What are these lumps on my ankles??

Yesterday morning I noticed a swelling on each ankle, just below the ankle bone. They are squidgy to touch, not hot, not painful, in fact I wouldn't know they are there without looking. I was worried about deep vein thrombosis but NHS website suggests it would most likely be on one side only. I am overweight unfortunately but fairly active and walk most days. Trying to decide whether to bother with 111 or wait until Monday to ring the GP. Anyone ever had this?

Ganglions. Common place for them.

BrandNewShinyThings · 08/08/2020 09:01

Would it be the same on each side with a ganglion? Thank for your speedy reply!

My feet looked like that once after I'd had a plane journey, turns out I had developed high blood pressure, they stayed puffy until I started medication. Obviously yours may be something else entirely but get it checked out. Do they lose puffiness if you put your feet up?

BrandNewShinyThings · 08/08/2020 09:05

They seem to be better in the morning, so to do with laying down all night I guess. Had my blood pressure done not too long ago and it was normal.

itbemay1 · 08/08/2020 09:10

LioneIRichTea · 08/08/2020 09:11

Look swollen to me. My feet always look like that a few days after a plane journey, I s as sways get serious cankles. Envy

BrandNewShinyThings · 08/08/2020 09:12

Not on my feet all day, up and down as usual really, perhaps it is just the heat. I can manage putting my feet up all day, for medical reasons of courseWinkGrin

Looks like fluid. Have you been short of breath lately? Maybe you need to see your GP

Butterflykiss00 · 08/08/2020 09:14

I thought everyone had these lumps? It looks funny because I've been leaning on the carpet btw

Daftapath · 08/08/2020 09:15

I have those. Just my normal ankles!

BeyondMyWits · 08/08/2020 09:18

Since you have had your blood pressure tested normal, to me, it looks like fluid retention - normal swelling after being on your feet a while, especially on a hot day. Put your feet up when you can, lose weight(easier said than done), keep hydrated, go on a low salt diet.

It can get worse with age if you do none of those things.

Thank you. Trying hard to lose the weight, been trying my while life, sigh. Its given me a bit of a push to make a serious effort.

I have had these for a while now, they just seemed to appear and I remember reading it's fat distribution (I definitely need to lose some weight) and not uncommon in women my age (60s).
Unfortunately I can't find the article now so I'll watch this thread with interest in case it's something else!

Interesting. Did you see a GP? Could well be to do with being a fattySad I carry weight on my legs. Flipping heck. Well that's a kick up the bum to put the cake and wine down.

I've had these on both ankles for years ! I was worried at first but were advised they are ganglions.

Oh interesting! Have now googled ganglions, they seem harmless.

Have you ever injured your ankles? I have something similar on both ankles but I have had multiple injuries on both and always assumed it was soft tissue damage or something.

Yes I'm a fatty Grin I haven't seen my doctor as it hasn't caused me any problems.

I tend to save up my ailments then see my gp so I'll
put it on my list to mention to him.

My GP thought mine was caused by being on HRT
