What's the grown-up word for sleepy-dust?

I've suddenly realised I'm 58 and still using baby-talk to refer to the crusty bits in your eyes when you wake up. All I can find by Googling is 'rheum' - but I've never, ever heard anyone refer to it as that!

What do you call it?

I'd say ' Oh there is a bit of sleep in your eye'.

I’ve only ever heard it referred to as ‘sleep’.

I think the correct name is gound.
We tend to refer to it as crust which isn’t pretty at all.
