So sorry to hear this, OJ. Give me a shout if you want to talk. My DH is doing radiotherapy at the moment so if I can do anything to help, just ask.

I am so so sorry for you , Having been through something similar please get in touch with either Marie Curie or Macmillan. They are truly wonderful people and their hope in dark moments is inspirational

i think once we have seen the oncologist on wednesday we will have a better idea of things, steve may be able to move on from denial. i don't know much about radiotherapy/chemo cos we were hoping we wouldn't need to know.
could do with basic info that doesn't look scary, i daren't do a google search.

Have you tried the cancer research uk website.

Thinking of you all x

mummydoit · 11/08/2007 09:55

OJ, difficult to give you a basic overview of chemo and radiotherapy as it varies so much. Each patient will have his/her own regime. I guess what worries most people is the side-effects issue. From experience with my DH and my Dad, both found that the side-effects from chemo weren't nearly as bad as they feared. Basically hair loss, tiredness and some nausea (though most controlled with medication). Both had numb fingertips and Dad's nails were affected too. Dad had no side-effects with radiotherapy and, so far, neither has DH. Give me a shout when you know what your DH's treatment will be and I'll see if I can tell you more than.

mosschops30 · 11/08/2007 10:10

oj cancerbacup have some fabulous booklets on brain cancers and treatments. I have them here if you want me to post to you or you can contact your local Tenovous (who are fab btw) who will provide them free of charge.
You can access cancerbacup online, they give simple, precise information that is easy to understand and is very reliable (e.g no crappy rubbish).
I hope you managed to get some rest, please look after yourself too xx

brimfull · 11/08/2007 10:16

The cancer research uk website posted earlier has questions to ask your doctor - which may be useful for you on Wednesday.

This must be such a tough time for you -trying to be strong but it is so sad. I have heard about new pharmaceutical treatments (in the last 3years or so). not sure how much chemo is used in brain tumours cos I am not sure it can cross blood brain barrier - but radiotherapy defo. (DOn't quote me on that though). Sending you a big hug

onlyjoking9329 · 11/08/2007 18:37

we were told radiotherapy then chemo, dunno if they will overlap or continue on from each other

Rach35 · 11/08/2007 18:40

oh I'm not sure what happens now (I went through this 5ys ago with my dad - Grade 4 too). radiotherapy is v v precise (hence the head mold you mentioned early). Defo give Bacup a call (as suggested in some of the posts). Depends on what you like - I liked facts and information and science - some like cuddles, love and affection. It might help to find out what Steve prefers?
