I have just seen this - am so sorry to hear the news.

madmumof5 · 11/08/2007 18:57

hi there
my dad turned down the radiotherpy he was a very stuborn man unfortunatly he passed away aged 48 after 18 months but he didnt have the treatment so this is why he passed away he was told they couldnt cure it and when they operated they couldnt get rid of it all as it was attactched to important bits......in the end it affected him bad and he didnt knwo who anyone was etc...

it was his choice but with the radiotherpy you can go on to live for many many years

keep ya chin up dont try and be too strong let steve know what you are feelin and tell him you are there and will suport him with whatever he decides..

also you should both sit down and write a list of things you both want to do this will make him more determined to fight it..

if you dont mind me askin how old is he

take care

onlyjoking9329 · 11/08/2007 19:01

Thats the difficulty they couldn't remove it all and are hoping to shrink the rest with radiotherapy but they know it will come back so its just a case of constant monitoring.

So very sorry to hear your news, Onlyjoking. You are such a strong person, but it must be terribly hard. Take one day at a time, and keep in touch with us all. Sending you lots of love, hugs and strength.

RTKangaMummy · 11/08/2007 19:57

So sorry OJ

madmumof5 · 11/08/2007 20:01

i would advise him to go ahead with the radiotherpy..
it may only shrink it but by doin that he will be able to do things and have a longer life

onlyjoking9329 · 11/08/2007 21:18

he is very stubborn and my fear is that he will refuse treatment or start the treatment and give it up if he has any side effects, at the moment he feels quite well, he is sleeping a lot and has pain from the op.

OJ - there is always hope. My dad has oesophageal cancer (same as my DH) and, when he was diagnosed, was given six months to live. That was five years ago. He's still having treatment but still defies the odds. We put his survival down to the fact that he refused to give up and always thinks positive.

onlyjoking9329 · 11/08/2007 22:55

thanks for the links and info folks
today i am more positive, i think yesterday was just a huge shock. i think we will feel better after wednesdays meeting

Thinking of you & your family, OJ, and keeping everything crossed

onlyjoking9329 · 11/08/2007 23:05

We had a really special day today, the kids were out for the day so we relaxed and sat in the garden, then whilst he had a sleep i just pottered around and i also put some new photos on the digital photo frame which he loved, then we had a take away and watched rubbish tv. he has slept quite a bit today but not feeling in too much pain.
he will be having his staples out on tuesday.

OJ- have been trying to find an article on line which appeared in our paper here yesterday, about a top cancer doctor here, who was diagnosed with an aggressive brain tumour recently and given a poor prognosis. He is doing really well, has had aggressive surgery and radiotherapy and has just had a completely clear scan.
He had glioblastoma multiforme but is adamant that you fight the statistics and seek every treatment that will be of benefit. It's an inspiring piece and if it getes put on to the website I will link to it. The doctors quoted who are top neurosurgeons, are adamant that the power of the mind to fight the disease is critical to the body's ability to fight .
So, what I'm trying to say is that I hope the doctors make it clear to Steve that there is hope and that together you can all fight his corner.
Thinking of you

Rach35 · 12/08/2007 09:18

Glad you had a lovely day yesterday, i hope you get many more. (And a great idea about photos!). My dad started doing all the things he loved and started eating tonnes of jelly and ice-cream just cos he could! There were some v funny moments! Above all - the fight is what counts and sometimes when Steve expresses anger that is fighting talk! My dad had his tumour removed and radiotherapy but he was 71 and probably not of the same strength as Steve and he was with us for 9mths. But I will always remember jelly and ice-cream!!

onlyjoking9329 · 12/08/2007 11:28

which paper was that in Robinpud?
Steve has been treated at the large teaching hospitl but they had sent have to another hospital for the oncology appt.
he is very positive in his general outlook but this has knocked him for six, his mum is going off on her holidays today so he is feeling a bit down about that.
