That's it really-am I being paranoid or should I get her checked?
Where and how if yes?

No disrespect meant.

chipmonkey · 03/10/2007 21:00

No worries, Lily, just that you can't generalise, really. I used to work in a Specsavers and my boss there had actually spent his pre-reg year in Moorfields and was very knowlegeable on ocular pathology.

Whooosh · 03/10/2007 21:07

Thank you all for your responses....helps with the paranoia .
Lily I did have similar feelings to you but I guess when it comes to dc's we just want the best/right answer.

My friend whose dd was diagnosed saw a GP (pochaer turned gamekeeper) who spent 10 yrs at Moorfields and never saw a single case-but he picked it up immediately.

Not really sure what I am saying here-just rambling I guess but I had the best news today about a good frien which I am about to post.....

Had dire personal experiences with opticians at vision express, specsavers AND boots. (None could identify/recognise DS's problems, and all 3 misdiagnosed me with kerataconus or beginning cataracts when all that was wrong was that I'm fairly short-sighted,-10 prescription.) Didn't mean to cause any offence, or to generalise - admittedly we don't live in a city, which maybe doesn't help! Think if you live in London Whooosh then hopefully you'll have more luck than we have. Hope things go well.

Whooosh · 03/10/2007 22:53

Oh Lily-how awful-am guessing persistence paid off and all ok now?

I don't want to be fobbed off-I want someone who really knows what they are looking for/at rather than just long/short sightedness.

Shipmonkey-where are you?It may be just as easy to get to you as London.......

OP posts:
chipmonkey · 03/10/2007 23:22

Ireland, Whoosh! Doubt very much it could be easier than London! Could meet you on the Isle of Man, maybe?
Lily, my goodness, I'm not surprised you lost faith in the multiples!

Whooosh · 03/10/2007 23:25

Well Ireland would def be easier that the bleedin' Isle of Man!-Had a friend who lived there once and it really is the @rse (although lovely) end of nowhere.

Must have bored you all rigid by now with this tale-need to get it sorted one way or the other....Moorfields here I come I think although not till next week due to work

chipmonkey · 03/10/2007 23:50

Good luck, Whoosh! Keep us posted!

heavy · 04/10/2007 00:22

what's the latest on your friends little one whoosh?

Whooosh · 04/10/2007 08:24

Thanks for asking Heavy-she had her Hickman line put in last week and had her first dose of chemo. She was very, very sick and unwell for a few days, stopped even drinking then they found out she had tonsillitis and an ear infection.Poor little mite!
Anti-b's have now kicked in,she is eating a bit and drinking again but best of all-smiling.....

Poor little love!

LIZS · 04/10/2007 16:50

binkleandflip is it a dermoid cyst by any chance ? dd has one on her eye.

binkleandflip · 04/10/2007 22:21

no its got a different name which I cant remember... apparently the discolouration of the white of her eye is more commonly seen in black people - its a pigmentation thing.

LIZS · 04/10/2007 22:24

dd has a thicker, whiter patch on the (bluer) white of her eye, slightly overlaps the iris.

Whooosh · 04/10/2007 22:48

Found out today that dd has to go in for a semi-emergeny tonsil/adenoidectomy on Tues-plan to hunt down someone in the Luton and Dunstable who knows how to use and opthalmoscope.......

OP posts:
edam · 04/10/2007 22:54

Oh, poor dd, that is miserable.

Whooosh · 04/10/2007 22:59

Am far from looking forward to it-I know it is the best thing for her in the long run but am dreading it.
Worst bit is she has to be starved from 10am till 5pm-that will be the worst bit I reckon!

OP posts:
chipmonkey · 04/10/2007 23:54

Whoosh, do they have an ophthalmology department? Might be worth ringing ahead and talking to an ophthalmologist and arrange for them to have a look? Poor dd! The starving bit doesn't sound nice. Ds3 would not take kindly to that!

NAB3 · 05/10/2007 10:59

May I suggest given her a little treat before the fasting time? May soften the blow a little.

Pennies · 09/10/2007 19:38

Hi Whoosh, just checked this thread to see if you had any more joy with the GP and saw your last post re. her op today. Hope it all went well.
