Is this level of abdominal bloating normal (NOT pregnant)

My stomach has been bothering me for a while now and making me very self conscious. I feel like I look pregnant even though I definitely am not.
Is this normal??

Heck, see your gp. The last thread like this was twitter queen, who was recently killed by ovarian cancer

WalkiesPlease · 07/11/2019 23:34

I clicked on this because I'm one of TwitterQueen's daughters and her ovarian cancer thread started exactly like this. It definitely sounds like IBS but please, please go and get checked out ASAP! I'm sure you'll be fine but that is quite a lot of bloating. X

PrincessandthePeach · 08/11/2019 08:59

Thanks, everyone. Will definitely book an appointment with my GP and get checked out.

Yes do get yourself seen OP. Apart from anything else, waiting lists for consultant gastroenterologists’ appointments can be long, so in case you need one it’s better to get in the queue sooner rather than later.

I say this because I have a huge and painful abdomen which is getting more distended by the week, now at least twice the size of yours, and despite my own history of severe bowel disease (including emergency surgery for obstruction only 2 years ago) I have now been waiting TEN months for a gastroenterology appointment on the NHS. I kid you not.

Anyway enough about me. Hope all is well with you.

kissmelittleass · 09/11/2019 23:15

Lark.. ten months! I've been waiting a thirteen months! It's awful isn't it!!
Yes op see your GP ASAP

CardinalCat · 10/11/2019 00:17

I understand why people are alarmed and giving you stern advice, but at the age of 20 the chances are that the cause is something much less terrifying than OC- statistically it would be very unlikely. You should definitely see your GP as the bloating is unusual but try not to panic.

goose1964 · 11/11/2019 17:40

I know this sounds weird but I get a belly like this as a side effect of my meds. If it gets bad and uncomfortable I knead my belly (like a cat). I then get horrendous burps for a while but the swelling goes down.

Northernsoullover · 11/11/2019 17:42

I didn't realise Twitterqueen had passed away Sad I'm grateful for her raising awareness on OC. I followed her threads but I somehow missed this.

beanaseireann · 11/11/2019 17:53

@WalkiesPlease
Was TwitterQueen the lovely lady who posted about her swollen tummy a couple of years ago and sadly it turned out to be ovarian cancer ?

WalkiesPlease · 11/11/2019 21:58

hi @Northernsoullover @beanaseireann Mum started her third and final thread on the 25th July and passed away 4 weeks later. also OP please do not worry I get the same kind of bloating as you and I have IBS – it definitely won't be OC! X

May she rest in peace.

AmICrazyorWhat2 · 11/11/2019 23:40

No medical knowledge but I've also been getting a bloated stomach recently after eating certain foods and I suspect it's IBS. Going to the doctor's soon to get it checked out.

I think your stomach looks especially bloated because you're so slim otherwise...I have separated ab muscles from having massive babies so mine never looks perfect nowadays even when I'm in full pilates/swimming mode. Grin

MotherForkinShirtBalls · 11/11/2019 23:49

@WalkiesPlease I'm so sorry to hear your mum passed away. I had dipped in and out of her threads but missed the sad news. I hope she is resting in peace and those of you who loved her carry her memory well.

ghettihead · 11/11/2019 23:53

I went to the dr's when I was 19 looking like that. I had started getting breathless when eating, and my legs went numb if I lay on my stomach. were convinced I was pregnant and sent me for an ultrasound. It turned out to be a huge ovarian cyst the size of a rugby ball. It was not cancerous, but was removed along with one of my ovaries.

lovemenorca · 08/01/2020 11:05

Op - all ok?
