For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information by following the link at the very bottom of the page

ahundredtimes · 10/08/2007 21:35

(Not why don't I get it obviously, but why do it?

FrannyandZooey · 10/08/2007 21:35

You don't get why people do it?

OP posts:
FrannyandZooey · 10/08/2007 21:36

Oh blimey, you DON'T get it.

Oh. Erm. Well. Where to start?

OP posts:
ahundredtimes · 10/08/2007 21:36

Yup. I mean I did a year, which I thought was pretty amazing but then. . .

ahundredtimes · 10/08/2007 21:37

Can you bear to tell me?

My SIL is a revelation to me. Is all slings and signing and bf at 2.

FrannyandZooey · 10/08/2007 21:38

Well, I can only speak for myself, but

ds loved it and it was very good for him, and he would have been terribly sad to stop, and I enjoyed it, and it has so many health benefits for both mother and child, which don't go away after a year, but continue, and it is designed for children, whereas cow's milk is designed for cows, and it's free, and you can eat tons of cake while you are doing it and not put on weight, and it's just FAB

but other than that I haven't a clue

LOL I think bf is generally considered 'extended' after 1 year

Franny it does make sense (about the gym) I think you need to be in the right frame of mind to do things as well as being physically capable.

FrannyandZooey · 10/08/2007 21:39

Did you know I bf ds till he was nearly 4? Don't bow again, you'll get faint.

OP posts:
FrannyandZooey · 10/08/2007 21:40

Well Tatties I think you are right, and I think the frame of mind I am in is "daunted by almost being about to go up a level and lift bigger weights". So I am pootling about on the lighter ones and saying "ooh no too tired to do it today".

OP posts:
Tatties · 10/08/2007 21:40

Everything Franny said, plus I would never get ds to sleep otherwise!

FrannyandZooey · 10/08/2007 21:41

I think she's scarpered Tatties

OP posts:
Tatties · 10/08/2007 21:42

or fainted

3andnomore · 10/08/2007 21:42

Avi, theoretically it is bf after one year..bf that is, and the child at the time...however...in our society.....well....any bf could really be classed as extendet, I suppose...depends where you live...and heh, no matter how you feed your child....you will always thik or hear comments are against whatever you chose....because motherhood has that selfejecting guilttrip button somwhere where we don't even guess it is

3andnomore · 10/08/2007 21:44

100...the reason why I would have loved to do it past those darn 13 month was...it is a brilliant and natural tool to sooth your child whilest giving all teh goodness it can give....sigh....

FrannyandZooey · 10/08/2007 21:44

look 100 \link{http://www.mumsnet.com/Talk?rn=84841&topicid=1375&threadid=369746&redir=84841\look here) this is right up your street

OP posts:
FrannyandZooey · 10/08/2007 21:45

bother

there is something about trying to do links for 100 that makes them not work

OP posts:
Boco · 10/08/2007 21:51

I just kind of found that i had to ask myself why stop? Why actually try really hard to persuade your child not to bf, if they love it, and it's comforting for them, and good for them, and relaxing, and easy - and you're magically thin despite all the hula hoops and tiffin. dd1 stopped at 14 months, which was fine - but dd2 didn't want to - which is also fine.

Tatties · 10/08/2007 21:53

But Franny why do you need to lift bigger weights? You've got a lot going on atm haven't you - you're maybe too tired to be pushing yourself at the gym?

3andnomore · 10/08/2007 21:55

actually pushing yourself at the gym can be enjoyable....obviously there is the mindset to consider...but doing heavier weights doesn't mean you do to heavy weights if you do it correctly for what you are doing....

Tatties · 10/08/2007 21:56

Oh yes Boco - there has never been a time when I feel I could have stopped feeding ds without there being serious distress on both sides.

FrannyandZooey · 10/08/2007 22:09

LOL Tatties I still haven't got over it

in fact ds said last night "if you had another baby there would be more milk and I could drink it"

erm I guess I just want to progress at the gym, I like the challenge of it and you can see your body shape changing (well in theory anyway, in practice cake has got in the way lately)
