Worst ingrown hair cyst I've ever had

alltoomuchrightnow · 21/05/2020 23:38

Pubic one, from shaving. This happens whenever I remove hair from here so I don't do it much, but this time I used rubbing alcohol, and salicyclic acid (since shaving), yet I've ended up with the worst ingrown hair cyst ever.
It hurts to walk, it hurts to sit, and it's very deep under the skin. It's where knickerline rubs, and jeans chafe, I'm having to wear dresses and no knickers, unless I put on knickers to go for a walk, but the pain got too much today and I came back.
Obviously am not going to shave again, and still applying the salicyclic, but the pain is getting worse. Whenever I've had them in past they've been uncomfortable but not painful like this!
In the past they've just gone down on their own... kind of disappeared.
I think this one is going to need a flag on it as will call itself a new country :(
Any ideas on what I can do to speed up healing? Very limited to what I can get from shops obviously, and don't really want to waddle out knickerless!

Our GP surgery is phone screening, only calling in if absolutely necessary. There must be some GP service, call them.

Flowersmakemyday · 23/05/2020 23:54

Out of Hours doctors are still seeing patients, give 111 a call and arrange to speak to someone.

HP, I'm going to wear some of DP's boxer styles. Last year I wore them, I posted on Mumsnet as had severe burn and weeping skin from using Nair Sensitive hair removal cream. It was anything but sensitive!
Sorry, TheCanyon, what a pain... is yours down there too?

You need to have a warm bath with Epsom salts to help with the swelling.

Does it have a head on it?

CorianderLord · 24/05/2020 11:17

I usually sterilise some needle nose tweezers and go digging. Give it a good wash after your dragged the hair out and keep it clean

alltoomuchrightnow · 24/05/2020 14:09

There's no head. It's very deep and at least 1cm diameter :(
I'm starting to think it's not ingrown hair, I don't get hairs on that part, it's just coincidence it's after I shaved.
Also..I've been getting little ones under my boobs where bra rubs..so it's got to be a chafing thing?
Also I must be run down... 6 months ago I had a mole removed from my jawline, which always got inbedded hairs and would fill with pus. My skin heals very fast and quickly which is why I get bad keloids, I think this is part of the problem...I've had to see a chiropodist for it too as I'll remove an ingrown toenail and the skin grows over thick and fast.. so I was having to see someone re the skin rather than the toenail, I kept getting infected from having to cut through the skin to reach the nail underneath...anyway the mole healed and left me with a raised scar (so it still looks like I have a mole, only smaller). And, I still have to pluck embedded hairs from this scar like I did when it was a full mole. But until now it's not got infected and pus filled..until the last few days a hair got truly embedded and the mole scar filled with pus...
But re my groin one, I could not get to it with tweezers..it's way too deep... I'd have to cut my skin right open..there's no head.. and I really now think there's no hair ..

Please try and see your GP, I had one of these turn into a raging, spreading, skin infection.

alltoomuchrightnow · 24/05/2020 14:10

Also I can't see down there! What do I do, sit legs akimbo with a propped up mirror!?

alltoomuchrightnow · 24/05/2020 14:11

Natural, they are not seeing anyone but I'll ring when they are open

How do you know when it's not cyst but is abcess?? But I'm assuming if was abcess the pain would be unbearable and I'd not be able to walk at all...

I’m wondering if it could be hidradenitis suppurative.

Especially as you mentioned it being around areas where you sweat. Worth a google.

berrynice16 · 24/05/2020 14:14

I had the exact same issue a few weeks ago it was the most unpleasant experience ever (and being pregnant does not help) I actually discovered accidentally that pile cream really worked - applied it religiously and it had completely disappeared within 2 days and was less painful after the first day! One positive discovery to come out of lockdown lol

hotdog44 · 24/05/2020 14:21

I had an abscess and the pain was really quite bad ! Needed antibiotics and eventually it burst was recommended hot baths to draw out the pus ! Please just ring the doctors and I’m sure they will give you antibiotics , anything like that in that area causes a lot of pain

alltoomuchrightnow · 24/05/2020 14:55

I'll google that, Yah.I'm not really a sweaty person (always cold) but of course these are warmer places that can chafe...
Berry, i'll add pile cream to my shopping list! Thanks for the tip
Going to ring docs when open too.
Just had a bit of a look, hard with small handbag mirror but had a feel and it's def about 1.5 cm now ...

Yah, you could be right. I have zero metabolism and need to lose weight. I have thyroid disease, my levels were awful before went into lockdown, nothing they could do but up my meds, I can't be re tested for obvious reasons until they start seeing people again. I've been pretty much starving myself so things wouldn't get worse weight wise. This has probably made me rundown too. I'm waiting to see an endocrinologist

Coldemort · 24/05/2020 15:02

I was going to say HS too. It's a condition I have and the most common affected areas are groin/breasts/armpits.

alltoomuchrightnow · 24/05/2020 15:07

ah! Yes I've had it in armpits too. And I'm not a hairy person due to the thyroid so I think it's a chafe/warm place thing.
I mean I don't have hair under my boobs and get them there frequently! They just kind of disappear alone if I use rubbing alcohol or salycyclic on them

I stopped getting these when I switched from soap to femfresh - might be worth a try for future prevention (obvs doesn’t help now).

cloudsinspring · 24/05/2020 15:33

Is your gp not at least offering telephone, video or online consultations?

My ds needed antibiotics for a bad cat scratch the other day and I "spoke" to the gp via an online form.

GPS presumably haven't just given up and gone home just because there's a pandemic, patients still need medical treatment.

Carouselfish · 24/05/2020 15:57

After shaving or waxing bikini line use solid stick deodorant on area for a few days. Always stops me getting those blighters.

alltoomuchrightnow · 24/05/2020 20:36

I don't wax, the hairs never get long enough to, I should have left this well alone

alltoomuchrightnow · 24/05/2020 20:51

It's so hard to see in a tiny mirror in bad light but, seems to be almost a little pinprick hole forming? Does that mean could start to be coming to a head? I did sleep with ground up aspirin on it last night, so....

OP posts:
Paperchainpopp · 24/05/2020 20:53

Maybe don’t shave in future. Try veet or something like that instead.

LadyRivers1 · 24/05/2020 20:58

Please seek medical help! I've just been discharged from hospital with something that sounds very similar in the same area, got antibiotics initially but it didn't budge. I ended up very ill, unable to eat or keep anything down, and with a fever but felt cold and kept shaking. Saw my GP and was admitted to hospital the same day for IV antibiotics, it still wouldnt budge after two days of those so I got it lanced under spinal anaesthetic. Don't muck about with it, can make you really I'll x

NaturalCleaningParticles · 24/05/2020 21:16

@LadyRivers1 sounds similar to my experience. It was pretty scary and I was told could have lead to sepsis if I'd waited much longer to see a GP (couldn't get an appointment!)
