GIVING BLOOD - can you give me the full (gory) details of how you donate blood? I am a wuss and need a virtual slap round the chops.

Brilliant - GOOD LUCK! You should be fine to drive afterwards, even if you feel wobbly immediately after, a cup of tea and a biscuit and a few minutes to calm down should sort you out. You may well be surprised how fine you feel, you might be on a real high because you are so proud of yourself! Let us know how it goes, you are an absolute star for doing this even though you're worried, it's people like you what makes a real difference.

Do it lying down!

Just ask them to recline you all the way.

Once teh needle's in it's a doddle.

I'm the universal donor, O positive, so I've given loads.

Not recently because of some health issues, but plan on getting back to it as soon as.

My dad's given so much he's even got a little medal after a certain number of pints.

Just do it!

Just let 'em know you're nervous and they'll take your mind off it.

I still feel faint EVERY time I get any sort of jab - and I've had well over a hundred by now - and just take it all lying down.

But you don't feel it really, after the needle's in.

I just don't look at it.

BRAVO, YP!

You're a star!

blousy · 13/12/2007 13:25

Good for you YP!! You should be very proud of yourself..
I went yesterday (26th time ).
One of my old school friends has recently had a baby and had to be given 25 units of blood!! (That's a whole other story...)
If people like you (and me ) didn't donate she wouldn't be here now..

Sidge · 13/12/2007 13:31

Well done YP!!

You are a star. Here, have a sticker

Nothing to it really is there?
