two- 1 for BP and 1 for temp… and wondered also if you can check hb levels at home?
@TableDesk sounds awful and I hope you’re being seen right now and helped.

Star81 · 18/10/2021 08:34

Because so many people abuse A&E, there is a mindset amongst the more logical and educated of us, that we don't want to be a bother.

Also, sometimes the worse you are feeling the more you convince yourself it has to improve soon.

Some women have constantly heavy periods and can bleed through a nighttime towel in an hour. I don’t think it is unreasonable that ops underlying condition made if confusing as to whether this was an extra bad period or a medical emergency. But hopefully she is getting the help she needs now.

I'm a paramedic and my advice would be to ring either 999 or 111. It makes no difference because if you're sick enough for ambulance, 111 dispatches one anyway. You don't automatically get an ambulance with either, as you will be triaged over the phone. If they think you require an ambulance, they'll send one. If they think you don't need one, they won't. There's no point in agonising about whether calling is right thing to do. If you call, they'll make decision as to whether you get one or not

Beseen22 · 18/10/2021 08:56

@lowlytheworm

2 for BP, 1/2 for tachycardia (sitting on the borderline) and 1 for temperature = 4. Also describing shortness of breath but no respiratory rate noted.
You can get hb levels checked with a GP but she has shortness of breath, dizziness, tachycardia which would be symptomatic of anemia.

Im hoping when all admitted it has been a baseline low BP and anxiety related heart rate and poor thermometer temperature and all fine and I really hope OP is feeling much better now but I do think someone feeling as unwell as OP should have an urgent medical r/v. I understand how busy A&E is but someone who has OPs circumstances definitely should be seen, as the 111 adviser who triaged her told her to do.

Purplewithred · 18/10/2021 09:00

News2 - 2 for BP, 1 for pulse, 1 for temp = 4

This should be pinned somewhere.
Backtomyoldname · 18/10/2021 09:14

Call.

From my experience feeling dizzy from blood loss is taken seriously. I had a serious and long lasting nosebleed.

Took myself to A+E. Quick triage then straight in.

FindingMeno · 18/10/2021 09:21

Sending best wishes to you and hoping ds is OK too.
Thank goodness for wonderful grandparents.
How scary that it's so impossible to get ambulances in a short time frame.

I agree with @thingymaboob. This needs to be pinned and repeated.

This winter is going to be difficult as far as getting an ambulance, so I'd suggest people talk to family/friends/neighbours about taking each other, minding kids etc if necessary, so you have some kind of plan in place.

@TableDesk. I hope you are already feeling much better. Never hesitate to call 999, as thingamyboob says, let them decide what action to take. Big hugs for you and DS X

EmmaMaya · 18/10/2021 09:40

I hope you have been seen, such a scary night you have had x
