summer111 · 19/09/2007 17:17

Gosh that's shocking. you poor thing. Please God he's strong enough to pull through.

Tickle · 19/09/2007 21:35

Thinking of you.

Lio · 19/09/2007 21:37

Totally shocked to read about this, sending good vibes for him, poor man

3Ddonut · 19/09/2007 21:41

infection can get in anywhere, he's just very unlucky, hoping for good news, if he's off the ventilator, that's got to be good doesn't it???? Hoping for good news.

carol3 · 19/09/2007 23:55

quick update so tired, so much better fighting the infection and things on the up. His breathing still poor but maintaining his blood pressure now. so have everything crossed that he continues to fight.

carol3 - sorry to mention this....but you maybe need to think about taking the children in to see him. i knwo its awful when he is on a ventilator etc. but if anythinh happens and they havent had a chance to see him it may be worse

also there have different rules about children visiting intensive care

I knwo its not easy. you want to protect them.

we had to face this 2 years ago, when our oldest son was dying and we had to take his 4yo sister in to say good bye to him

slim22 · 20/09/2007 01:00

that awfull!
Hope he recovers quickly.

mymama · 20/09/2007 01:06

. Hope he gets better soon.

Tickle · 20/09/2007 08:03

Glad to hear he's fighting. Good luck

3Ddonut · 20/09/2007 09:52

Things are sounding more positive there, I take it they're gradually weaning him off drugs etc with a view to moving him to a ward?

BarbieGirl · 20/09/2007 16:06

Any news?

Poor bloke. My DH recovered really quick after his Vacectomy - It is rare for a patient to go through what your ex has.

Rhubarb · 20/09/2007 16:08

Better not show my dh this! I'm trying to persuade him to get it done. Surely this is really rare right?

fawkeoff · 20/09/2007 16:11

oh dear jesus i hope he's okay.

AramintaVanHamstring · 20/09/2007 16:16

Oh that sounds so frightening.

My dh had to go back to the Dr's today to have stitches removed as his vasectomy wound is infected and very sore.

Best of luck to him and to you.

3Ddonut · 20/09/2007 16:22

yes Rhubarb it's very rare, there's a risk of infection with any procedure however minor, it's rare that infection gets that serious in major surgery never mind minor ops like a vasectomy. In recent years, a lady died of sceptacemia from having blood taken. It's just bad luck.

carol3 · 20/09/2007 22:47

quick update, on a ward now and much improved, he is still very poorly but things much better infection under control. has a bad chest infection so still needing assistance with breathing but is fighting. Plastic surgoens have seen him today to discuss reconstruction and skin graphs ect.
He's very low tonight a realises how close to death he's been.

Only just seen this, glad there is improvment

KristinaM how terribly sad, so sorry

SofiaAmes · 20/09/2007 23:52

It always amazed me as an american how readily the british use vasectomy as a form of birth control. Much rarer here (probably because it's not free).

Anyway, my dh (english) had had one before I met him. Although he had no trouble when it was done, he has had residual pain from it for years afterwards and then had it reversed to make our two dc's and now has even more pain. I won't give the graphic details, but.... Doctors have more or less said that there is nothing they can do about it and it's just one of the side effects of vasectomy (and reversal).

Pan · 20/09/2007 23:54

Crumbs..so sorry this is happening. Never heard of it before. Or any other really nasty thing arising. Best wishes to you all, and keep us informed.

Upwind · 21/09/2007 00:11

So sorry to read this, thinking of you.

sparkler · 21/09/2007 12:17

Carol3 thanks for the update. He's been through so much bless him. Hope he recovers son and the treatment all goes as well has it should. I hope this doesn't put DHs/DPs off the operation though. This is obviously a very rare circumstance. Majority of these operations run smoothly I'm sure.

BarbieGirl · 21/09/2007 12:25

Glad to hear he is on the mend.

3Ddonut · 21/09/2007 12:48

Glad to hear he's improving. Good news!

carol3 · 26/09/2007 22:01
