For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information by following the link at the very bottom of the page

I am eating sunflower seeds.

I had a manicure and pedicure today. This is not very F&V ish but is good for my mood. The pedicure was a birthday present from my sister. The manicure was not.

womblingalong · 28/11/2007 20:56

I posted on the recipe thread

MrsCarrot, I loved your summary - it takes me ages to catch up on this thread every night and that made it nice and easy. I think you should do it every day

Hope everyone is feeling better/ less busy/ less anxious. I have a horrible day tomorrow and should go to bed but am wide awake. Again

Oooo, I'm using lots of emoticons. Probably time to stop typing then...

FrannyandZooey · 29/11/2007 08:32

Oh hoo bloody ray on the birthday table, I missed that. I am delighted for you Boco, will try to catch up later on the thread.

I have eaten 2/3 of a large mango for breakfast. With some raisins. I feel strangely full but this could be due to eating 3 cheese and pickle sandwiches last night about 8.30

TooT I am positive I have posted nut roast recipe before. Will look for it later. Mushroom gravy is just usual type of gravy - fry onions and mushrooms in oil, add flour and cook for about 5 mins, then leave to cool for couple of minutes, add stock and stir in slowly, bring to boil then add seasoning and simmer with lid on for as long as it takes to get to your desired consistency (about 30 mins in this house). The recipe I have says strain but what is the point of that? The lumpy onions and mushrooms are the best bit.

FrannyandZooey · 29/11/2007 08:41

Here is nut roast recipe from another thread. If anyone actually knows where the recipe thread is, instead of just referring to it alluringly, feel free to cut and paste these on there

Nut loaf (all quantities excitingly vague)

Cook onions and mushrooms until nicely browned. Can also add red pepper or in fact anything . Cook brown rice until tender. Mix with a good quantity (probably 1 part nuts to 2 parts rice and 1 part fried onion / mushrooms) of ground or chopped nuts and seeds (ground probably best for 3 year old) - you can get ground almonds in the shops, while cashews, pumpkin and sunflower seeds grind up nicely in a coffee grinder or nut attachment on blender. Add a stock cube mixed with a few tbsp hot water to make a sort of sludge, tom puree, herbs, seasoning, soy sauce etc to taste. Put in loaf tin or oven dish and bake on about GM 5 for about 40 mins.

Sorry this one is so vague but it's a made up one. Just experiment until you find how you like it. You can ring the changes and add different nuts, cooked lentils, grated cheese, other veg, curry spices etc. Great for using up leftovers. The nuts can be pricey but not if bought in bulk or at one of those weigh and save places. Overall with the rice added it makes a cheap meal as you only give a slice of it and then bulk up the meal with veg.

Freezes well and goes nicely with either a simple tomato sauce, boiled pots and green beans, or roast veg and gravy, or cold with salad and mayonnaise. Also nice sliced in a sandwich.

FrannyandZooey · 29/11/2007 08:43

rereading that recipe it is crap, sorry

I don't explain that you have to cook and add brown rice in there (or maybe I do but I can't unravel it)

anyway bung rice in as well, it is nice

Gibb · 29/11/2007 08:53

sounds lovely Franny

Tatties · 29/11/2007 11:35

I went to our local greengrocers yesterday to stock up on fruit. The lady in the shop said it was ok for ds to 'sample' the cherry tomatoes as he was taking such a keen interest. When we left she handed him a big bag of them! He was delighted

We are vegging at home today, both of us full of the cold and I am nursing period pains...

Psychobabble is dd improving yet?

Hello

DS is asleep - second nap in two days

He has a bit of a cold and sore throat so obviously he needs a bit extra. I took him to the park this afternoon and he wilted after about three quarters of an hour.

I nearly had a nap myslef but have resisted.

I've had an apple, two satsumas, dried fruit, red pepper & celery at lunchtime, and just wondering about supper. I should be making soup and I'm not.

pinkspottywellies · 29/11/2007 16:26

Hello. I had a Day Off MN yesterday! I have been doing rather well on the f&v front, but rather less well on exercise Must Do Better.

I'm going to twon tonight and I will buy a metal ladle. I'm having 'the girls' round next week and doing mulled wine. And I can't do that with a plastic ladle can I

hello everyone
Ds had quite a good night & is a little brighter now
Grandma brought him a basket of fruit including heaps of his beloved lychees as a goodbye present which eased the saying goodbye bit a little .
I have never known him willingly stay in bed for so long...he keeps saying 'I am really absolutely not well'

does anyone have a miraculous cure for really chesty coughs?

RobertSmithStoleMyLipstick · 29/11/2007 16:39

Sorry no cure lully (it's me, tiny ape)

Glad he is feeling brighter though

pinkspottywellies · 29/11/2007 16:40

Poor DS Lully No cures I'm afraid but I hope he feels better soon x
