Worst ingrown hair cyst I've ever had

alltoomuchrightnow · 21/05/2020 23:38

Pubic one, from shaving. This happens whenever I remove hair from here so I don't do it much, but this time I used rubbing alcohol, and salicyclic acid (since shaving), yet I've ended up with the worst ingrown hair cyst ever.
It hurts to walk, it hurts to sit, and it's very deep under the skin. It's where knickerline rubs, and jeans chafe, I'm having to wear dresses and no knickers, unless I put on knickers to go for a walk, but the pain got too much today and I came back.
Obviously am not going to shave again, and still applying the salicyclic, but the pain is getting worse. Whenever I've had them in past they've been uncomfortable but not painful like this!
In the past they've just gone down on their own... kind of disappeared.
I think this one is going to need a flag on it as will call itself a new country :(
Any ideas on what I can do to speed up healing? Very limited to what I can get from shops obviously, and don't really want to waddle out knickerless!

@NaturalCleaningParticles it is very scary! I often get cysts there but they go away themselves or a simple course of antibiotics sorts them out. Never again will I under estimate them!

alltoomuchrightnow · 24/05/2020 22:31

LadyRivers, that sounds horrific!!!! You poor thing. Got me scared now!

Paperchainpopp, I"m an idiot.
I'm not a hairy person as my thyroid condition inhibits hair growth, I just did it for me to feel smooth as wanted to feel nice with a short dress. Certainly wasn't for DP as we have a celibate relationship (that's a whole other story, but have posted on that before)
Last year I posted on here because of weeping broken skin from using Nair, that's why I'd never use creams again. That lasted about two weeks and was hell as my work trousers are very rigid and chafe.Dreading putting them back on next Monday.
I might as well just stay hairy, considering I'm not really hairy

You need to speak to your go and get antibiotics.

My friend had this and was very unwell.

Good luck

Paperchainpopp · 24/05/2020 22:51

No honestly I’ve had them before. It’s awful. If you don’t need to shave I wouldn’t bother. I have had to squeeze as they are really painful. I’ve had it to the point where I couldn’t go for a walk. Maybe ring a pharmacist to see what they advise. Hope you manage to sort it.

LadyRivers1 · 24/05/2020 22:52

@alltoomuchrightnow genuinely didn't want to scare you, sorry! But please, go and get checked, and dont take no for an answer, even if you have to call 111. Keep us updated and let us know how you get on!

Wauden · 24/05/2020 23:02

Maybe just leave the hairs in area alone from now on.

RB68 · 24/05/2020 23:25

Honestly phone GP and explain they should be able to give you antibiotics - its an infection and needs this before it develops into something else and you need to go to hospital to get it dealt with - in the mean time warm hotwater bottles or hot flannels to relieve pain

BronzeSilverGold13 · 24/05/2020 23:39

@alltoomuchrightnow just a quick thing as I didn't see an update RE abscess research...I have no advice as such but just wanted to say my DM gets abscesses in her groin constantly and whilst they are painful she still manages to work on her feet all day so it is possible it's an abscess just keep that in mind. Hopefully not though as I've seen DM have some nasty ones, I just hope it goes away soon for you

DakotaFanny · 24/05/2020 23:48

I had one of these last week- fecking agony so you have my sympathies. I had a hot bath and applied some magnesium sulphate. Next morning, while having a look (mirror, undignified bending over) it popped. Instant relief! For such a lot of pain and such a massive lump, it disappeared within hours.

DakotaFanny · 24/05/2020 23:49

(Magnesium sulphate available on Amazon)

alltoomuchrightnow · 25/05/2020 01:33

Dakota..sorry , laughing at your name! Glad it disappeared!
going to try and find a pharmacy open tomorrow as need that stuff urgently! I can't imagine going back to work in my unforgiving stiff trousers if not!

I have HS, my groin is worst affected as in I get more there but they heal well. My left armpit is the bane of my life and I've had 4 surgeries and every time it needs stitching up. Had plastic surgery on it to create a skin flap over the last hole Hmm thanks body

My method for them is leave them alone. Hot baths, keep them clean, no knickers as much as possible and avoid hair removal. Trimming is ok, even down to stubble but shaving gives me flare ups. I wash areas that are prone to it with dettol soap. Most people say don't pop them, I do but only when they're ready! Hot compresses can give some relief but basically don't poke or prod and then you will see what it will do

A lot will go away without popping, some burst. My armpit got infected and boy did I know about that within 12hrs. Burning hot, it grew and grew and the redness spread from my elbow to my boob. Doctor "it's not infected" Confused
I went home and stuck a needle in it and Envy the smell was grim

Likethebattle · 25/05/2020 02:10

Do not put a needle in it. I did that, sterilised the needle and had a dig about. The next day a massive patch round the cyst had Swollen up and I was showing signs of sepsis. This was in the first week of lockdown. I called my GP bc and he prescribed a high dose anti-biotic. He said if that failed he would then see me for further treatment. Luckily they worked.

serenada · 25/05/2020 02:45

Can an ingrown hair really cause infection? I never knew that.

DaenerysD · 25/05/2020 03:10

I too have a 'thing' or two coming to a head down in the same area. They are so uncomfortable and really impact you more than I realised tbh...
Also have a thyroid issue with HRT thrown in following a hysterectomy end of last year. I'm 48. How old are you?

alltoomuchrightnow · 25/05/2020 17:24

I'm 49, Daenerys.
Could not get the mag sulphate today, drove around to 6 different pharmacies. Only one was open..Tescos...they don't do it.. and googling is pointless as no one seems to have update hours re covid or bank holiday.
Pain is better today down there
However.. I must be so run down Kept awake last night by my jawline! The mole scar on it has infected hair, I keep using hot pads and squeezing it, pus keeps coming out, but it keeps flaring up, last night it was throbbing and keeping me awake.
Because of my thyroid levels being so bad before lockdown I've been dieting so I think it's put me in semi malnutrition as I've never had three infected places all at once.
I got a load of fruit today as not really eaten any for two months and am craving it

SheilaKoi · 25/05/2020 18:00

I suffer in the same way whenever I try to trim down there and I treat it with Flucloxacillin.

QuitMoaning · 25/05/2020 19:07

For magnesium sulphate you need a big pharmacy. I got mine from a large Boots in London. Find a big Boots, like the size you get on out of town shopping areas.

alltoomuchrightnow · 25/05/2020 22:06

There's no big Boots :( The only big one is in Milton Keynes shopping mall and the mall is closed.
I can't believe I've now got pus in my jawline where the mole scar is, as well as this issue down below, so fed up.

OP posts:
Ontheboardwalk · 25/05/2020 22:11

Please phone your GP. How do you know they aren’t seeing people? Have you tried?

Mine is doing phone/video calls. If you’re symptom free they'll even do your B12 injection for you

Gingerkittykat · 26/05/2020 01:19

Having loads of infections could be a sign of diabetes so phone your GP, mine is now doing routine phone appointments.

I got magnesium sulphate from my small local pharmacy so not just the big ones that sell it.

alltoomuchrightnow · 26/05/2020 03:14

I was tested re diabetes several months ago and all fine, I am due more blood tests anyway due to thyroid. I would think all this is due to my thyroid levels being bad prior to lockdown and because of this I've been on a very strict diet through lockdown because I knew otherwise I'd just gain, gain, gain ( as couldn't get to see endocrinologist)... and I think it's this diet causing the issues so I'm going to have to introduce fruit and veg back now, I've been carb avoiding because of thyroid .

alltoomuchrightnow · 26/05/2020 03:15

Ontheboardwalk , yes, they are not seeing people, I go on their website and also get updates from them
