For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information by following the link at the very bottom of the page

There are a few different conversations going on at once aren't there?!

and Boco

MrsC I have also been nervy about driving at times (still can be - sometimes I think about it too much and wonder, "now how do I make this thing stop again...") But, I have found the more I drive the more confident I become. It's not always easy to take the first steps though is it?

FrannyandZooey · 26/07/2007 12:47

I can't drive at all. And don't expect I ever will.

I second Walberswick as being one of the nicest places in the world

Lullabyloo · 26/07/2007 13:19

another non driver

have had strawbs, blueberries, raspberries & ricotta with honey & almonds

& aduki bean burgers & rocket,gem,avocado,spring onion,beetroot,tomato,cucumber salad

FrannyandZooey · 26/07/2007 13:35

So

basically we are on the whole driving losers, who breastfeed our children for ludicrous lengths of time, and suffer from assorted mental illnesses, in between eating large amounts of fruit and vegetables.

Fab. I knew I fitted in somewhere

Lullabyloo · 26/07/2007 13:39

speak for yourself

3andnomore · 26/07/2007 13:46

lol...to many messages to catch up on, I think....but lol at Frannies last one...I am a driver though, however breastfed a fair bit and like to eat fruit and veg...so, I almost fit...oh, and if I can walk I will....

Anyways, haven't been to bad the last few days eating wise...been having between 8-10 portions f&v each day.

So far today, 3 peaches (and will eat the ohter 3 aswell, I thiink, before they go off) and 1 Banana

DollyPopsOut · 26/07/2007 13:53

Hello everyone

After joining you for F and V adventures last week, I have fallen off the wagon somewhat. Am not brilliantly well but am hoping a dose of raspberries and apples for lunch will have helped.

Can't really keeep up with everyone on the thread as MN time very limited at the moment - sympathy for all with the driving. I passed in 1987 (when very young ) but have not driven much since and need to start lessons again as am terrified of london traffic! Don't think I can risk the DDs in the car without at least 6 hours of dual control. So hard to find a decent instructor though, isn't it?

I don't know around Holkham but have seen pictures and it's terribly pretty. I think the SCilly isles win my vote for a fave place. Don't think i could camp anywhere though. Need my bed, bath and a few thick towels too much .

BF - fed DD1 til 18 months when got PG with DD2. Still feeding DD2 but she's only 4 months. I have 2 RL friends who have BF past 6 months but rest seem to give up much earlier. Both my GPs are big into feeding though - one fed to 2 1.2 and the other 3 1/2! It's great when they are so supportive of it!

Hope to be back with more good news on the veg front soon.

BocoBeak · 26/07/2007 13:53

Franny i found your post uplifting and comforting, until i got to the . It should have ended on a .

pinkspottywellies · 26/07/2007 14:06

Oh no! I drive! And I passed first time much to the ashtonishment of my instructor! Can I still be in your gang? I am also not known to suffer from mental illnesses but I am a bit crazy
Raisins, nectarine, cucumber, tomato and spring onion in sandwich, half an apricot. I've been to the market so have lots of fruit.

ahundredtimes · 26/07/2007 14:10

learning to drive is utterly utterly dire. I hated it, and god I did it for ages and ages. All my instructors hated me, what with the immature hysterical laughter and all.

Please get another instructor Boco. He's lame. There must be someone who can come and pick you up? Surely?

I didn't breastfeed for a long, long time (by which I take it you mean over a year?) AND I'm not sure I have mental vulnerabilities - actually am in denial, what with the weeping all over walberswick thing - also not eating huge amounts of veg at the moment. BUT I still sort of fit in, don't I?

Have had leek, pot and saffron soup today though. 'Why is it SO yellow?' asked ds2 with distaste.

BBBBasilisk · 26/07/2007 14:15

Pity al;l those who trip onto here looking for a healthy eating thread!

Okay fran I fit all your criteria apart from being able to drive and I fail to eat loads of vegetables.

