Please do it

You will have a real boost of pride when you come home

Think of it as your Christmas pressie to the world

Carnival · 05/12/2007 15:38

I'm on my 25th donation.

You'll be fine, the nurses are usually brill. I would take someone with you the first time, it'll be more 'fun' cos you can chat about it.
CSB is right, make sure you eat well beforehand and enjoy your biccy and well-earned cup of juice (no coffee or tea first time) afterwards.

Good luck!

SlubbersRingAreYouListening · 05/12/2007 15:41

Just imagine Sean Bean is sitting at your side, telling you how you are helping to save a life (which you are) in his orgasmically yummy sheffield accent.

Imagine him giving you a biscuit as well, maybe he does not have his underpants on (Sharpe and/or Lady Chatterl;y's lover stylee).

He is giving you a cup of tea in full Lord of the Rings regalia (plus sheild), and saying thank you with his lovely voice.

YOU KNOW YOU WANT TO.

ChubbyScotsBurd · 05/12/2007 15:42

[licks lips at Slubber's suggestion]

Sidge · 05/12/2007 15:45

Tell the nurses how nervous you are and they will look after you. They are fab.

Please do think about going and giving blood - I think the anticipation is worse than actually doing it!

I have given blood for years, I am O neg so anyone can have my blood Also my DD2 had 2 transfusions as a baby which saved her life. Giving blood is an amazing thing to do and the biccies are yummy too. (But I agree the cake thing would really swing it for me...)

Sidge · 05/12/2007 15:47

PMSL at Slubbers suggestion. Maybe you need to get the Blood Sevices PR people onto that? They'd be queueing up down the street!

SlubbersRingAreYouListening · 05/12/2007 16:07

They need Sean Bean piped through on a loop, saying thankful things and cake. And not just any old dry sponge, moist cake.

and maybe a picture of seans buttocks (signed) when you left. There could be a series you could collect with every visit......

systemsaddict · 05/12/2007 16:09

I have always found it much much less uncomfortable than having a drip - after the first scratch you don't feel it, whereas with a drip I always knew it was there

ChubbyScotsBurd · 05/12/2007 16:11

mmmmmSean Bean ... mmmmmmmmoist .... [drools]

Yes deffo tkae a book cos you may have to wait anyway

dayofftomorrow · 05/12/2007 16:32

The other plus point is that you get a chance to lie and do nothing for 15 minutes and not feel guilty about it as you are doing something positive.

Carnival · 06/12/2007 11:25

Will you let us know how you get on?

Plus points:

you get to do something great for others, possibly even a wee baby

you get to feel all proud of yourself

you can get a heart-shaped sticker saying, 'I gave blood today' or 'I saved a life' or something

you get to eat biscuits, guilt-free. In fact, a medical person is telling you that you should

AND, you know deep-down that you really want to, or you wouldn't have asked

Go on

DrNortherner · 06/12/2007 21:22

Hey come with me to9 my next session - I'm going next week

NineWurlysDancing · 06/12/2007 21:28

I would love to give blood but for some reason it doesnt agree with me, I always end up light headed, sick and have to lay down. Tried 6 times to give blood. Maybe I will have another go soon, see if i'm still like it.

andfranksentthis · 06/12/2007 22:06

I always faint when the needle comes out! .... I have to make sure i am lying really comfy with my head definitely turned away. Talking helps. And I tell them I usually faint so they are prepared .

but the funny thing is ... 'cause you have a pint of brand new blood in you soon after... you actually feel quite good physically as well as morally..

Go for it...if this squeamish person can do it anyone can.

Wednesday 12 Dec 2007
14:00 to 16:00 and 17:00 to 19:30

What time can you do?

andaRubberDuckinapeartree · 07/12/2007 15:07

I ask for the local anasthetic because I'm a complete wuss, but it does help ... because I can't feel it in my vein, then I relax more and they get the blood more quickly, so win-win in my book.

I also don't look and get really engrossed in a book (a light one so you can read it comfortably holding in the one hand!) so it's a doddle!

andaRubberDuckinapeartree · 07/12/2007 15:08

Oh and I also eat my body weight in biscuits when I'm done... that's always good

I can do 5.00pm, will have ds with me though as dh is working till 6.00pm.

I second the local anasthetic. I get that too.

You are the least wussy person I know. You can do this!

catinthehat · 07/12/2007 19:07

THEY HAVE TUC SANDWICH BISCUITS IN INDIVIDUAL TWO PACKS
I do not see them anywhere else.
They are worth a pint of my blood.
I am not alone in this I believe, judging by the people sitting round the WRVS tea table afterwards gorging themselves.
We are all shallow round my way.

systemsaddict · 08/12/2007 19:41

Where I donate they gave away vouchers for a whole BIG tub of Ben & Jerry's each time for a while - now THAT made it worth doing!
