I nursed a lady with terminal cancer in the community and she had morphne with antisickness meds in a driver she was out and about doing christmas shopping and leading an active comfortable life it was a mini miracle and gave her quality of life to enjoy her family whilst she still could. Perhaps it might be worth looking into.

coppertop · 22/11/2007 11:46

Fingers crossed for you and Steve that the new medicine helps. xx

Hi,

I haven't posted on your threads befor. Firstly I am very sorry you and your DH and DC are having to go through this.

I hope the tramadol, helps. I was on tramadol for a while and the only thing I can tell you was that it made me VERY sick and spaced out. I have also been on Co-codomal which was equally bad and made me very spacy and sick. The only benefit was that I was so spaced out I didn't mind being sick!

I now take fairly high does of morphine and I have to say that it really has given me some of my life back. The only problem with it is its addicitve nature which you do have to watch very carefully. The trick is low doses working up untill the pain is managable, hopefully that should be low enough that you are not spaced out.

I really hope the tramadol helps. But please don't worry about morphine or othermeds. Anything is worth a try.

Hope it helps.

onlyjoking9329 · 22/11/2007 14:53

thanks for the wishes and info, Steve is still in pain i would have thought the meds would be working now?
if he doesn't improve i will get the doctor to do a home vist.

StaryNightSky · 22/11/2007 14:58

Tramadol takes about 30mins t get into the system. But the affects can sometimes be cummulative (depending on the dose and halflife) I would get a home visit, sounds likes he needs a bit more.

onlyjoking9329 · 22/11/2007 15:00

he had 2x 50 mg

DaisyNightingale · 22/11/2007 15:04

{{{{hugs}}}}

Maybe best to get the doctor to come out. Don't know about tramadol, but I would've thought it would have started working already.

I hope Steve's pain improves soon.

onlyjoking9329 · 22/11/2007 15:10

i have phoned the doctor and am once again waiting for them to call me back i will insist on a home vist

Hi OJ - I'm another one who hasn't posted on your threads before - but just wanted to say sorry that you are all going through this and send best wishes, prayers and positive thoughts.

that you have to battle with dragon receptionists and doctors reluctant to do home visits on top of everything else that you are going through. Been through it with my father and its draining.

Hope things improve for you both today. I take my hat off to you supporting everyone and getting your children through this.

onlyjoking9329 · 22/11/2007 15:41

doctor will do a vist after his surgery so it will be after 6pm, so if he leaves a prescription i then need to find a late night chemist, meanwhile poor steve is still in pain

OP posts:
StaryNightSky · 22/11/2007 15:45

Should of worked by now.

Get the doctor out, not point suffering for another night.

the doctor will probably be able to give your DH a morphine injection which will help instantly. After that you MAY (Big MAY) have to get the routine established but givent that you have a mac nurse I would have thought that they could do this to save you going back into Hospital which I am sure would not be the best thing for all of you.

Good Luck and I hope you get this sorted. The thing is once the pain is under control I am sure that you will all feel a LOT better.

Take Care xxx

Blandmum · 22/11/2007 15:45

Oh god OJ, seeing them is pain is so awful.

dh has the opposite probelms atm, no pain but we are dealing with an opiate overdone, he is spaced out, twitchy with breathing problems/ problems on urination

onlyjoking9329 · 22/11/2007 16:38

yes you are right MB it is crap just watching them suffer
your poor DH how come he got extra meds?
i think they have a policy of not giving any meds if they can help it here

OP posts:
lissielewzealand · 22/11/2007 19:17

how did it go with the docs?

yurt1 · 22/11/2007 19:22

Miaou · 22/11/2007 20:11

kindersurprise · 22/11/2007 20:17

Sorry to hear that Steve is not doing well today.

Terrible that you have to wait all day for a doctor to see him.

Thinking of you
