he is on steriods, he is doing amazingly really he is walking about and very chatty.
having people in the house would upset the kids and to be honest i will cope, i will have to get his mum to come and sit so that i can still get out with the kids.
next week DS is at playscheme and the girls respite family are back from there holidays so we should be better off.
how is you DH wishingchair?

He's walking around on cloud 9 - is determined it isn't going to get him. It's difficult cos the prognosis is still 5-10 yrs so I think ... ok so if the worst happened DD1 could only be 10 and DD2 could be 6 ... not that great really. But thinking positive ... hopefully the chemo will make it even smaller, maybe surgery will be an option later, medical advances etc. He's just over the moon that he's turned a corner. But he's still got about 1cm of a pretty aggressive tumour left in his brain - so I'm a bit up and down with it all. He'll get scanned every 2-3 months and if they can't get rid of it but just manage to control it, that'd be good

onlyjoking9329 · 09/08/2007 12:57

it does mess with your head all this stuff,we have to wait for histology to give us the results but we know it will grow back just don't know how fast/what grade, Steve has been told regular scans needed. the first scan was january then he should have had one in april but due to backlog didn't get one til july, so i do hope scans will be better this time.

I've only just discovered this site, and since I did, I have logged in very often to see how you are all doing. I just want to say that I think you're all fantastic, juggling everything as you do, and sitting on an emotional rollercoaster at the same time, trying to keep everything as normal as possible for the kids.

If sending strength could cure, your DHs would be well with all the good-will surrounding you. I'm sending positive thoughts, and strength and hope to anyone affected by such grave illness - as well as a thank you for giving me a perspective on my own petty problems.

Lots of love xx

wishingchair · 09/08/2007 13:41

I think they'd be seriously negligent if they he didn't get scanned every 3 months now. Shocking he was 3 months late this time ... wonder how much it had grown in that time ...

onlyjoking9329 · 09/08/2007 17:15

weel they told us it was slow growing in january, how they could tell that without the second scan i do not know, they said it was low grade in january too, they say it is no longer low grade but we wont know for sure til next friday.
welcome Sara.

Wow, he must be doing really well to be coming home so soon. How is he on the steroids? They made my dh go a bit odd, aggressive and forgetful which was v worrying at the time as we thought the op had affected his personality. One nurse casually mentioned in passing that they can have this kind of effect. Lo and behold within 24hrs of stopping the meds he returned to his normal self. Just thought I'd mention it as I really wished someone had told us a bit earlier and saved us some worry.

onlyjoking9329 · 09/08/2007 18:20

he is on dexamethasone 4mg 3x a day.
he seems ok on them at the moment.

ProfYaffle · 09/08/2007 20:09

I can't remember what type dh was on (3 years ago now) but glad Steve is Ok on them.

onlyjoking9329 · 09/08/2007 23:07

He certainly seems ok on them.
the kids were pleased to see him and weren't too upset about the staples and black eye.

Just seen this - hope he feels better really soon.

onlyjoking9329 · 10/08/2007 00:29

he has done amazingly well, all the others on the ward have been in at least two weeks.
we have to phone hospital if he has a temp or sickness thou the meds make him sick anyway

OP posts:
TheDuchessOfNorksBride · 10/08/2007 01:00

He IS doing well!

My father had this op years ago - he demanded a cup of tea whilst still in the recovery room. The tumour site really affected his balance & co-ordination and he had to walk up the ward in a straight line before the consultant would let him home - he did it too, the concentration it took must have been huge because it took my mother & me blardy ages to steer him through the car park and into the car! AND he went out in his own car within a week of coming home. Mad old fool.

Glad you're getting help with the DCs. Best of luck for next weeks results xx

onlyjoking9329 · 10/08/2007 16:14

I'm sorry OJ, not the news you wanted to hear. Love to the family.

Has DH been booked in for a course of chemo? And can it be done locally? It can be a tiring enough treatment without having to travel long distances.

mymatemax · 10/08/2007 20:47

So sorry. thinking of you & your family xx

Spidermama · 10/08/2007 21:02

OJ I'm just catching up with this. So sorry about the results. Is he still at home? I don't suppose he's any more comfortable yet? What are the options?

I hope you're managing to get some sleep at eat well enough.

Thinking of you.

saggarmakersbottomknocker · 10/08/2007 21:05
