poor steve, he looks shattered and has been sick twice. how do i talk him into doing it all again tomorrow?

Poor you and poor him. It must be very hard for all of you but I think honestly you shouldn't put pressure on him if all it's doing is buying him time. We lost a dear friend a couple of years ago in similar circumstances - though he wasn't ill for very long and hadn't suffered a lot of pain as I think you've said Steve has.

Cashncarry · 27/09/2007 23:08

OJ

I've no words of advice as I've no idea what you're going through. But maybe if he gives any sign of not wanting to go, give him a picture of your gorgeous kids to hold onto while he's undergoing the treatment.

Sorry if that's not helpful but I wanted to say I was thinking of you and will think of both of you guys tomorrow xx

controlfreaky2 · 27/09/2007 23:11

lovely bath with lavender oil?
bed with a hottie?
something he would think a treat to look forward to?
hope tomorrow is better for you all.....

Troutpout · 27/09/2007 23:14

Hope tomorrow is easier Oj

onlyjoking9329 · 27/09/2007 23:21

i hope tomorrow is better x

Tiggiwinkle · 27/09/2007 23:35

Sorry he is feeling so rough Oj; perhaps they can try different anti-emetic meds to try and stop the sickness?

He only started being sick at ten o,clock
he had his chemo at 5 o clock.
will mention it to nurse tomorrow

WendyWeber · 27/09/2007 23:50

Sorry it's been such a crap day for him, oj. Being sick so soon after his first treatment isn't going to encourage him to keep going, is it?

Definitely tell the nurse the whole thing about today, they may be able to give him different anti-emetics which will work better for him. Hope so.

dolally · 27/09/2007 23:51

thinking of you and steve, OJ.

how many treatments is he having? Is he likely to be like this after every treatment or is there a chance that the side effects will settle down? Sorry if a stupid question.

onlyjoking9329 · 27/09/2007 23:51

this was steves vist

so we got to hospital at 3.30, appointment 4.10 we saw the radiotherapy
nurse who explained the treatment, i asked her about the chemo tablets that
steve was to start today.
she asked if steve had taken the chemo tabs as he has to have them an hour
before radio.
i told her we haven't been given any chemo meds yet.
so she went off to phone consultant, she came back to say prescription was on
his file from 15th aug when we saw consultant, anyway steve not able to have
chemo til he had blood test, so its 4.30 the blood taking lady has gone home
so have to go to other side of hospital to get bloods done then go to
pharmacy that closes at 4.45, then back to radiology to take ABs anti
sickness and chemos tabs that you are not allowed to touch.
then to sit and wait for an hour then have radiotherapy.
we got home at 7, we get to repeat the process tomorrow and a very unchild
friendly time of 4.25.

aaaarrrrrrgggghhhhh.
steve doesn't do hospitails he doesn't do waiting and he doesn't do tablets.
he does do sick and has been sick four times now

Yes-do mention it. They often have to try different combinations of the drugs to get it right.

onlyjoking9329 · 27/09/2007 23:54

yes they did say they can change the meds but don't know if they will after just one day. i will ask

That visit today was a real fiasco Oj! The sessions are not all scheduled for late afternoon are they?

onlyjoking9329 · 27/09/2007 23:58

all the other 28 appt are now mornings

OP posts:
Tiggiwinkle · 28/09/2007 00:01

Thats good-much better in the mornings! I used to hate having to go late for mine. It gives you a chance to rest afterwards as well.

WendyWeber · 28/09/2007 00:01

When I first had chemo an anti-emetic was included in it (was a back-of-hand job, not tablets) - I think it was Maxolon, anyway it made me really hyper, wide-eyed and buzzy.

The nurse spotted this herself and said it does affect some people like that and they'd take it out of the prescription. I don't know if I got something else instead, but they stopped giving me that straight away.

The fact that this was day one shouldn't stop them rethinking.

Good luck, love

onlyjoking9329 · 28/09/2007 00:02

thats why we wanted mornings that and the small issue of finding child care for our three which is never easy

OP posts:
onlyjoking9329 · 28/09/2007 00:05

wide eyed and buzzy, you sure it wasn't red bull wendy

OP posts:
WendyWeber · 28/09/2007 00:08

Oh, maybe that was it, oj!

well in theory tomorrow should be better as we now have the chemo tabs at home , but he has to wait for a phone call in the morning to say if his blood test is ok to decide if he has chemo again tomorrow
