Worst ingrown hair cyst I've ever had

alltoomuchrightnow · 21/05/2020 23:38

Pubic one, from shaving. This happens whenever I remove hair from here so I don't do it much, but this time I used rubbing alcohol, and salicyclic acid (since shaving), yet I've ended up with the worst ingrown hair cyst ever.
It hurts to walk, it hurts to sit, and it's very deep under the skin. It's where knickerline rubs, and jeans chafe, I'm having to wear dresses and no knickers, unless I put on knickers to go for a walk, but the pain got too much today and I came back.
Obviously am not going to shave again, and still applying the salicyclic, but the pain is getting worse. Whenever I've had them in past they've been uncomfortable but not painful like this!
In the past they've just gone down on their own... kind of disappeared.
I think this one is going to need a flag on it as will call itself a new country :(
Any ideas on what I can do to speed up healing? Very limited to what I can get from shops obviously, and don't really want to waddle out knickerless!

Do you have any magnesium sulphate? It could help to draw out the hair

alltoomuchrightnow · 21/05/2020 23:57

Just magnesium tablets.
I could ground up aspirin but already got salicyclic in liquid form?

You could try hydrocortisone cream? I managed to get rid of a cyst in my nose Envy by alternating that with an old antibiotic cream.

Gingerkittykat · 22/05/2020 01:43

It sounds like it's serious enough to call the GP tomorrow and get some antibiotics.

Whataloadofshite · 22/05/2020 02:23

Lance it. I've had similar things and the only way to reduce the pain, is reduce the pressure. It'll hurt, but you'll find some relief when it drains.

MrsTerryPratchett · 22/05/2020 02:30

Does it have a head? Hot flannel compress.

Also, are you insane? Why remove hair when it does this?

If it declares independence, see if it'll join the EU and hand out some passports.

sarahcoffeelover · 22/05/2020 02:32

Stop shaving there!! (Do laser hair removal if you must, stops all ingrowns but pricey)

alltoomuchrightnow · 22/05/2020 14:06

I won't shave again! I don't need laser, I don't even grow a full bush, this is why I can't wax! Hairs don't get long enough (dodgy thyroid inhibits hair growth), I just wanted the sensation of being totally smooth for a few days (this doesn't work with a disposable Bic though...ouch!)
MrsTerry, I see your point, it's rare I do this, but because I was wiping with salicyclic acid after, I thought I'd prevent any cysts.
I feel it could declare independence. :(

How do I lance it? Could I heat a needle under a flame?
I dont have any blades

Can you feel a firm lump/module under the skin?

HoppingPavlova · 22/05/2020 14:09

*nodule

alltoomuchrightnow · 22/05/2020 15:05

yes it's very deep under the skin

OP posts:
MrsTerryPratchett · 22/05/2020 15:18

If it's very deep and no head, I wouldn't stick pins in it. You're unlikely to be able to drain it and likely to give yourself a secondary infection.

GP?

Magic32019 · 23/05/2020 20:41

Try a Hot bath with sea salt in may help I get issues with a Bartholin cyst and heat really helps. Also witch hazel maybe worth a shot? Hope it goes down soon x

CocoCorona · 23/05/2020 20:45

You need Skin Doctors Hair No More. I use this all the time before shaving now and it stops ingrown hairs from forming. Even putting a dab on a spot draws the hair out within a few hours. Can you wait a day and order it from Amazon? It’s actually one thing I couldn’t live without now.

CocoCorona · 23/05/2020 20:46

Dont cut it if it’s deep under the skin or you’ll scar yourself badly. Just order the Hair No More and treat it. The hair will draw out and the pus will pop out by itself.

Wauden · 23/05/2020 20:47

Please don't stick a pin in it

sylbunny · 23/05/2020 20:49

Try hydrocoloid plasters

HelloDulling · 23/05/2020 20:50

Magnesium Sulphate ointment from the chemist should draw the pus out.

Theredjellybean · 23/05/2020 20:54

If it is hard lump no head there maybe no pus yet.. The hard lump people think is a lump full of pus is infact swollen tissue due the inflammatory response you get to infection or in the case in growing hair.
If it is big and this painful you need to call nhs 111 who will get you referred to put of hours gp.. You will most likely get a phone consultation and antibiotics.

LetTheSecretOut · 23/05/2020 20:58

I would put a flannel on it as hot as you can bear. Can you actually see the hair?

Ukholidaysaregreat · 23/05/2020 21:00

Wimps! Get thee to sporners corner and stab the hair out with a needle!

catflapuk · 23/05/2020 21:16

Try acnecide which contains benzoyl peroxide. It might dry it out. I find it really effective. Superdrug pharmacy sell it.

TerribleCustomerCervix · 23/05/2020 21:19

Can you ring the out of hours doctor and see if they can give you a prescription, or at least some advice about how to speed things up and alleviate the pain.

FunkyFantasticFudgeball · 23/05/2020 21:27

I had a boil in this area, so painful I couldn't walk. Go to your GP. I needed an antibiotic, it cleared it up in a few days
