Worst ingrown hair cyst I've ever had

alltoomuchrightnow · 21/05/2020 23:38

Pubic one, from shaving. This happens whenever I remove hair from here so I don't do it much, but this time I used rubbing alcohol, and salicyclic acid (since shaving), yet I've ended up with the worst ingrown hair cyst ever.
It hurts to walk, it hurts to sit, and it's very deep under the skin. It's where knickerline rubs, and jeans chafe, I'm having to wear dresses and no knickers, unless I put on knickers to go for a walk, but the pain got too much today and I came back.
Obviously am not going to shave again, and still applying the salicyclic, but the pain is getting worse. Whenever I've had them in past they've been uncomfortable but not painful like this!
In the past they've just gone down on their own... kind of disappeared.
I think this one is going to need a flag on it as will call itself a new country :(
Any ideas on what I can do to speed up healing? Very limited to what I can get from shops obviously, and don't really want to waddle out knickerless!

Gah! Where's the obligatory photo!?! And yes, sporners corner. And a photo if it's possible to cover your dignity of course.

Ernieshere · 23/05/2020 21:32

Oooh hot flannel it Sad

LuluJakey1 · 23/05/2020 21:36

Anti-inflammatory painkillers will help and I would phone the GP. You can buy magnesium sulphate paste at Sainsbury's pharmacy. It is really useful and inexpensive.

Thighdentitycrisis · 23/05/2020 21:36

can you perhaps telephone your local pharmacist where you were headed for earlier for a consultation?

QuitMoaning · 23/05/2020 21:39

Another vote for magnesium sulphate. It isn’t branded so it is much cheaper than branded products and is amazing stuff. Chemists sell it so get some and try it, very little to lose.

Ginfordinner · 23/05/2020 21:40

yes it's very deep under the skin

It could be an abscess. I had one about 6 years ago that must have come from shaving my bikini line. I was very ill with it because the infection had started to spread. I lost half a stone in a week. I think you might need to get a telephone GP appointment.

noodlezoodle · 23/05/2020 21:43

Hot bath (which may bring it to a head) and GP appointment because you may well need antiobiotics.

There's a slim chance it's not an ingrown hair but could be Hydredenitis Supparativa. That causes deep cysts in groin and/or armpit hair bearing areas and is spectacularly painful. Plus doctors are generally quite crap at diagnosing it.

Either way you might need

mumwon · 23/05/2020 21:48

111 for goodness sake

clevername · 23/05/2020 21:49

I used to get these a lot. They're horrible and very, very painful - I really feel for you. Whenever I had a very bad one none of these at home remedies would work... I had to face going to the doctor, showing them my embarrassing fanny boil and then taking the antibiotics that would sort it out.

You might get away with a telephone consultation and a prescription, though (bonus)... But you need antibiotics.

I’ve had a couple of cysts turn into an abscess before and they’re evil and required an op under general anaesthetic. Antibiotics can help If you get to it in time, I’d call 111 and get referred to an out of hours service if you can.

RaggieDolls · 23/05/2020 22:13

Could you try a hot water bottle on it?

Mistymonday · 23/05/2020 22:25

Epsom salt baths are amazing or go to the gp and get it lanced (could be a staph boil - they are painful like nothing else).

Confusedcorona · 23/05/2020 22:52

Oh my goodness stop with the salicylic acid. It's fantastic, but it sounds car sore and delicate. You need to let the skin heal.

Houseworkavoider · 23/05/2020 22:57

If it’s quite deep and painful I would honestly phone your gp.
I’ll bet they can prescribe antibiotics over the phone and you should feel better in no time.
No lancing please! I’ll happily lance spots and the like, but this sounds more serious.

kyles101 · 23/05/2020 22:58

Magnesium Sulphate to draw it out. Don't lance anything that deep. And watch it doesn't get too red or inflamed, ring 111 if you're at all concerned.

alltoomuchrightnow · 23/05/2020 23:03

GP won't see patients, don't know when mine will re open

I think I need antibiotics but will try and get magnesium sulphate first.
I have had these before (also from not shaving but I think just from knicker line chafing) but this one is very painful. Had a long walk today which made it much worse. Ones I had before just disappeared, kind of vanished under the skin. I've never squeezed them, they rarely come to a head.

Bercows..great name.. the Bercows are my neighbours (ish - quite near) It's too deep under skin to photograph, can't see much at all. Also it's on the erm... outer vulval area pretty much....

alltoomuchrightnow · 23/05/2020 23:04

Now I'm thinking, maybe it's not ingrown hair, as it is right on edge of vulva and I don't get hairs there..it must be from knicker chafe as I walk a lot daily?

MissSmiley · 23/05/2020 23:05

@Ukholidaysaregreat you'll be pleased to know I stuck a needle in mine this morning, ouch but it's gone down, wasn't deep though

GoBackToPartyCity · 23/05/2020 23:05

Are you sure it’s an ingrown hair and not a Bartholins cyst?

PegasusReturns · 23/05/2020 23:11

Keep putting a hot hot flannel on it. Then if you have a blister plaster put that on overnight. Tomorrow hot towel again for an hour in the morning.

alltoomuchrightnow · 23/05/2020 23:17

Isn't Bartholins in the vagina?? (am going to have to google that)
I'll try hot flannel as not done that yet, hot bath didn't do anything

OP posts:
alltoomuchrightnow · 23/05/2020 23:18

MissSmiley, ouch!!
Mine's too deep to do that to

HPandTheNeverEndingBedtime · 23/05/2020 23:21

If you get these regularly when walking you might want to invest in some seam free or boxer short style pants to prevent it in future.

TheCanyon · 23/05/2020 23:28

I've got a cracker of one too, must be 1 inch by 1cm. Had it a month or so ago and got it good with a needle but it's came back. Have just slathered it in magnesium sulphate, getting very impatient waiting for a head

KitchenConfidential · 23/05/2020 23:35

GP won't see patients, don't know when mine will re open

Surely they’re doing telephone appointments though? They can at least give you some better medical advice (and possibly an antibiotic prescription if required) than a load of randoms on the net ;)
