She may be a long time lurker, and just never have posted before though. But agree there should be both sides of the argument put.

I'm sure in the future there will be more balanced and alternative views out there.
Things always change/improve/ in other ways dealing with advice regarding babies etc.

it's so obviously a wind-up, not a lurker. thought the troll policy was to kill off threads by ignoring them. that's why i posted it, not because i don't want both sides of any discussion covered. anyone who's been on this site for any length of time knows about the interesting - and recent - threads on topics like this

Socci, I hope you've not been put off Mumsnet. There have been odd trolls recently on the health topics, stirring up issues. Vaccination is always a sensitive one

I think it's a good point about giving a balanced view about vaccinations. Either keep the current pro article and add an anti article or scrap the current one and have one balanced article?

ok socci, what if the woman next door to you decided to suit herself and not be vaccinated and infected your children with a condition which developed into a life-threatening one?

not my responsibility smacks of a small-minded attitude which really makes me cross. driving carefully is not just for the driver/passenger's benefit - it's for all of our good.

why not take a look at the other thread, it makes interesting reading. everyone is welcome on mumsnet, and if you are not a troll then welcome to you too.

Driving is not at all the same as vaccinating a child. It doesn't involve injecting something into a person without their consent for a start. (and FWIW, I'm pro-vaccination personally but pro-choice in a more general view)

Socci has made the choice not to vaccinate so is clearly prepared to live with the consequences of that just as pro-vaccinators live with the consequences of injecting their children.

Do you think vaccination should be compulsory then Bundle? Should parents be forced to have their children vaccinated? Tell that to the people with vaccine damaged children who have made the decision not to vaccinate subsequent children.

Now, deep breath, count to 10 and reeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeelax....

I don't think it should be compulsory, no. but a sod you (not my responsibility) attitude is different to a considered assessment of the risks involved - to their child and other people (which I know other people have thought long & hard about, me included). it's not the decision to not vaccinate that I object to, it's the attitude. i posted the other thread, because i think the experiences of others (especially those whose children are vaccine damaged) are far more interesting than someone who blurts out in their first post about propaganda. I suppose I'm just bored by that attitude and prefer reading posts by people like jimjams, who's always a good read, and makes me think.

if you don't believe in trying to protect the community, then there's nothing I can do to change your mind. it was part of my decision-making process, and my children are very important to me. have you read the other thread?

My children have been vaccinated. I did it for them, not for the community. The community did not come into my consideration when it came to vaccination.

Where it does come in is when I don't take my infectious children out and about when they are ill. I didn't take them out when they had chicken pox because to do so would put pregnant women and those with a compromised immune system at risk.

I also have not had my baby vaccinated yet.
I did go into my reasons on another thread that was sadly deleted thanks to trollish behaviour.
However I certainly do not have an attitude of irresponsibility, quite the opposite in fact.
One I have read books and have taken into account where I live, my lifestyle, my health and liklihood of travel etc. I know I am not satisfied with the situation and what vaccinations are dished out at the moment.
I do not go to mums and baby groups,I visit a homeopath periodically, and continue looking into the facts and immune building foods etc, to give my son. I have recently started posting on thios board as I used to frequent another site with a rather closed mind on this subject,but found here that the site is a bit more receptive to other views.
