Is this level of abdominal bloating normal (NOT pregnant)

PrincessandthePeach · 07/11/2019 08:52

My stomach has been bothering me for a while now and making me very self conscious. I feel like I look pregnant even though I definitely am not.
Is this normal??

I'd say no, not normal.

Teensruletheroost · 07/11/2019 08:55

No I’m sorry that’s not normal. I would definitely advise you go to the doctors and get it checked out.

firstimemamma · 07/11/2019 09:04

Go to GP

tothefareast80 · 07/11/2019 09:05

No not normal. Have had this twice and both times have needed ovarian cysts removed. Please go to the GP and get it checked as bloating is a sign of issues with ovaries (could also be nothing but please don't ignore).

PrincessandthePeach · 07/11/2019 14:14

Thanks all for your replies, thought that something definitely wasn't right. There's no way I should look 4-5months pregnant when I'm definitely not!!
I also experience stomach cramps, diarrhoea and a nervous stomach quite often. I'm thinking it could maybe be IBS or something?

I have IBS and while it does make me bloated at times it is not that obvious, although I am larger than you.

You really need to get it checked out at the GP as they will be able to define what part of you it is (i.e. reproductive system or digestive system) and what needs to be done if anything. Just in case it is anything ovary related you'd be best to go sooner rather than later.

fromcitytocountry · 07/11/2019 15:11

I suffer from coeliac disease and this is exactly what my stomach looks like everytime I eat too much or if I have the unfortunate experience of being glutened.

Worth getting a check up to make sure there's nothing serious going on.
Then have a look at FODMAP...it's basically elimination and reintroduction of foods to determine what is triggering your symptoms and swelling

Possiblynotever · 07/11/2019 15:13

I am coeliac and I have the same effect. Go to the doctor and take the blood test. It is an absolutely easy to cure illness but if undetected it can give major problems

FreckledLeopard · 07/11/2019 15:13

How old are you? Bloating is also a sign of ovarian cancer so scan/blood test might be advisable.

Cuddling57 · 07/11/2019 15:16

I'd say it's very individual. If your stomach is usually flat then yes it's a lot of bloating. But if you've started to eat a lot then no it's not!

PartridgeJoan · 07/11/2019 15:35

I have IBS and my stomach goes like this!

Is it always like that, or does it change? For me there were foods (white bread, dairy) that made me balloon.

Def see your GP

sableandI · 07/11/2019 16:40

My tummy would look like yours and since giving up white bread, pasta and rice I have noticed a massive change.

I eat wholemeal products now and that seems to have kept the bloating at bay.

Maybe give it ago and see what happens.

KnickerBockerAndrew · 07/11/2019 16:42

This is me when I eat bread.

Cuddling57 · 07/11/2019 16:46

This thread is making me think I need to give up some foods! I just thought this is what happens to me throughout the day and it's normal!

RancidOldHag · 07/11/2019 16:50

You need to see your GP, who will (I hope) send you for a gynae once over. These symptoms could be ovarian cysts, and are quite similar to those for fibroids (which can be massive).

Yes, it could also be gastro. IBS is often the diagnosis you are left with after other inflammatory causes have been ruled out.

purpleuino · 07/11/2019 19:40

Have you been pregnant bed

purpleuino · 07/11/2019 19:40

*before OP? (Pressed post too soon!)

I'm thinking it might be abdominal separation if so

thatwasMauijustmessingaround · 07/11/2019 19:49

My tummy looks like that if I eat anything beige and don't drink enough throughout the day. I get badly bloated. Has done since I was a teen. My mum said I had slow digestion as a kid too.

I've had scans for fertility reasons I'm the last year and all clear of cysts etc.

If I cut out carbs and drink loads of water, it's much flatter. I always assumed it was just dietary.

U2HasTheEdge · 07/11/2019 21:06

Mine gets like that, bigger sometimes.

Mine is put down to IBS, but from the other recent thread on bloating I am still not convinced that I am not a coeliac.

I can wake up with a normal stomach and bloat the second I eat.

If this is new for you then see a GP ASAP. As for ovarian cancer, it is constant bloating and it wouldn't come and go I believe.

BloodyCats · 07/11/2019 21:08

I get that bloated when I eat flour. Very windy too.

MollyHuaCha · 07/11/2019 22:33

Get it checked out by a Dr.

MrsEricBana · 07/11/2019 22:39

Yep GP visit it is.

PrincessandthePeach · 07/11/2019 22:41

Thanks all, I'm 20 and have never been pregnant. It's generally always looking like this maybe a bit less in the mornings but then I can feel very big and uncomfortable at night

OP posts:
Ellabella989 · 07/11/2019 22:44

I have IBS (had a million tests to rule everything else out) and my stomach bloats up like that (sometimes worse) and I can get a lot of cramping pain, very gassy, diarrhoea/constipation depending on time of the month and extreme fatigue.
Is your stomach permanently bloated or is it flatter in the morning and then swells up during the course of the day? If so that sounds very much like IBS or an IBD like crohns

PrincessandthePeach · 07/11/2019 23:21

Ella, it's a bit flatter in the mornings but not by much.