I hated learning to drive and still dislike it a lot. I passed on my fourth try - I hardly ever drive now.

am poised for meet up in unpronounable place in norfolk. Bring the posh private school teacher and we can laugh at his lack of knowledge of the fluidity of language.

Hi everyone else on all the other onversations spinning around on this thread. (None of which are about vegatables apart from the odd 'oh I ate a peach' slung in at the end of a post about somethign compleeltly different.)

BocoBeak · 26/07/2007 14:21

BBB will definitely let you know when i have concrete camping plans and see if we can get together.

I'm going away tomorrow for i think about 6 days. I had a big pack of kiwi fruit that i suddenly realised must be eaten by tomorrow, and now i feel like i have no skin on the roof of my mouth. They weren't quite ripe.

Going to a wedding on saturday and finally get my night in a hotel with no children. - woofay! as dd2 says.

pinkspottywellies · 26/07/2007 14:26

Oh and still bf at nearly 9 months which is looooong compared to most people I know in rl but pitiful compared to some of you. No plans to stop any time soon though despite current biting when tired phase. I know they say not to yell when they bite but OW!

BBBee · 26/07/2007 15:19

time to ditch the Harry Potter name - no-one seems to know who I am.

lionheart · 26/07/2007 15:41

Tatties, I have the copy ready to send whenever the CAT comes through.

Am off the f & v for a while because I have got a bug thing.

Passed my test after five attempts--it's a difficult thing to do because it requires such a regimented approach.

Boco can you not get someone to take you out so that you clock up

some miles without an instructor and then top it up with proper lessons?

It's what I did eventually, with my sister in the passanger seat and her new baby strapped into the back.

Having responsibility for someone else's baby when the someone else is sitting right beside you helps to concentrate the mind wonderfully.

Filchymindedvixen · 26/07/2007 16:14

erm I don't drive either. I work in mental health, does that count?

FrannyandZooey · 26/07/2007 16:34

ooh dear have possibly blundered a bit with my last post

there are no criteria, everyone is welcome, I just noticed rather a lot of us had rather a lot in common. Which is one of the reasons this thread is so nice to be on IMO. However if we were ALL the same it would be dreadfully dreary and I am sure there are plenty of us who don't fit my description at all. Which is another reason the thread is so nice to be on

and sorry Boco, you are quite right, but you know my love for the emoticon just got the better of me there

BBBee · 26/07/2007 16:48
Hmm
FrannyandZooey · 26/07/2007 16:52
Smile
TooTicky · 26/07/2007 16:59

Lionheart. Hope you feel better soon. Is it karma for thinking unkind thoughts about the chickens? And how is the bunny?

I passed my driving test 1st time last summer. My instructor (apart from comparing to to a gerbil - small and nervous) was absolutely fabulous. Very patient. And good looking. So come to Wiltshire Boco! I drive out of necessity (rural, limited buses) but love walking as much as poss.
Oh, and I have bf for 2.5 years, 1.5 years, nearly 3 years and still going strong at 2 years.
Am probably slightly mad. Sprinkle neuroses to taste

Have had 1/2 apple, tomato, cucumber. Cooking ratatouille.

TooTicky · 26/07/2007 16:59

Ds1 is trying to make toast over a candle.

FrannyandZooey · 26/07/2007 17:55

Is it done yet?

I have never met a bunch of driving refuseniks like you lot before. Even the most of the ones who can drive seem to have come to it late in life. I am a rare bird around these parts so it is nice to feel normal on here.

FrannyandZooey · 26/07/2007 17:56

Ooh

Lullabyloo · 26/07/2007 18:27

Toot......it's in the post

ahundredtimes · 26/07/2007 18:29

Yes, I do drive now. Quite a lot and very badly. Our car is really bashed up, DH is useless too which is nice so we don't get cross when one of us drives the car into a wall or whatever.

Melon, apple, grapes.
