Every bone in my body hurts. Could it be the cold?

I am a carer for my mum who lives a few miles away from me. As I am trying to protect her from Covid, I have stopped taking public transport and every day I walk to the shops, then walk to Mum’s, then walk home again. It’s about 7 miles a day.

I was feeling quite good about the amount of exercise I was getting, but the last few days I have been in agony. Literally every bone in my body hurts.

I can’t work out why I am in so much pain. It is keeping me awake at night. Does anybody have any ideas? Could it be the cold? I have noticed the last couple of nights that my legs felt cold to the touch, in spite of having been home in my warm house for a couple of hours.

I would really appreciate any ideas of what it could be. Thanks.

Sounds like you've got a lurgy more than anything else.

MarieFromStTropez · 23/01/2021 19:53

@gamerchick I thought that at first, but I don’t have any other symptoms.

It could just be an accumulative effect if you weren't used to doing this level exercise so regularly and your body saying give me some time to get used to this new regime.

Tbh though, given the recent information about a lot of infections coming from supermarkets, I'd be doing online shopping!

MarieFromStTropez · 23/01/2021 21:24

@MotherExtraordinaire I have been trying to get an online slot for ages and luckily got a shop delivered this evening. I texted Mum to let her know the good news and she texted me back asking if I’d ordered yoghurts which I hadn’t, so I’m still going to have to go to the shops tomorrow.

Are you used to that amount of exercise?

MarieFromStTropez · 23/01/2021 21:36

@grassisjeweled No, not really. Not in this weather anyway.

Covid?
Hearing reports of cold and aching muscles from some positive cases.

MarieFromStTropez · 23/01/2021 21:39

@middleager I did wonder that, but I don’t have any other symptoms.

@namechangedyetagain What happened then? How are you now?

So two things cross my mind. Firstly, yogurts are not essential. She doesn't need them. You should not make extra trips to get them. I'm not saying this as Covid police, but in an attempt to save you needless work.
Secondly, if you have aching bones, you need a day off. Tell her you are ill, will take a day to decide if you need to test and isolate and let her know.

To what extent are you caring for her? Is she totally dependent? Is there a back up plan? You could easily have Covid.

Moondust001 · 23/01/2021 21:50

If this continues until Monday, I would suggest that you speak to your GP. The cold legs could to symptomatic of a number of things including stress. It probably isn't anything serious, but it is better to get medical advice directly when unsure. Diabetes, anaemia and other problems can cause this kind of cold and ache/pain. But anything that causes cold in the extremities for long periods when in a warm building should be checked out.

Same....
Cissyandflora · 23/01/2021 21:54

It could be Covid. The symptoms vary and is affecting different areas of the body. I would assume you have it and stay home.

TwelvePaws · 23/01/2021 21:55

I texted Mum to let her know the good news and she texted me back asking if I’d ordered yoghurts which I hadn’t, so I’m still going to have to go to the shops tomorrow.

Tell your mum that you’re feeling unwell so she’ll have to cope without yogurts. Even if you were not feeling unwell she would be very cheeky if she thinks you should walk 7 miles so that she can have a yogurt !
I hope you’re feeling better soon.

yellowflowers82 · 23/01/2021 21:57

My first symptoms were very achey joint and limbs when I had Covid. I'd get a test.

BettyOBarley · 23/01/2021 21:57

DH's first and main symptom of covid was aching bones; he said his toe joints, knuckles, eye sockets everything just ached so so badly.

sylbunny · 23/01/2021 22:00

I've tested positive for covid this week with just headaches and sinus pain as my symptoms. I only tested because of the Zoe app otherwise I'd never have known. I would get a test booked tomorrow for peace of mind

TheoriginalLEM · 23/01/2021 22:05

Please get a covid test and see if you can arrange alternative care for your mum.

My main symptoms were aching bones , i hurt everywhere

umpteennamechanges · 23/01/2021 22:10

Unless you have other health issues you shouldn't be feeling like that just from walking 7 miles a day in cold weather.

I appreciate its more than most people walk but in the whole scale of things, it's not that far and it's not that cold (I mean relatively speaking in terms of what a fairly healthy human should be able to do easily).

I mean, I'm massively fat and can easily walk 7 miles without it impacting my joints or bones at all, even if every day. I'd have aching leg muscles but not what you're describing.

So I definitely think something is going on...

Bourbanbiscuit · 23/01/2021 22:10

As pp - please book a test, my first symptons were aching legs & joints and later a terrible headache, never had many of the listed symptons, wish you well xx
