Just wondering if Mumsnet could have a charitable fund that we could use for Mumsnetters in need?

I've been reading about people wanting to do something for misdee, and then I saw onlyjoking's thread about her dh and the limited time he has.

I'm sure there are others who are also having a really bad time. So just wondered about having a general fund whereby we could nominate other Mumsnetters to benefit from?

Not sure how it would all happen though.

Very true NP, i felt awful not beinbg able to give anything in the xmas thingy.

NadineBaggott · 16/08/2007 17:09

wasn't there a bit of a hoo-ha over the Christmas present thingy? Imagine how much worse it could be if money was involved.

I think I'm with majority here (so far) sorry.

It's the same with charities, I give to NSPCC and Cancer Research and that's it, there are literally thousands of worthy causes but you can't give to them all - you'd be broke otherwise!

Even if 100 people think it's a good idea and only 10 of uis think no, it wouldn't work.

We'd all have to keep putting into this pot of cash and then divvinging out to people everytime any time anything awful happened, which let's face it is sadly far too often.

Some people would be offened, some people would want money and other MN would think them undeserving. Ohhhh God, it would end in more than just tears.

nutcracker · 16/08/2007 17:10

Yeah 3 years Cod, gone so bloody fast.

I think its a lovely idea but agree with other posters that logistically its difficult. I think that the support emotionally given by mnetters is brilliant and thats what people post for. Many mnetters are so kind and make offers individually and that seems IMHO to work well. Also there would be a danger of trolls posting to get money and all sorts of made up stories could appear diluting the real ones currently on MN.

ledodgy · 16/08/2007 17:12

Make sure you don't go overboard around the mouth area Cod or you'll end up speaking the way you type!

MarkingFental · 16/08/2007 17:12

Send me money.

You'll find me under a bridge.

you did have that tragic bent spaghetti, we could send you some cash for a straightening procedure?

nutcracker · 16/08/2007 17:16

We could donate money for your first ever pair of crocs if you like

MarkingFental · 16/08/2007 17:17

You can botox parties. A bit like an Ann Summers party but with fewer raised eyebrows.

MarkingFental · 16/08/2007 17:19

Really, you get mates round and have a drink.

A man arrives on a motorbike with a syringe and says, "Which of you lovelies is first?"

The drunkest woman gets shoved forwards.

An hour later no one can pull the following faces:

though there are a few accidental
